Choose standalone EA Play if you mainly want Electronic Arts games, timed trials, member rewards and the 10% EA digital-purchase discount on one platform. Choose PC Game Pass if you play on Windows and want those EA Play benefits alongside a much broader PC catalog. Choose Game Pass Ultimate if you use an Xbox console, need console multiplayer, want cloud gaming where supported, or play across Xbox and PC.
EA Play is a publisher-focused membership. Game Pass is a multi-publisher catalog subscription that bundles EA Play only in specific tiers. The right choice depends first on your platform, then on how much of your playtime is spent in EA games.
EA Play and Xbox Game Pass in one minute
EA Play and Xbox Game Pass overlap, but they are not interchangeable subscriptions. EA Play concentrates on Electronic Arts franchises and adds selected pre-release trials, member rewards and a 10% discount on eligible EA digital purchases. Xbox Game Pass provides a larger rotating catalog from multiple publishers; PC Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate also include EA Play under the conditions described below.

What standalone EA Play includes
A focused EA game library
EA Play gives members access to a library of EA games and add-ons. The selection is concentrated on EA franchises, so it can be excellent value for a fan of the publisher but narrow for someone who wants games from many publishers. Your membership selection applies to one platform, and platform rules determine where you can use it.
Trials of selected new releases
EA’s FAQ describes up to 10 hours of access to selected new games before launch. “Selected” matters: the benefit is not a guaranteed trial for every EA release, and the length and availability can vary by title, platform and territory.
Member rewards and the EA discount
EA Play includes member-only in-game rewards and a 10% discount on eligible EA digital purchases, including games, downloadable content and related digital content. The discount is most useful if you regularly buy EA expansions, points or new releases. It does not turn every EA purchase into a free entitlement, and it does not guarantee that a trial becomes permanent access.
What it does not provide by itself
- It is not a multi-publisher catalog comparable with Game Pass.
- It does not promise standalone cloud gaming.
- On Xbox, EA Help says online or multiplayer play also requires an Xbox Game Pass subscription.
- EA Play Pro is not part of the standard EA Play membership.
How Game Pass bundles EA Play
Game Pass Ultimate
EA Help states that Game Pass Ultimate includes EA Play for Xbox and PC. Ultimate members can use EA Play on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Windows through the EA app. Ultimate also combines the broader Game Pass catalog, online console multiplayer and cloud gaming where the service supports your device and region.
Microsoft’s U.S. Xbox page captured in 2026 describes Ultimate as including more than 500 games playable on console, PC and additional supported devices. That is a dated, approximate catalog-size claim, not a promise that the same 500-plus titles remain available every month.
PC Game Pass
PC Game Pass includes EA Play for Windows through the EA app. It is the efficient bundle for a Windows-only player who wants EA games plus the wider PC Game Pass catalog. Microsoft’s 2026 U.S. page describes PC Game Pass as including more than 300 PC games.
PC Game Pass does not grant console EA Play access. If you own only an Xbox console, buying PC Game Pass for EA access will not solve your console requirement.

Xbox Game Pass Core and Standard
EA Help says Xbox Game Pass Core and Xbox Game Pass Standard do not include EA Play. If EA access is the reason you are subscribing, do not assume that every Game Pass tier carries it; check the exact tier shown in your local storefront.
EA Play Pro
EA Play Pro is a separate membership obtained through the EA app. EA Help explicitly states that Pro is not included with Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass. If you are seeking a newer premium EA edition rather than the standard EA Play library and trials, compare the specific game’s Pro entitlement before subscribing.

Prices, catalog counts and what the numbers mean
Standalone EA Play price
Microsoft’s U.S. Xbox EA Play page captured in 2026 lists standalone EA Play at $5.99 per month. That is a U.S. figure from the captured page, not a worldwide price. Regional taxes, currency conversion, storefront rules and future price changes can produce a different amount where you live.
Game Pass prices
The same captured Xbox page rendered the prices for PC Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate as “$XX.XX/month,” so no reliable numeric price is stated here for those tiers. Check the current storefront in your country immediately before subscribing, and verify the recurring renewal amount rather than relying on an introductory offer.

The 300-plus PC-game and 500-plus Ultimate-game figures are the counts displayed on Microsoft’s 2026 page. Game Pass is a rotating service: a title can leave, return, or differ by region. A count is useful for scale, but the games you actually want matter more than the headline total.
Which subscription fits your situation?
You own an Xbox and want online multiplayer
Game Pass Ultimate is the straightforward choice when you want EA Play on the console plus online multiplayer and games from many publishers. It also gives you a PC entitlement and cloud access where supported, so it can cover a mixed Xbox-and-PC setup.
Standalone EA Play is not a substitute for the Xbox Game Pass subscription required for online or multiplayer play on Xbox. A lower standalone price can therefore become a false economy if multiplayer is essential.

You play exclusively on Windows
Choose PC Game Pass when your play extends beyond EA franchises. You receive EA Play for Windows and a much broader PC catalog in one subscription. Expect EA titles to launch through the EA app rather than solely through the Xbox app.

Standalone EA Play can still make sense for a narrowly EA-focused player who does not need the wider catalog. Compare the current local prices and the exact EA games you plan to play; do not pay for a larger catalog you will not use.
You mainly play EA Sports games
Standalone EA Play is attractive if your routine is built around a small number of EA Sports titles and you value the 10% discount, timed trials and recurring member rewards. Check each title’s Play List status and edition before subscribing, because access is not a permanent promise for every annual release.
PC Game Pass or Ultimate becomes better value when you also play non-EA games, need a second platform, or want the broader benefits of those tiers. The decision is about your total playtime, not simply the number of EA games listed in a catalog.
You want the newest premium EA edition
Do not infer that Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass includes every premium edition. EA Play Pro is separate. Look up the exact edition and entitlement for the title you want, then decide whether a Pro membership or a standard EA Play/Game Pass tier supplies the access you need.
You switch between console and PC
Ultimate is the only option in this comparison designed to span Xbox and Windows while also adding console multiplayer and supported cloud gaming. Standalone EA Play is tied to one selected platform, and PC Game Pass remains a Windows subscription even though it includes EA Play for PC.
How access works on Windows
EA games included through PC Game Pass or Ultimate do not necessarily run directly inside the Xbox app. EA Help requires the EA app for PC access, so plan for a linked EA account and a second launcher.

- Subscribe to PC Game Pass or Game Pass Ultimate using the account that owns the subscription.
- Install the EA app for Windows and sign in with an EA account.
- When prompted, link the EA account to the Microsoft account that holds Game Pass.
- Open the EA app and locate the included EA Play title or trial.
- Install and launch the game from the EA app. If the entitlement does not appear, close both apps, sign in again to the linked accounts and confirm that the subscription is active in the correct region.
The exact linking screens can change. The important requirement is that the EA app, Microsoft account and EA account resolve to the same eligible subscription; owning PC Game Pass on a different account will not automatically transfer the benefit.
Trials, Play List access and annual releases
EA Play’s trial benefit is capped at up to 10 hours for selected new games, according to EA’s FAQ. A trial is not the same as unlimited ownership. Time spent in menus or while the game is open can count toward the limit depending on the title’s implementation, so quit the game rather than leaving it running when you are finished.

Game Pass release terms can add another route to an EA title, but availability remains title-specific. Ultimate’s day-one language applies only to selected games and includes exclusions. Read the entitlement shown for the individual game instead of assuming that every EA launch arrives on day one.
Why the catalog and rewards keep changing
Game libraries and in-game rewards are live services. Availability can differ by platform and territory, and publishers can remove or replace titles. EA and Xbox both state that benefits and Play List availability can change.
A dated example shows how quickly the details move. In an Xbox Wire announcement by Juliet Niczewicz, Senior Director of Corporate Communications, dated February 17, 2026, EA Sports College Football 26 was announced for the Play List on February 19. The announcement said Game Pass Ultimate members could receive unlimited access and 10% off EA digital purchases, and it listed time-limited rewards for Apex Legends, EA Sports F1 25, EA Sports FC 26, Madden NFL 26, NHL 26 and Battlefield 6. Those rewards illustrate the type of benefit offered at that moment; they should not be read as a permanent list.

Assuming every Game Pass tier includes EA Play
It does not. EA Help excludes Core and Standard, while confirming inclusion for Ultimate and PC Game Pass under their respective platform limits. Verify the tier name before checkout.
Buying PC Game Pass for an Xbox console
PC Game Pass provides EA Play for Windows, not console EA access. Xbox-only players should evaluate Ultimate or another console-eligible option instead.

Expecting console multiplayer from standalone EA Play
EA Help says Xbox online or multiplayer play also requires an Xbox Game Pass subscription. Include that requirement in your cost calculation.
Expecting every game to launch through one app
PC EA access requires the EA app. Keep both the Xbox app and EA app updated, and make sure the accounts are linked correctly.
Treating a catalog count as a guarantee
“300-plus” and “500-plus” describe the scale shown on Microsoft’s 2026 page. They do not guarantee a specific title, edition or reward will remain available in your market.

These are recurring subscriptions. Before confirming, check the renewal date, local currency, taxes and cancellation terms displayed by your storefront. A promotional first month, if offered, does not establish the later recurring price.
A practical decision checklist
- Platform: Xbox, Windows PC, or both?
- Multiplayer: Do you need online console multiplayer?
- Catalog: Will you play games outside EA’s franchises?
- Access type: Is a timed trial enough, or do you need unlimited access to a specific title?
- Edition: Are you seeking a premium EA edition that may require EA Play Pro?
- Purchases: Will the 10% EA digital discount offset part of your regular spending?
- Cloud: Do you have a supported device and live in a region where Game Pass cloud gaming is available?
- Price: What is the current local recurring rate after any introductory period?
If the answers are “one platform, mostly EA, no need for console multiplayer,” start with standalone EA Play. If they are “Windows plus many genres,” choose PC Game Pass. If they include “Xbox multiplayer,” “console and PC,” or “cloud gaming,” Ultimate is usually the complete package.
Bottom line
EA Play is the focused subscription: best for an EA-heavy library, selected trials, rewards and the 10% digital discount on one platform. PC Game Pass is the efficient Windows bundle because it adds EA Play to a broad PC catalog. Game Pass Ultimate costs more than a publisher-only membership, but it is the most capable option for Xbox owners and mixed-platform players because it combines EA Play with console multiplayer, a larger catalog and supported cloud gaming. Confirm the current price, game entitlement and territory before you pay, especially for annual EA releases and premium editions.
