Choose the Dygma Sonsei for a travel setup that favors one-piece placement and Bluetooth; choose the ZSA Voyager if you want to position two halves independently and use included tenting legs. Both are compact columnar keyboards with programmable layouts, but their physical designs solve different problems. This is a feature-based comparison, not a hands-on test or a claim about medical outcomes.

The table highlights why a simple “which is smaller or lighter?” verdict can miss the point. Sonsei’s published weight is for the keyboard, while ZSA’s 678 g figure covers a complete Voyager kit with accessories. The Voyager’s individual halves are lighter than the packed kit, but you would not travel with only one half. Sonsei’s product page and Dygma’s Q&A also differ slightly on keyboard weight. Treat those as separate maker figures rather than using them to claim a precise weight advantage.

How their travel designs differ

Sonsei: one board for changing surfaces

The Sonsei keeps its keys in a single unibody rather than asking you to place and connect two halves. That makes it the more direct option if you expect to move between a café table, a train seat, a shared workstation, or a laptop. Dygma presents the board for use on a desk, on a lap, or on top of a laptop keyboard. The compact footprint and included sleeve are relevant if you want to pack one keyboard rather than a kit of separate pieces.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Dygma says it chose not to make the Sonsei fully split partly because separate halves can be awkward on cramped surfaces such as airplane tray tables. That is the manufacturer’s design rationale, not a guarantee that the board will fit every tray or lap. Measure the space you expect to use, especially if you work in tight seating or need room for a mouse.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

The listed dimensions are 299 × 140 × 18.4 mm. Those measurements give you a concrete starting point for checking your usual work surface, laptop stand, or travel sleeve compartment. They do not account for the space you may want beside the board for a pointing device, nor do they mean the same footprint will feel comfortable in every seat. If you often work in a confined space, check the usable area rather than relying only on a product’s “travel” positioning.

Dygma’s product copy describes the intended experience as “Pull it out. Turn it on. Start typing.” That sums up the appeal of keeping the halves together and having Bluetooth available, but it is product language rather than independent testing. A Sonsei still requires a suitable surface, a layout that works for you, and charging when needed. Its travel advantage is fewer physical pieces to arrange—not a promise that every temporary workstation will be ideal.

Voyager: independent placement for a desk arrangement

With the Voyager, the left and right halves can sit apart from one another. That flexibility is useful if you want to arrange the keyboard around other equipment or choose the spacing and angle of each side independently. The tradeoff is that your travel setup includes more separate items to pack and connect. For a fair carry comparison, use the full packed-kit weight rather than comparing one Voyager half with the Sonsei keyboard.

ZSA gives each half’s dimensions as 14 cm wide, 14.5 cm deep, and 1.6 cm high with keycaps. Each half weighs 217 g with its feet attached. Those per-half specifications help you think about how the sides might fit around other desk equipment, but the halves still need to be used as a keyboard pair. ZSA’s complete packed-kit figure is 678 g and includes the keyboard, carrying case, three USB-C cables, a TRRS cable, four tenting legs, and a metal holder. When deciding what to carry, count the whole kit, not just the two halves.

The separate halves also mean there is more to set out at a temporary desk: place the two sides, connect them, and decide where the included legs fit into your setup. That is a practical tradeoff rather than a defect. A fixed one-piece board is simpler to position as a single object; two independent halves offer a wider range of placement choices. If you routinely work around a laptop, monitor, or other equipment, consider whether you value that flexibility enough to carry and arrange the additional pieces.

The two forms are not simply different ways to achieve the same placement. Sonsei’s connected body is the practical choice when keeping the halves together matters; Voyager’s separation is the defining advantage when independent placement matters more than a one-piece board.

A practical way to choose for travel

Start with the places where you actually expect to type. For a café or shared workstation, ask whether you normally have enough clear desk space to spread two halves and connect them, or whether you want to set down one board and begin. For a train or flight, consider how much usable surface you tend to have; Dygma specifically cites cramped tray tables as part of its rationale for a unibody. Neither maker’s dimensions guarantee a fit on a particular seat or table, so measure if that is a deciding constraint.

Next, compare what goes into your bag. Sonsei comes with a travel sleeve, and Dygma says the board plus sleeve is under 500 g in its Q&A. Voyager’s stated 678 g includes its case and listed accessories. These are useful complete-carry reference points, but the included items differ, so they are not perfectly identical packing configurations. Also decide whether you expect to use the Voyager’s tenting legs while traveling; they are part of its kit and part of the setup choice.

Connectivity: Bluetooth convenience or a wired setup

What the Sonsei’s wireless option supports

Dygma lists both USB and Bluetooth, with Bluetooth connections for up to five devices. A three-position switch selects off, Bluetooth, or wired operation, according to the company’s Sonsei Q&A. This combination makes it possible to use the keyboard with more than one paired device and to use a cable when that better suits the setup.

The listed battery capacity is 2000 mAh. Dygma estimates more than 40 days with the LEDs off and more than eight hours of continuous use at 100% brightness. These are manufacturer estimates, not independently measured battery-test results. Actual time between charges depends on use, and the published figures should not be treated as a promise for every lighting or connection pattern.

Those two runtime estimates describe different conditions, so avoid treating them as interchangeable forecasts. The more-than-40-days figure is explicitly for LEDs off; the more-than-eight-hours figure is for continuous use at maximum brightness. If lighting is important to you, the latter is the more relevant of the two published estimates, though it remains Dygma’s estimate. If you plan to travel without a cable, decide whether you are comfortable managing the battery and check its charge before leaving. USB operation is also listed, so a cable remains an option where a wired setup is preferable.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Five Bluetooth device connections may matter if you want one keyboard to serve multiple computers or other supported devices, but the source specifies the number of connections, not every switching detail or compatibility behavior. Check Dygma’s current documentation for the pairing and device-switching instructions that apply to your setup. Do not assume that connecting to five devices means you will never need to configure a device or change how you use the board.

What to expect from the Voyager connection

ZSA’s product materials describe the Voyager as wired. If wireless operation is a requirement, Sonsei is the supported choice between these two based on the available specifications; do not assume that the Voyager has a Bluetooth mode. If you prefer a wired keyboard and do not want to manage a battery, the Voyager avoids that requirement.

Wired use may also make your packing checklist more relevant: the Voyager kit includes three USB-C cables and a TRRS cable, according to ZSA’s weight FAQ. The listed accessories are part of the packed-kit weight. Before traveling, identify the connections your own computer and preferred arrangement require and consult ZSA’s current setup guidance. The specifications establish that it is wired and list the included cables; they do not establish that every cable will suit every possible device configuration.

Tenting and ergonomics: a real design difference, not a health claim

The Voyager includes four magnetic tenting legs, giving you an included way to raise the inner edges of the two halves. Sonsei has no built-in tenting or reverse-tilt legs. Dygma says it prioritized a thin, travel-friendly design and judged that adding legs and the wrist support it considered necessary would make the keyboard thicker and add parts. Its explanation is available in the Sonsei Q&A.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That creates a useful practical dividing line: choose Voyager if tenting is an important part of how you want to arrange your keyboard and you want the legs included. Choose Sonsei if you would rather keep a flat, one-piece board with fewer components. The manufacturers describe ergonomic design features, but those features do not establish that either keyboard prevents, treats, or cures pain. If comfort is the deciding factor, consider your own setup and, where appropriate, get advice from a qualified professional rather than treating a product feature as a medical outcome.

It is worth separating “tented” from “split.” Voyager offers both independently placeable halves and four included magnetic tenting legs; those are two distinct aspects of its setup. You could value one more than the other. Sonsei is unibody and does not provide built-in tenting or reverse-tilt legs. If your requirement is specifically to raise the halves, the documented included option is Voyager. If you simply want a split arrangement but do not intend to use tenting, compare the placement tradeoff separately.

Dygma’s explanation also points to a travel compromise: legs and wrist support would add thickness and parts, in the company’s view. This tells you why Sonsei has a flat design, not that the design is necessarily more comfortable or suitable for every person. The right question is what configuration you want on your normal work surface and whether you want to transport extra accessories to achieve it.

Layout, layers, and the learning curve

Both keyboards use columnar key arrangements, where keys are aligned in columns rather than staggered like those on many conventional keyboards. Both also rely on programmable layouts and layers, so the compact physical layout does not mean every key has to be permanently omitted: functions can be assigned to alternate layers. Whether that suits you depends on your willingness to learn where less frequently used keys live. The product materials do not establish how quickly an individual will adapt.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Before choosing either board, make a short list of the keys and actions you use most often: letters, numbers, punctuation, navigation, and any functions you expect to reach frequently. Then check whether you are willing to assign less frequently used actions to another layer and learn those positions. This is a decision step, not a guaranteed learning schedule; neither maker’s materials establish a typical adaptation time. The 56-key Sonsei specification and Voyager’s compact columnar form are reasons to examine the layouts closely if you are used to a conventional staggered keyboard.

Thumb keys are part of the Sonsei’s specification: Dygma lists eight. That is a concrete layout detail to consider when looking at how functions could be arranged, but the specification alone does not say which exact mapping will suit an individual. Similarly, ZSA supports layouts, layers, and macros saved to firmware, giving users configuration options without establishing a single required layout. Review the maker’s current layout resources before purchase if you depend on a particular key or workflow.

Sonsei configuration

Dygma lists 56 switches and eight thumb keys. The switches are Gateron KS-33 2.0 low-profile models, seated in matching hot-swap sockets. Dygma says its configurator is required to change the layout; those changes are stored in the Neuron for use with another computer. The product page lists several switch options and an optional purchase of replacement switches. For replacement parts, match the stated switch family rather than assuming any low-profile switch will fit.

That configuration flow has two practical implications. First, making layout changes requires Dygma’s configurator rather than assuming the keyboard will be reprogrammed with no setup at all. Second, Dygma says the changes are stored in the Neuron, so the layout can be used with another computer after it is configured. If you expect to work across machines, this distinction is useful: configure the board as needed, then check Dygma’s instructions for the setup process rather than expecting each host computer to hold a separate copy.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Hot-swap sockets allow switch replacement without treating all switch models as compatible. Dygma specifies Gateron KS-33 2.0 low-profile switches and matching sockets, and its page lists optional replacement switches. If a future replacement is part of your buying decision, verify the exact model and current availability with Dygma. The fact that a board is hot-swappable does not mean every switch family will fit or work in it.

Voyager configuration

ZSA describes the Voyager as a hot-swappable board with low-profile Kailh Choc switches. Its layout, layers, and macros are saved to the keyboard firmware. ZSA says basic typing does not require installing software, although changing firmware layouts may require setup depending on the operating system. Its software FAQ is the right place to check the current configuration guidance for your computer.

This makes it important to distinguish using the board from customizing it. ZSA says that basic typing does not require software installation, while changing firmware layouts may involve setup depending on the operating system. If you only want to type on the supplied configuration, that statement may be reassuring; if you plan to reassign layers or macros, check the current setup steps for your specific computer before purchase. The layout and macros are saved to the keyboard firmware, according to ZSA.

Although both keyboards support switch replacement, their listed switch families differ. Do not treat Gateron KS-33 2.0 and Kailh Choc switches as interchangeable. Before buying replacements for either board, verify the exact current variant and socket compatibility with its manufacturer. ZSA identifies its switches as low-profile Kailh Choc and hot-swappable; verify the exact current variant before ordering replacements.

Price, warranty, and buying terms

On 2026-10-13, Dygma’s product page showed the Sonsei at $279 and in stock. The same page listed a two-year warranty, 30-day returns, and free standard shipping, while noting that import fees and taxes may apply outside the EU and US. These are time-sensitive product-page terms, not guaranteed future offers; confirm them directly before ordering.

A comparable current Voyager price, shipping charge, warranty, and return window are not established here. Check ZSA’s Voyager product page for the terms that apply when you buy. Without matching purchase information, a precise value-for-money verdict between the two would be misleading.

For the Sonsei, separate the product’s listed purchase terms from the extra charges that may apply to your location. Dygma’s page notes possible import fees and taxes outside the EU and US; those costs depend on the purchase destination and cannot be folded into a universal total here. Likewise, the shown $279 price and in-stock status are a dated snapshot from 2026-10-13, not a standing guarantee. Confirm the live price, stock, shipping, warranty, and return terms at checkout.

For the Voyager, compare the current total at the point of purchase rather than trying to infer it from the Sonsei’s listed price. A comparable Voyager price and shipping or returns information is not available here. The included tenting legs and carry items are documented features, but they do not determine whether the current asking price is good value for a particular buyer. That depends on the live price and which capabilities you would use.

Which one should you choose?

Choose the Sonsei if your priority is a simple portable setup

  • You want a single keyboard body that stays together when you move between work surfaces.
  • Bluetooth or the ability to connect to multiple devices matters to you.
  • You want the option of using it on a lap or over a laptop keyboard.
  • You prefer an included travel sleeve and do not need built-in tenting.

Sonsei is also the easier comparison to make if your primary need is wireless operation: Dygma documents USB and Bluetooth, up to five Bluetooth connections, and a three-position off/Bluetooth/wired switch. If you select it for travel, remember that Bluetooth makes it wireless but does not eliminate the listed 2000 mAh battery or the need to consider charging. The battery life figures are estimates under specific lighting conditions.

Choose the Voyager if your priority is placement and tenting flexibility

  • You want to position the left and right halves independently.
  • You want magnetic tenting legs included rather than relying on a flat setup.
  • A wired connection suits your desk, and Bluetooth is not a requirement.
  • You are comfortable packing and arranging the separate pieces in its travel kit.

Voyager is the more directly documented choice when separate placement and tenting are priorities together. Its four magnetic legs are included, and the sides can be arranged independently. Bear in mind that it is wired in ZSA’s product materials and that the complete packed kit weighs 678 g with its case, cables, legs, and metal holder. If you expect frequent changes of location, decide whether those additional pieces are acceptable in exchange for the setup flexibility.

Check these details before you commit

  • Make sure the keyboard’s physical format suits the surfaces where you actually type: connected body for Sonsei, independent halves for Voyager.
  • Decide whether tenting is a requirement or whether a flat keyboard is acceptable.
  • Account for the full Voyager kit when judging what you will carry; do not compare only its per-half weight with a complete Sonsei.
  • Confirm the current switch variant and replacement compatibility if changing switches is part of your plan.
  • Review current price, stock, warranty, returns, shipping, and any applicable import charges on the seller’s page before checkout.

It can also help to write down your non-negotiables before browsing product pages. If Bluetooth is essential, the Sonsei has the documented feature; the Voyager is described as wired. If included tenting legs are essential, Voyager has them; Sonsei does not. If the halves must stay attached as you move between surfaces, Sonsei is the one-piece option. If you want to place the halves around other equipment, Voyager allows independent placement. These are direct feature distinctions, not broad claims about which keyboard is better for everyone.

Finally, check how you plan to configure the board. Dygma says its configurator is required for Sonsei layout changes and that changes are stored in the Neuron. ZSA says Voyager basic typing does not require installing software, while firmware layout changes may need setup depending on your operating system. For either model, confirm the current instructions and switch compatibility before relying on a particular workflow or replacement part.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does the Dygma Sonsei weigh?

Dygma’s product specifications list the keyboard at 393 g. Its product Q&A gives a separate keyboard figure of 399 g and says the keyboard with its travel sleeve is under 500 g. Because those maker sources differ, treat the numbers in their stated context rather than as one exact figure.

How much does the ZSA Voyager weigh?

ZSA says each Voyager half weighs 217 g with its feet attached. The complete packed kit weighs 678 g and includes the keyboard, case, three USB-C cables, a TRRS cable, four tenting legs, and a metal holder.

Does the Dygma Sonsei have tenting or reverse-tilt legs?

No built-in tenting or reverse-tilt legs are listed for Sonsei. Dygma says it prioritized a thin, travel-friendly board and judged that adding legs and wrist support would add thickness and parts. The Voyager includes four magnetic tenting legs.

Can I use the Dygma Sonsei wirelessly with multiple devices?

Dygma lists Bluetooth connections for up to five devices as well as USB use. Its Q&A describes a three-position switch for off, Bluetooth, or wired operation. Check Dygma’s current instructions for pairing and switching details.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does the ZSA Voyager need software to type?

ZSA says basic typing does not require installing software. Changing firmware layouts may require setup depending on the operating system, so check ZSA’s software FAQ for current configuration guidance.

Are Sonsei and Voyager replacement switches interchangeable?

Do not assume so. Dygma specifies Gateron KS-33 2.0 low-profile switches with matching hot-swap sockets; ZSA describes low-profile Kailh Choc switches and a hot-swappable design. Confirm the exact current switch variant and compatibility with the relevant manufacturer before ordering replacements.

Which keyboard is better for travel?

It depends on the travel setup. Sonsei keeps the keys in one body, supports Bluetooth, and includes a travel sleeve; Dygma presents it for desk, lap, and laptop use. Voyager separates into two independently placed halves and includes tenting legs, but its complete packed kit weighs 678 g and its connection is wired in ZSA’s product materials.

The Bottom Line

Sonsei is the more straightforward fit when you want one connected, Bluetooth-capable board for changing surfaces; Voyager is the better documented fit when independent half placement and included tenting legs matter more. Compare the full packed kit, connection type, layout and switch requirements, and current purchase terms before choosing. Neither set of ergonomic features establishes a medical benefit.
