Yes, Duskroot can use a controller on iPhone, but only menu navigation is explicitly confirmed. The Apple App Store listing says “a controller works in menus” and requires iOS 15.0 or later. It does not publish a model-by-model compatibility list or promise that every farming and mining action is mapped.
That means an Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, clip-on, or other Bluetooth/MFi gamepad should be treated as a candidate to test—not as an officially certified Duskroot controller. Pair it with iOS first, verify menu navigation, then test movement and actions in an actual save.
What Duskroot officially confirms
The title-specific evidence is limited to the wording in Duskroot’s Apple App Store listing. It describes the game as “a cosy farming game with a mine underneath it,” requires iOS 15.0 or later, and states that “a controller works in menus.”
That statement establishes menu input, such as moving through options or selecting a menu item. It does not establish that every gameplay control is available, that vibration works, or that a particular controller family has been tested by the developer. No public compatibility table names Xbox, PlayStation, Backbone, Razer Kishi, Switch Pro, 8BitDo, or another specific model.

Use the following distinction when deciding whether to buy or troubleshoot a pad:
- Confirmed: a controller can operate Duskroot’s menus on an iPhone running iOS 15.0 or later.
- Not confirmed: complete gameplay mapping, a specific button layout, rumble, analog-stick behavior, or support for any named model.
- Practical implication: your phone, the game, and the controller’s layout must all be compatible for the controls you need.
Which gamepads are worth testing?
Because the listing does not identify models, the safest description is Bluetooth/MFi mobile gamepad or mobile game controller. The families below are reasonable candidates only when they are recognized by your iPhone. Their inclusion is not a claim that Duskroot has certified them.

Confirm the operating-system requirement
Update the phone, if necessary, to iOS 15.0 or later. The listing’s requirement applies to the app itself; it does not certify that every old iPhone, controller firmware, or connector will behave identically.

Identify the connection method
- Bluetooth: the controller pairs through iOS Settings and normally needs its pairing mode enabled.
- Wired Lightning or USB-C: the controller connects directly to the phone’s port. Port type and case clearance determine whether the plug can seat fully.
- Telescopic mobile controller: the phone sits between two grips. Check the controller’s supported iPhone dimensions and remove a thick case if the phone cannot be inserted securely.
Prepare for a clean test
Charge a wireless controller, disconnect it from another device, and close games that may already be claiming the connection. If you are testing a wired pad, use a connector that fits firmly and avoid hubs or adapters until the basic connection works.
How to connect a controller to Duskroot on iPhone
- Open iOS Settings. Go to Settings → Bluetooth. Turn Bluetooth on for a wireless controller, or connect a compatible wired controller to the iPhone.
- Put the controller into pairing mode. Use the controller’s own pairing procedure. Wait for its name to appear under the Bluetooth device list, then tap it.
- Wait for iOS to show a connection. Do not launch Duskroot until the controller appears as connected. If it never appears, the problem is at the phone or controller layer rather than inside Duskroot.
- Launch Duskroot after the connection is active. Starting the game after iOS has recognized the pad gives the app the best opportunity to receive the input session.
- Test the menus first. Move through a title-screen or settings menu and select an item. This is the one controller behavior explicitly described by the listing.
- Test a real gameplay session. Check directional movement, camera or cursor movement if present, confirmation and cancellation, tool selection, interaction, and any mine-related actions. Do not assume that menu success means every action is assigned.
- Record the result by action. Note which buttons work, which are absent, and whether a stick behaves differently from a directional pad. This makes it easier to distinguish a missing mapping from a general connection failure.
If the controller works in menus but not in gameplay
This symptom is consistent with the limited support statement in the listing: menu operation is documented, while complete gameplay mapping is not. Work through the checks below before replacing the controller.
1. Confirm iOS still sees the controller
Leave Duskroot and return to Settings → Bluetooth. The controller should still show as connected. If it has disconnected, reconnect it, then reopen the game.
2. Close and relaunch Duskroot
Fully close the app and start it again while the controller is already connected. A launch-order problem can prevent an app from receiving a controller session that was established afterward.

3. Inspect Duskroot’s controls and accessibility options
If the game exposes control, accessibility, or input settings, check whether gameplay actions can be reassigned or enabled. Use the labels shown in your installed version; the public listing does not document a universal control map.
4. Test individual inputs
Try the left and right sticks, directional pad, face buttons, shoulder buttons, and triggers separately. If menus respond to one group but gameplay needs another group that produces no response, the limitation may be an unmapped action rather than a failed Bluetooth connection.
5. Try the controller’s alternate iOS mode only if documented by its maker
Some third-party pads expose different modes for different platforms. Change modes only according to the controller’s instructions, then remove the old Bluetooth pairing and pair again if iOS does not recognize the new mode.
6. Decide whether the gap is acceptable
If navigation works but a required farming or mining action cannot be assigned, Duskroot may remain playable with touch controls even though the controller is useful for menus. The available evidence does not support promising a complete workaround for an unmapped action.

When iOS does not detect the controller
- Nothing appears in Bluetooth: charge the controller, disconnect it from another phone, enable its pairing mode, and keep the devices close together.
- It appears but will not connect: tap the device entry, choose the available forget or disconnect option, restart pairing mode, and try again. A wired controller should be unplugged and firmly reinserted.
- It connects briefly and drops: charge the controller, reduce distance and interference, and test with other Bluetooth accessories temporarily disconnected.
- A wired pad is not recognized: check that the plug matches the iPhone’s Lightning or USB-C port, that the case is not blocking insertion, and that the controller is designed for iOS rather than another platform.
- The controller works in another app but not Duskroot: confirm that Duskroot was launched after the connection, then repeat the menu and gameplay tests. Another app’s support does not prove Duskroot support.

If you are purchasing a pad specifically to try with Duskroot, evaluate the hardware without treating marketing compatibility as a Duskroot certification.
- Connector: choose Bluetooth, Lightning, or USB-C based on your iPhone and whether you want a separate phone position.
- iPhone recognition: verify that the seller states iOS support and the correct operating mode, not only Windows, Android, or console support.
- Case clearance: telescopic and wired designs may require removing a case.
- Stick and button layout: select a familiar arrangement, but plan to test every control because the game’s mapping is not published.
- Battery and charging: for Bluetooth, check how it charges and whether you can monitor its remaining power.
- Returns: use a seller with a clear return policy in case menus work but an essential gameplay action does not.
- Firmware support: update only through the manufacturer’s documented process, and retest the iPhone connection afterward.
A simple compatibility test you can repeat
Use this five-minute procedure whenever you change controllers, iPhones, or iOS versions:
- Confirm the phone is on iOS 15.0 or later.
- Connect the controller in iOS Settings → Bluetooth, or attach the compatible wired pad.
- Verify that iOS reports the controller as connected before opening Duskroot.
- Navigate several menus and activate an option.
- Start or load a session and test movement, interaction, tool selection, and the actions you use most often.

What you should expect from Xbox and PS5 controllers
An Xbox wireless controller or a PlayStation 5 DualSense can be tested using the same iOS procedure, but the Duskroot listing does not confirm either one.
