Several lower-priced dryers offer useful alternatives to the Dyson Supersonic, but the available evidence does not establish four products as firsthand-tested equals. The clearest comparisons cover Shark SpeedStyle Pro versus the original Supersonic in the UK, Laifen Swift models’ published specifications, and a 2025 Australian review of Laifen SE 2 versus Dreame Glory Mix. The practical choice depends on the exact bundle, attachments, controls, regional price and availability—not on the word “dupe.”

What counts as a Dyson Supersonic alternative?

A similar look or a high motor-speed figure does not establish equivalent drying, styling or hair protection. Compare what you will actually use: the controls, included attachments, handling, price in your market and the quality of evidence behind performance claims. The comparisons below concern specific models and packages; they do not establish that any one dryer matches every Supersonic version or suits every hair type.

How does Shark SpeedStyle Pro compare with the original Dyson Supersonic?

Woman & Home compared Shark SpeedStyle Pro with the original Dyson Supersonic—not the Supersonic Nural or Supersonic r. Its UK comparison lists these specifications and RRPs:

Feature Shark SpeedStyle Pro Original Dyson Supersonic
UK RRP listed by Woman & Home £179.99 £329.99
Weight listed 660 g 680 g
Speed settings 3 3
Heat settings 3 4
Cord length 2.4 m 2.5 m
Warranty listed 2 years 2 years

These are source-reported figures and listed UK RRPs, not a live price check or independent laboratory results. Woman & Home describes the Shark as lightweight and lower-priced, and says its attachments are intelligent: the dryer adjusts heat and speed when an attachment is fitted. Those are the publication’s descriptions and review conclusions.

#1 Best Overall
Dyson Supersonic Origin Hair Dryer in Nickel and Copper
  • Protects hair from extreme heat damage, with fast drying and controlled styling to help increase smoothness by 75%, increase shine by up to 132%, and decrease frizz and flyaways by up to 61%¹
  • Fast drying. The small, powerful motor combined with Air Multiplier technology produces a high-pressure, high-velocity jet of controlled air for fast drying and precision styling.
  • Intelligent heat control. The Dyson Supersonic hair dryer measures air temperature over 40 times a second and regulates the heat. This prevents extreme heat damage, to help protect your hair's shine.
  • The magnetic Styling concentrator attachment adjusts quickly and easily. Heat Shield technology keeps the surfaces of the attachment cool, even during close up styling.
  • Acoustically tuned. The powerful motor is tuned to produce one inaudible frequency.

Check the Shark bundle, not just the model name

Woman & Home says Shark packages contain three to five attachments. Its Straight and Wavy bundle includes a concentrator, de-frizzing attachment and smooth brush; a five-attachment bundle adds a diffuser and round brush. The original Dyson package it describes includes five attachments, with a concentrator, smoothing nozzle, diffuser, wide-tooth comb, flyaway attachment and gentle air attachment listed. Confirm the exact regional package: a diffuser is particularly important if you intend to dry curls with one.

What differs between Laifen Swift and Swift Special?

Laifen’s US comparison lists both the Swift and Swift Special at 110,000 rpm, 49 mph wind speed and 1,400 W maximum power, and says both use thermostat algorithms operating 100 times per second. These are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent measurements or proof that either dryer performs like a Dyson.

Model Attachments listed by Laifen Published motor, wind-speed and power figures
Laifen Swift Smooth nozzle 110,000 rpm; 49 mph; 1,400 W maximum
Laifen Swift Special Smooth, diffuser and concentrator nozzles 110,000 rpm; 49 mph; 1,400 W maximum

The listed core figures are the same, while the included attachments differ. If you need a diffuser, Laifen’s comparison lists one with the Swift Special, not the Swift. Check the actual product listing for the region and package you plan to buy.

What did a 2025 review find about Laifen SE 2 and Dreame Glory Mix?

Tom’s Guide writer Lucy Scotting compared the Laifen SE 2 and Dreame Glory Mix in Australia. The article says the Laifen launched there in July 2025 at AU$299 and was then unavailable in the US and UK; it says the Dreame, launched in 2023 at AU$349, was available globally. These are details reported in that article, published 22 August 2025, not current prices or a guarantee of present-day availability. Both dryers were reported to include diffuser, smoothing and concentrator nozzles.

Scotting reported that the Dreame felt more powerful at a slower setting and was faster in some cases, while the Laifen was consistent for everyday drying and styling. Her conclusion was specific to her test: “While the Dreame was definitely speedier in some cases, the Laifen was consistent in my tests for everyday hair drying and styling.” That is one reviewer’s finding in one comparison, not a universal performance ranking.

How to choose among these alternatives

  • Start with the attachment you need. Check the exact bundle for a diffuser, concentrator or smoothing tool rather than assuming it comes with every version of a model.
  • Compare price in your market. The Shark and Dyson figures above are UK RRPs from a comparison page; the Laifen SE 2 and Dreame figures are Australian launch prices reported in 2025. They are not directly comparable current offers.
  • Treat specifications as clues, not verdicts. RPM, wind speed and wattage are manufacturer-published figures for the Laifen Swift models. They do not by themselves show drying time, comfort or results on your hair.
  • Check practical fit. The cited Shark comparison provides weight, cord length, settings and warranty figures for its specific UK comparison. For other models, check the relevant seller’s current regional listing for those details.
  • Verify before ordering. Confirm model name, attachment bundle, local availability, seller, warranty and final price; regional packages and offers can change.
