To reimage a server for Easypanel, use your hosting provider’s rebuild or reinstall workflow to provision a fresh Ubuntu server, then run Easypanel’s installer as root. Before rebuilding, check the provider’s data-loss warning and preserve anything you may need: the provider, its controls, and what happens to attached storage vary.
What to check before reimaging
A rebuild replaces the server’s existing system image. The exact effects on disks, attached volumes, snapshots, and backups depend on your provider, so check its current reimage instructions and warning before confirming. Do not assume storage will be kept or erased.
- Identify the correct server and provider account, and confirm that the replacement image will be Ubuntu.
- Save or verify backups of any data you need. Confirm you can access your backup service, DNS, source code, and application secrets if the original server is unavailable.
- Check the replacement server’s memory and ensure ports 80 and 443 will be available for Easypanel.
Easypanel’s self-hosting guidance recommends keeping access to backups, DNS, source code, and secrets, and practicing redeployment from a known-good image or source revision. Easypanel’s self-hosting guide explains that recovery preparation.
Reimage the server and install Easypanel
- In your hosting provider’s control panel, select the server and follow its documented rebuild or reinstall workflow. Choose a fresh Ubuntu image. Button names and the consequences for data depend on the provider.
- After the rebuild, connect to the server with root access. Confirm it has at least 2 GB of RAM and that ports 80 and 443 are available.
- Run Easypanel’s documented installer command as root:
curl -sSL https://get.easypanel.io | sh - Follow the installer prompts and wait for setup to finish. Easypanel says the script installs Docker if needed, initializes Docker Swarm, and starts Easypanel.
- Verify that you can access the panel, then restore or redeploy your applications and check their data and domains.
These prerequisites and the command come from Easypanel’s Getting Started documentation. It also describes an alternative Docker-based setup using a setup container, documented mounts, and root or sudo privileges. For a provider-reimaged server, the script is the simpler documented starting point.

Choose capacity for the applications, not just installation
The 2 GB RAM figure is Easypanel’s installation minimum, not a workload-sizing recommendation. A server that can install the panel may still be too small for the applications you intend to run.
Estimate capacity around peak workload. Include application processes, databases, builds, persistent data, retained images, build cache, logs, temporary files, and room for recovery. Restoring data can need extra disk space while both the backup and restored copy exist. Easypanel’s VPS sizing guide discusses these factors.

Manual install or a provider-managed route?
You can manually reimage a VPS and install Easypanel, or look for a provider option that offers one-click installation, a preconfigured server, or managed hosting. Easypanel’s hosting directory lists providers and recommends comparing plans, regions, and support. Check current availability and terms directly with the provider.
When comparing routes, consider the server’s capacity and storage, the region you need, what support or management the provider supplies, and how backups and recovery work. A one-click setup may reduce manual installation work, but it does not remove the need to understand the provider’s data-retention and recovery policies.

After installation: restore and verify
Once the panel is available, redeploy applications from a known-good source or image and restore any required data. Verify that each application starts, its persistent data is present, and its domain resolves to the reimaged server. Keep the relevant secrets and DNS access available throughout recovery; the original machine may no longer be usable.
