Verdict: The Dyson CameraJet is an unusually informative toothbrush, but it is not an automatic replacement for string floss or a separate water flosser. Its built-in camera can identify gaps and aim a rinse jet, yet the system is expensive, refill-dependent, messy until you learn its technique, and affected by an officially acknowledged early-batch water-seepage issue. Wait for confirmed replacement stock and a clearer reliability record unless the camera-guided experience is worth paying a premium for you.
What the Dyson CameraJet is
Dyson launched CameraJet globally on September 1, 2026. It combines a sonic electric toothbrush with a targeted liquid-flosser nozzle, a 100,000-pixel macro camera, machine-learning gap detection, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and the MyDyson app. The launch package includes the handle, charging dock, travel case, Dyson Toothpaste and Dyson Mouthrinse.
Dyson founder and chief engineer James Dyson described the problem it is designed to address this way: “Flossing is an awkward and time-consuming chore. Few of us do it even though we know we should.” CameraJet’s approach is to watch the spaces between teeth while you brush and direct a narrow rinse stream at detected gaps.

The low-foam recommendation is functional, not merely cosmetic: excess foam can obstruct the camera’s view and interfere with targeting.

How CameraJet cleans between teeth
Camera-guided brushing
The camera shows a live view in MyDyson while the machine-learning system looks for interdental gaps. Dyson says it processes 28 live images each second. In practice, you must keep moving the brush through your mouth so the camera sees each area; holding it still does not guarantee a useful scan.
A targeted rinse jet, not threaded floss
When the system identifies a gap, a conical mouthrinse jet can fire toward it. This is a directed rinse pulse rather than dental floss physically passing between contacts. Tight contacts, unusual tooth angles, braces and gum pockets may still require conventional floss, interdental brushes or professional advice. CameraJet therefore adds interdental coverage but does not prove that every gap has been mechanically cleaned.

What hands-on use was like
TechRadar used CameraJet for a week before launch. It found the camera and live MyDyson view distinctive, the brushing thorough, and the handle comfortable despite its bulk. The reviewer had to practice keeping the brush moving so the camera could identify gaps, and the jet did not always fire as expected at first.

The conical stream can splash a mirror if you do not keep your mouth closed. That makes the routine less tidy than ordinary brushing, especially while learning the correct angle and movement. TechRadar rated performance 4/5 and value 3.5/5, while also flagging premium refill costs.

Reliability and the water-seepage issue
On September 30, 2026, Dyson acknowledged a manufacturing problem in one production batch of jet tubes. Its statement said: “Unfortunately, one production batch of jet tubes had experienced a process issue, creating the potential for water seepage which affected the performance of a small number of products early on.” Dyson said it isolated affected products, causing a temporary out-of-stock position, and that it was in full production and shipping.
The US product page currently lists CameraJet as out of stock. Marie Claire reported that the device disappeared from retailer sites shortly after launch and quoted Dyson as saying no devices had shipped in the US and that only a small UK batch was affected. That geography detail is a reported company statement, not independently verified shipment data.

What is established is a limited early-batch process issue and potential seepage. No source establishes a population-wide failure rate, and there is not yet a long-term reliability record. Social-media anecdotes should not be treated as a measured defect percentage.
Ownership cost, supplies and availability
Dyson’s US list price is $499.99. The launch box includes initial toothpaste and mouthrinse, but regular use depends on compatible fluids and replacement RFID brush heads. Dyson’s recommendation to use its low-foaming, SLS-free formulations narrows the range of products you can safely substitute without risking excess foam or camera-targeting problems.

Because the product was temporarily unavailable, check the official US listing for current stock and confirm that replacement heads and fluids are available before buying. Do not assume a marketplace listing is authorized or that promotional bundles will continue.

CameraJet relies on Wi-Fi or Bluetooth and the MyDyson app for its live camera view and guidance. The app can make the cleaning process more understandable than a pressure sensor alone, but it also adds setup, account and connectivity steps. Review the app’s current permissions and privacy documentation before pairing a camera-equipped oral-care device, particularly if you prefer a toothbrush that works entirely offline.
Who should buy it?
It may suit you if:
- You want visual feedback about where you are brushing and are willing to practice the technique.
- You value a single device that combines sonic brushing with a directed rinse pulse.
- The premium price and recurring supplies are acceptable, and you can wait for verified post-issue stock.
Choose another routine if:
- You want a proven, low-mess routine with minimal setup.
- You need guaranteed mechanical interdental cleaning for tight contacts or orthodontic work.
- You do not want recurring proprietary fluids or app connectivity.
- You cannot tolerate uncertainty about an early production issue.
A quality electric toothbrush paired with string floss, interdental brushes or a separate water flosser remains a simpler way to cover the same basic tasks without relying on a camera-triggered jet.

If you already own one
- Inspect the jet-tube area for unexplained moisture, seepage or a change in spray behavior.
- Stop using the device if water reaches areas that should remain dry, or if performance changes suddenly.
- Record the serial number, purchase date and symptoms, then contact Dyson support for inspection or replacement instructions.
- Use only the recommended low-foaming, SLS-free formulations while troubleshooting.
- Keep your mouth closed around the jet and move the brush steadily so the camera can see each gap.
Bottom line
CameraJet is a clever first-generation oral-care system with a capability ordinary smart toothbrushes do not offer: a built-in macro camera tied to a targeted rinse jet. The week-long hands-on results suggest that it can feel thorough and informative, but the learning curve, splashing, proprietary refill needs and early water-seepage problem reduce its value. With no established long-term failure rate and stock still unsettled, waiting is the sensible choice for most buyers.
