On a compatible Galaxy device, Samsung Gallery’s Photo Assist can remove or move objects and generate edits without requiring a separate photo editor. Open a picture in Gallery, tap Edit, then choose Photo Assist or the Galaxy AI control. Availability and tools vary by model, software, language, and region.
What Samsung Photo Assist can do
Photo Assist is Samsung’s name for a group of AI editing tools in Gallery, not a universal fixer on every Samsung phone. Depending on the device and software, it can help with these tasks:
- Remove an object: Select an unwanted item with AI Eraser and generate a replacement for the area it occupied.
- Move or resize an object: Reposition or resize a selected object; Gallery generates content to fill the space left behind.
- Create or restyle an image: Use Create to describe changes or add an image element, or Style to generate a different look. Available controls vary.
These are generative edits: the phone may synthesize pixels for missing or changed areas. They should not be treated as faithful recovery of details that were never present in the original. Samsung says the accuracy and reliability of generated output is not guaranteed. Samsung’s support guide and its One UI 8 guide explain the tools and caveats.
How to use Photo Assist in Gallery
- Open Gallery and select the photo you want to edit.
- Tap the pencil-shaped Edit control.
- Tap the Photo Assist icon or Galaxy AI control. The label and placement can differ by software version.
- Choose the available tool, such as AI Eraser or Move, and select the object or area to change. For Create or Style, follow the on-screen prompts.
- Generate the edit, then compare it with the original and inspect the changed areas.
- Choose Save as copy to keep the original image intact.
Samsung’s Gallery walkthrough documents these steps, while its One UI 8 guide also describes selecting an object, generating the change, comparing versions, and saving a copy. Exact screens may differ.

Check whether your phone supports it
Samsung lists Gallery AI editing for select phones and tablets running Android 14 with One UI 6.1 or later. That does not mean every device meeting those software minimums has every tool. Samsung says availability varies by model, language, and region, and requires a Samsung account and internet connection. Its support page advises updating the device if a feature is missing; the One UI 9 information page also notes variation in AI availability. Check your own Gallery app and device support rather than assuming the feature is included because the phone is a Samsung.
On supported One UI 9 devices, Photo Assist can accept spoken as well as written descriptions of edits. Voice prompting is not guaranteed on every handset or in every language or region. Samsung’s One UI 9 page describes the capability and its availability qualifications.

Know what happens to an AI-edited copy
- Resolution: Samsung says Generative Edit produces a resized photo of up to 12 megapixels. The 12MP figure is a maximum, not a promise that every edited image will have that resolution. Samsung support
- Watermark: Samsung says AI-generated images display a Galaxy AI watermark. Samsung support
- Review: Generated fills or changes can alter image content. Check the saved copy before sharing it or relying on it as a factual record; Samsung does not guarantee the output’s accuracy or reliability. Samsung One UI 8 guide
If Photo Assist is missing
First, check for a device software update and reopen the selected photo in Gallery. Confirm that you are signed in to a Samsung account and have an internet connection. If the control still does not appear, your device, region, language, or software may not support that feature; Samsung does not establish universal availability for all Galaxy phones. Its support guidance points users to device compatibility information, so consult Samsung’s current support for your specific model.

Samsung also offers Galaxy Enhance-X as a separate Galaxy Store app, with additional adjustments such as brightening and sharpening. Samsung says it supports phones running Android 14 and One UI 6.0 or later. It is optional and is not needed for the built-in Photo Assist workflow. Samsung support
