Verdict: The Dyson Pure Cool TP04 is a premium tower fan and air purifier for buyers who value live air-quality reporting, automatic adjustment, app and voice control, and wide oscillation in one appliance. Dyson’s own specifications are appealing, but there is no TP04-specific independent CADR, noise or comparative test data in the material available here. Treat the 99.97% capture figure as a Dyson claim, not as an independently verified result.
The practical buying question is price and purpose. It can make a room feel cooler by moving air, but it is not an air conditioner. Its most important recurring purchase is the 360-degree Glass HEPA and activated-carbon filter, genuine part 969048-05.
What the Dyson Pure Cool TP04 does
A purifier and fan in one tower
Dyson positions the TP04 as a HEPA air purifier that also circulates air. It senses pollutants and can respond automatically, while its fan function provides directional airflow. The machine is controlled with the supplied remote, the Dyson Link app and compatible voice services, according to Dyson’s TP04 model and support listing.

This combination suits someone who wants one appliance rather than a separate purifier and fan. It does not establish that the TP04 removes pollutants faster than another purifier, however; no independent TP04 performance benchmark is provided here.

Air-quality sensing and display
The owner documentation says the LCD reports room particles and gases in real time. The app can also report air-quality information, and automatic mode adjusts operation in response to the readings. These are manufacturer-described functions, not measurements independently validated for accuracy in this review. Dyson’s operating details are on the TP04 owners page.
Airflow, oscillation and modes
Dyson lists 10 speed settings and up to 350 degrees of oscillation for the TP04. Its features page describes the purpose this way: “New 350° oscillation allows you to circulate and mix air around the whole room.” The owner information also describes adjustable oscillation from 45 to 350 degrees, a night mode that dims the screen, and a sleep timer selectable from one to eight hours. A backward-airflow mode directs purified air away from the user. That lets the machine purify without producing a cooling breeze, which is useful at night or in cooler weather.

Which filter does the TP04 use?
The TP04 uses a cylindrical 360° Glass HEPA and activated-carbon combination filter. Dyson identifies genuine replacement part 969048-05 as compatible with the TP04, DP04 and HP04. Confirm the model printed on your machine and the part number for your region before ordering. The compatibility and filter description appear on Dyson’s TP04 parts and support listing.
The HEPA media is intended to capture fine particles, while activated carbon is included for gases and odors. Dyson’s refurbished listing states that its Glass HEPA filter captures 99.97% of microscopic allergens and pollutants down to 0.3 microns. That number is a Dyson manufacturer claim; the available material does not provide an independent TP04-specific test, test protocol or laboratory result to confirm it.

How often should you replace the TP04 filter?
Dyson says to replace the filter when the machine or app notifies you and also recommends a 12-month interval on its parts page. Twelve months is guidance, not a guarantee that every filter lasts exactly that long. Dust load, smoke, pets, operating hours and local air quality can change the actual service life.
- Use the machine’s filter-life notification as the primary trigger.
- Use the 12-month recommendation as a planning point if no notification appears.
- Do not assume washing or vacuuming restores a spent combination filter; follow Dyson’s instructions for the specific part.
- Verify that the replacement is 969048-05 and is listed for your TP04 variant and market.

- Identify the machine. Confirm that the appliance is a TP04 and record the region or voltage version before buying a part.
- Buy the correct filter. Look for genuine Dyson part 969048-05, described as the 360° Glass HEPA and activated-carbon combination filter. Dyson lists it for HP04, TP04 and DP04, but compatibility should still be checked against your unit.
- Switch off and unplug. Disconnect the purifier before opening the filter compartment or handling the old filter.
- Remove and fit the filter according to Dyson’s owner diagrams. The parts listing identifies the component, while the owners page provides the model-specific operating guidance. Keep the new filter seated exactly as shown and close every housing panel.
- Reset the filter-life indicator only as instructed by Dyson. Use the reset method shown for your TP04 rather than a button sequence from another Dyson model.
- Run a short check. Confirm that the alert has cleared, airflow is unobstructed and the display or app is reporting normally.
Keep the old filter sealed for disposal according to local waste rules. If the notification remains after a correctly fitted filter, repeat the seating check and consult Dyson support instead of forcing the housing.
Does the TP04 actually cool a room?
No appliance specification here indicates refrigeration or active temperature reduction. The TP04 is a fan, so its forward airflow can make people feel cooler through moving air, but it will not lower a room’s temperature in the way an air conditioner does. Use the backward-airflow setting when you want purification without a breeze directed at you.
The 350-degree oscillation is intended to distribute air around most of a room, while the 10 speed settings let you choose a gentler or stronger stream. Dyson does not provide a TP04 airflow measurement in the supplied information, so a precise room-size recommendation or cooling-performance figure would be unsupported.

Controls and everyday use
Remote control
The supplied remote provides direct control without opening the app. Dyson also lists the remote as a replacement part, which is useful if it is lost or damaged.

The app extends the physical controls with air-quality reporting and remote operation. It is most useful if you want to check conditions away from the machine, review the displayed particle and gas information, or schedule operation without reaching for the remote.
Voice services
Dyson says the TP04 can be controlled through voice services. Availability and supported commands can depend on the service, account and region, so check the current Dyson setup instructions before buying specifically for voice control.
Automatic and night operation
Automatic mode uses the machine’s sensed conditions to adjust operation, according to Dyson. Night mode dims the display for a darker room while the purifier continues to operate. The sleep timer can be set from one to eight hours.
What the evidence does—and does not—show
The TP04’s feature set is well specified by Dyson, but feature descriptions are not the same as independent performance measurements. The available material contains no TP04-specific laboratory CADR, no independently measured decibel readings at each speed, no verified room-size test and no head-to-head benchmark against competing purifiers.

That matters when interpreting the 99.97% figure. It appears on Dyson’s refurbished TP04 page as a manufacturer statement about capture of particles as small as 0.3 microns. It should not be presented as an independently reproduced test result, nor should it be converted into a guaranteed percentage of pollutants removed from a particular room.
Dyson also cites a 2017 Dyson Sleep Survey in which “Over 70% of people surveyed felt better rested from using the Dyson Air Purifier.” The cited feature page does not provide the sample size, survey method or independent corroboration. Treat it as Dyson’s own survey claim, not clinical evidence that the TP04 improves sleep.
Price and availability
At the time of the cited US product-page check, Dyson listed the TP04 at $569.99 and marked it out of stock. Both figures are a snapshot, not a guaranteed current price or inventory status. Check the US Dyson TP04 listing again at publication or before ordering, and verify whether the listing is new, refurbished or supplied through another authorized channel.
Because the filter is a recurring cost, compare the purchase price with the current genuine 969048-05 replacement price and availability. A low initial price is less attractive if the correct filter is difficult to source in your market.

Do not declare the TP04 a performance winner on airflow, noise or purification until comparable independent measurements exist for the other models under the same conditions.
Who should buy the TP04?
It makes sense when you value integrated controls
- You want a tower fan and purifier in one device.
- Live particle and gas displays are more useful to you than a basic fan-only control panel.
- You will use automatic mode, the Dyson Link app or voice control.
- Wide oscillation and a backward-airflow setting matter in different seasons.
- You accept premium pricing and the ongoing cost of a proprietary combination filter.
Look elsewhere when independent numbers are essential
- You need a verified CADR or room-size rating before purchase.
- You need independently measured noise figures for sleeping or recording.
- You want active cooling that lowers room temperature.
- The TP04 or its genuine filter is unavailable in your region.
- You prefer a purifier with lower-cost, widely stocked replacement media.
Common problems and practical checks
The filter alert will not clear
Confirm that the replacement is genuine part 969048-05, fully seated and intended for your TP04 region. Follow the reset procedure in the owner instructions; do not apply a reset sequence from a different model. If the alert remains, contact Dyson support.
The display is too bright at night
Enable night mode. Dyson describes this mode as dimming the screen while the machine operates.

Adjust among the 10 speed settings and change the oscillation angle. Remember that no independent TP04 airflow measurement is established, so perceived performance will depend on room layout, distance and temperature.
You want purification without a breeze
Select backward airflow. Dyson documents this mode as purifying without cooling the user.
The app does not show the expected information
Check that the TP04 is connected through the Dyson Link setup for your region and that the machine is online. The owner page is the authoritative source for current pairing and account steps.
Bottom line for a buyer
The TP04’s strongest case is convenience: one 41.5-inch tower combines fan airflow, a 360-degree Glass HEPA and carbon filter, live sensing, automatic operation, wide oscillation, a display, remote, app and voice controls. Its weaknesses are the premium and volatile purchase price, dependence on a specific replacement filter, and the lack of independent TP04 data in the available evidence. Buy it when those controls and modes justify the ownership cost; do not buy it expecting air-conditioning or a proven performance advantage that has not been independently measured.
