Samsung identifies the E-11 code on its US and Canadian microwave support pages as an open gas sensor error. Try a power reset; if the code comes back, Samsung advises requesting service. The code description and troubleshooting can vary by market and model, so use your microwave’s exact model number when seeking a diagnosis or replacement part.
What does E-11 mean on a Samsung microwave?
Samsung’s US support page describes E-11 as an “open gas sensor error,” and Samsung Canada gives the same description. “Open” identifies the type of fault the appliance has detected; those general support pages do not establish that the sensor itself is definitely defective or explain a component-level diagnosis. Error codes and recommended actions may differ by market and model. Samsung Canada notes that its guide covers microwaves sold in Canada and that products purchased elsewhere may have different codes or solutions. Check the model number on your appliance before asking about service or parts.

What should you do when E-11 appears?
- Disconnect power. Unplug the microwave, or switch it off at the circuit breaker.
- Allow it to dry if moisture may have reached the electronics. This could happen after a spill or exposure to cooktop steam. If moisture is not a concern, wait 60 seconds before restoring power.
- Restore power and check the display. A reset may clear the displayed error, but it does not establish that the underlying fault has been repaired.
- Request service if E-11 returns. Samsung US says, “If the error code returns, visit the Support Center to request service.” Use Samsung Support to start.
Can you keep using the microwave with E-11 displayed?
Samsung’s general E-11 support guidance does not say whether continued operation is safe while the code is displayed. It therefore does not support an assurance that you can keep using the microwave. Follow the appliance’s model-specific manual and request service if the code persists.

Should you check the sensor or replace it yourself?
Samsung’s France guide groups E-11 with other gas sensor faults and mentions checking wires and possible sensor replacement. That is region-specific advice, not proof that the same procedure applies to every model, nor a user repair procedure for opening the microwave or testing the sensor. The US and Canadian general code pages do not specify a sensor part number. Do not assume a generic gas sensor will fit every Samsung microwave. A part should be considered only after diagnosis and confirmation against the exact model’s parts documentation; Samsung service is the recommended next step if a reset does not clear the code.
