EA Sports FC 27 is a worthwhile step forward for players who want more control on the pitch or are drawn to its new social mode, The Grounds—but launch reviews describe an evolution, not a reinvention. The key buying question is whether those changes match the way you play. If you’re on PS4 or Xbox One, note that The Grounds is unavailable on those consoles; EA lists it for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2.
This is a verdict based on EA’s published feature information and named launch reviews, not a claim of personal play history. Reviewers assessed different builds and platforms, and EA is issuing updates, so their observations describe their respective review versions.
What is the verdict on FC 27?
FC 27 has identifiable changes: more demanding manual defending, refinements to attacking play, adjustments to Career, a new FUT Gallery, and The Grounds, a social space built around small-sided football and Clubs. The changes give regular players reasons to look again, especially if they want greater control or a new way to play with friends.

But the launch reviews do not establish that FC 27 transforms the series. Game Informer found the gameplay more dependent on player input while criticizing unwanted player switching and inconsistent CPU teammates. The Independent saw promise in the gameplay and Career adjustments but found many modes familiar. TheSixthAxis called it a slight improvement rather than a major evolution. These are reviewers’ assessments, not a single agreed score or a guarantee of how the game feels after later updates.

EA announced FC 27’s worldwide launch for September 25, 2026. For a buyer, the most useful test is practical: choose the mode you care about, check that it is available on your platform, and decide whether its particular changes justify buying this year’s game.
Does your platform support the mode you want?
The Grounds is the clearest platform dividing line. EA says it is not available on PS4 or Xbox One. Its listed supported platforms are PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. EA also notes that feature availability can vary by platform, so confirm the live platform and edition details before purchasing.

EA lists the Standard and Ultimate editions for EA App, PS5 and PS4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, Steam, and Epic Games Store. A listing for an edition does not mean every feature is available on every platform. The US PlayStation Store, for example, lists FC 27 for PS4 and PS5, but that does not make The Grounds available on PS4.

What has changed on the pitch?
EA highlights dynamic corners, enhanced attacking movement and more manual defending. Those are publisher feature descriptions; the more useful question is how reviewers found the changes in play.
Defending and passing demand more input
Matthew Kato’s PS5 review for Game Informer says manual defending is more rewarding and that through balls require better aim. That can suit players who want their own decisions to matter more, but the review also flags unwanted player switching as a frustration. Kato’s review received a 7.25 score. Some changes have rough edges
Jake Brigstock’s early-access review for The Independent described a solid core game and promising gameplay tweaks, while warning that some changes had unintended effects. He reported around ten hours with a PS5 Pro early-access build; that version did not allow him to test every Grounds activity. The Grounds is a social football playground, not simply another name for the traditional full-match modes. EA describes small-sided matches, Kickabouts, connections with mentors and participation in Clubs. It is the most visibly new mode, and its platform restriction matters if you are choosing where to play.

Its appeal depends on what you want from it. If you mainly want informal small-sided play or a social route into Clubs, it may be the feature that makes FC 27 feel different. If you want a deep new single-player experience, The Grounds alone may not answer that need. Launch reviewers saw potential but also found limits: Game Informer judged its ambition limited, while TheSixthAxis criticized its atmosphere. Career adds transfer and development adjustments
EA describes a rebuilt Career transfer market with player values and active club bidding, alongside player-development changes. These additions are aimed at players who spend time managing a club as well as playing matches. Kato found Career’s changes incremental; Brigstock saw promise in its transfer adjustments. Neither review supports treating Career as a wholesale redesign.
Ultimate Team adds the Gallery
EA says themed sets in the FUT Gallery contribute to Gallery progression and rewards. That gives team-building and collection-focused players another progression feature to consider. However, the launch reviews describe Ultimate Team as largely familiar, and TheSixthAxis also criticized its arcade-like feel. The feature description comes from EA; the judgments about familiarity and feel belong to the reviewers.

Who should buy FC 27?
- Consider it if you want to try The Grounds or Clubs and play on a supported platform, or if more hands-on defending and passing appeal to you.
- Consider waiting or trying Lite first if you are unsure whether the gameplay changes suit you, or if you mainly want to sample selected content before committing to the full game.
- Set expectations carefully if you are buying mainly for Career or Ultimate Team: both have changes, but launch reviewers still found familiar elements.
- Check platform access first if The Grounds is essential to you; PS4 and Xbox One do not support it.
How big is the game’s licensed football offering?
