“Failed to Connect to EA Online” can mean an EA service outage, a platform problem, an account restriction, a game issue, or trouble with your home connection. Check service status first, then work through the relevant platform, account, and network checks. The message alone does not identify the cause.
Start with the EA game and platform status
Before changing settings at home, check EA’s server-status page for the game and platform you use. Status can change, so check it when the error occurs. Also check the platform’s own service status. If the relevant service is down or under maintenance, local router changes will not restore it; wait and follow official status updates.
Some older games no longer have online servers. If the game’s service is not listed or the title has reached end of online support, confirm its current support status before troubleshooting your home network.
Restart the game and check for updates
Close the game completely, then restart your PC or console and launch the game again. Check for a game update and install it if one is available. These are low-risk first checks, but instructions for a specific error code can differ by game.

Check platform access, online-play requirements, and cache
Make sure the platform itself can connect to its online services. Then check whether your game, platform, region, and online mode require an active subscription or other entitlement; requirements are not universal across all titles and modes. Follow your platform’s official instructions for checking service status, subscription access, and clearing or refreshing cache. Avoid applying instructions for a different console or platform.
Confirm that your EA Account can play online
Sign in to the EA Account linked to the game and check for notices about a suspension, ban, deactivation, or deletion. An account restriction can block online play even when the internet connection works. An account already in use can also interfere with access, so check where it is signed in before making account changes.

For Apex Legends specifically, EA says code 100 can occur when the time zone or date of birth on the EA Account and platform account do not match. Treat that as a title-specific check, not a general fix for other EA games. See EA’s Apex Legends error-code guidance.

Restart and inspect the router
Restart the router by turning it off, unplugging it, waiting about a minute, then reconnecting it. Check that the router has power and that the device has a usable signal; placement and signal quality can affect a Wi-Fi connection. EA also suggests checking the router and network settings in its general connection troubleshooting guide.

Compare Wi-Fi with a wired connection
If you are using Wi-Fi, try connecting the PC or console to the router with an Ethernet cable, if the device and router have compatible ports. EA Help says, “Hardwired connections can be much more reliable than wireless ones.” That is general advice, not a guarantee that a cable will fix an individual connection problem. This test can help distinguish a wireless issue from a service, account, or platform problem.
Leave advanced network changes until later
If DNS appears unreliable, changing DNS might help, but it is not a universal remedy. EA names Google DNS and OpenDNS as third-party options and notes that it does not operate them. Use reliable instructions for your specific device and router, or ask your internet provider for help. Avoid advanced router changes unless you understand how to reverse them.

Use the exact error message to choose the next step
Wording varies by game and platform. Messages such as “Unable to connect to the EA servers,” “You have lost your online connection,” or EA’s Apex label “Unable to connect [code:clock]” are not interchangeable diagnoses. Find the official support guidance for your specific game and match the full code, including punctuation, before following a fix.

For example, EA’s Apex guide associates code 429 with maintenance or downtime, and net/leaf errors with an EA server that is not answering. These examples apply to Apex Legends; they do not define errors in every EA title.

When to contact support
If the game and platform services are available, the game is updated, your account and online entitlement appear in order, and the connection checks do not help, contact EA support with the game title, platform, full error text or code, and when the issue started. For a platform-service or subscription problem, contact the platform’s support team. EA’s connection guide and the game-specific help page are the best starting points for choosing the right support route.
