To host Dungeons, Dragons and Space Shuttles 2, use the matching DDSS2-BETA 3.2 server pack for Minecraft 1.16.5, run it with the pack’s required Forge server runtime, accept the EULA, and make every player install the identical modpack and Forge profile. The current CurseForge listing is a beta release dated August 21, 2026. Because the public project page does not state the server-pack filename or a fixed RAM minimum, verify those details in the pack’s Files tab or the author’s Discord before you install.

What version of DDSS2 does the server use?

Dungeons, Dragons and Space Shuttles 2 (DDSS2) is a Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.16.5. The latest listed file is DDSS2-BETA 3.2.zip, released August 21, 2026. Freeze those two identifiers before downloading anything: a client on another DDSS2 build, Minecraft version, or Forge profile will normally fail to connect or generate a different world.

Freebi85’s CurseForge description calls DDSS2 “an absolutely massive, mind-blowing Hardcore Adventure and Tech/Magic Quest pack.” Its scale explains why setup and performance work differently from a small vanilla server:

  • 330+ mods — Freebi85/CurseForge, 2026
  • 1,204+ quests — Freebi85/CurseForge, 2026
  • Seven progression ages, tiers 0–6 — Freebi85/CurseForge, 2026
  • 25+ dimensions — Freebi85/CurseForge, 2026
  • 50+ custom machines — Freebi85/CurseForge, 2026
  • 100+ custom items — Freebi85/CurseForge, 2026
  • About 150,000 custom recipes — Freebi85/CurseForge, 2026

The pack is categorized as Adventure and RPG, Hardcore, Magic, Quests, and Tech. Treat the beta label seriously: preserve the exact ZIP and back up the world before changing versions.

What you need before installing

Choose a dedicated server machine

Use a computer or virtual server with a stable wired connection, enough free disk space for the server files, generated chunks, logs, backups, and player data, and permission to run Java and open the game port. A dedicated directory makes upgrades and rollbacks safer than placing the server in a personal Minecraft folder.

Plan memory from measurements, not a guess

No fixed DDSS2 RAM minimum is published on the public DDSS2 project page. The 330-plus-mod load, many dimensions, and large recipe and quest systems mean a small vanilla-server profile may be inadequate. Start with a conservative allocation that leaves memory for the operating system, then watch heap usage, garbage-collection pauses, CPU load, and server tick time while several players explore. Increase memory only when monitoring shows the server is genuinely constrained; assigning nearly all host RAM can make the operating system swap and worsen lag.

Record the exact artifacts

  • Minecraft: 1.16.5
  • Modpack: DDSS2-BETA 3.2.zip
  • Forge: the loader required by that DDSS2 release
  • Server pack: the matching artifact confirmed in the official Files tab or Freebi85’s Discord

Do not combine a server pack from one release with mods or configuration files copied from another.

Where is the DDSS2 server pack?

A server pack is a clean distribution intended for deployment on a host, rather than the client-oriented files installed by a launcher. CurseForge’s server-pack guidance describes this as the appropriate starting point for hosting. The public DDSS2 project page does not expose a definitive server-pack filename, so do not rely on an unverified mirror or infer a filename from the client ZIP.

  1. Open the DDSS2 project’s official Files tab.
  2. Filter or inspect files for a server-pack download associated with DDSS2-BETA 3.2 and Minecraft 1.16.5.
  3. Check the release date and file contents before downloading.
  4. If no unambiguous artifact is listed, ask in Freebi85’s Discord and retain the response or file checksum for your records.

If the server pack is unavailable, wait for an authoritative artifact rather than manually copying a client installation. Client-only files can contain settings or dependencies that are unsuitable for a dedicated server.

How to install a DDSS2 server yourself

1. Create and protect the server directory

Create a new directory such as ddss2-server-beta-3.2 on a disk with reliable free space. Keep it separate from any other Minecraft instance. Restrict write access to trusted administrators, and decide where automated world and configuration backups will be stored before the first launch.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

2. Install the required Forge server runtime

Install Forge for Minecraft 1.16.5 using the version required by the DDSS2-BETA 3.2 server pack. The public DDSS2 project page does not establish a numeric Forge build, so use the build named by the server-pack documentation or its included files; do not substitute the newest Forge installer simply because it also targets 1.16.5.

Run the installer’s server-install option and select the dedicated directory. If the server pack already contains a Forge installer, launcher JAR, or generated launch script, follow that pack’s files rather than creating a second runtime beside it.

3. Extract the matching server pack

Unpack the server-pack archive directly into the dedicated directory. Preserve its mods, config, scripts, libraries, and any default world or data folders. Do not merge folders from another DDSS2 release. If the archive includes a launch script, inspect it for the intended Java command and memory flags, then run that script from the server directory.

4. Complete the first launch and EULA

Start the server once. A normal first run creates or updates files including the EULA file, server properties, logs, and world data. Stop the process cleanly after it exits or requests acceptance. Read the Minecraft EULA, then change the EULA setting to indicate acceptance only if you agree to its terms. Never bypass this step by deleting the file or repeatedly forcing a failed launch.

5. Configure server properties

Open server.properties after the initial generation and set values appropriate for your community:

  • Server name or MOTD: identify the DDSS2 world and beta release.
  • Difficulty: choose the level your group expects; the pack is designed as a hardcore quest experience, but the property remains an administrator choice.
  • Whitelist: enable it for a private group and add players deliberately.
  • View distance: begin conservatively and raise it only after tick-time testing.
  • Operator access: grant it to as few trusted administrators as possible.
  • Network port and binding: use your host’s firewall and router rules, and avoid exposing administration services unnecessarily.

The DDSS2 project information does not prescribe pack-specific values for these settings. Record every change so it can be reproduced after a rollback.

6. Start, stop, and verify

  1. Launch the supplied script or Forge server command from the server directory.
  2. Wait for the console to finish loading instead of connecting during startup.
  3. Confirm that a world directory, logs, and expected mod/config files are present.
  4. Join locally first, create or load a test world, and check that quests, dimensions, and key machines initialize.
  5. Stop with the console’s normal stop command; do not kill the process while it is saving.
  6. Make the first complete backup before inviting players.

How players connect with the correct profile

Every player must use Minecraft 1.16.5, DDSS2-BETA 3.2, the same Forge loader build, and matching server-side mod and configuration files. A player who installs only the client ZIP but has a different Forge build, an extra mod, or a changed configuration can receive a missing-mod, mismatched-mod, or registry error.

Client onboarding checklist

  1. Install the launcher profile for DDSS2-BETA 3.2.
  2. Confirm that the profile reports Minecraft 1.16.5 and the server-required Forge build.
  3. Use the server address and port supplied by the administrator.
  4. Remove experimental extra mods and avoid editing the pack’s configs unless the server administrator instructs everyone to make the same change.
  5. Connect only after the administrator confirms the server has completed startup.

For CurseForge-hosted servers, CurseForge documents a server-profile import that can provide the modpack, IP address, and connection details to invited players. This reduces profile mistakes, but players should still verify the displayed version before connecting.

How much RAM does a DDSS2 server need?

There is no authoritative single number in the DDSS2 project information. Instead, size the server from observed workload:

  • Watch allocated and used heap while the server starts, loads chunks, and runs quests.
  • Track CPU saturation and tick duration during exploration, dimension changes, automation, and machine-heavy bases.
  • Test with the expected number of concurrent players, not just an empty world.
  • Leave headroom for the operating system, backups, and file cache.
  • Increase allocation in measured steps, then retest; more RAM cannot repair a CPU bottleneck, excessive view distance, or a faulty mod.

Long startup, frequent pauses, “Can’t keep up” messages, or rising tick time indicate that you should inspect memory, CPU, disk I/O, and world-generation activity together. Do not advertise a RAM figure as a DDSS2 requirement unless it comes from a documented host test for this exact release.

Self-hosting versus managed DDSS2 hosting

Self-hosting gives you direct access to files, configs, backups, Java flags, and beta rollbacks. You are responsible for firewalling, updates, monitoring, recovery, and network latency. Managed hosting trades some control for a control panel, a provider’s data-center connection, and varying levels of support.

Decision factor Self-hosted server Managed option
Installation effort Install Forge, unpack and verify the server pack, configure networking, and maintain the machine. Usually provides an installer or preconfigured instance; confirm that it supports DDSS2-BETA 3.2.
File and configuration control Full access, including custom scripts and rollback copies. Access depends on the panel and provider policies.
Performance headroom You choose hardware and can observe its actual CPU, RAM, and disk limits. Advertised resources may be shared or constrained; request current specifications.
Latency Depends on your home or rented machine’s location and uplink. Choose a region close to most players, if the provider offers that choice.
Backups and support You must schedule, test, and store backups and handle incidents. Backup frequency, restoration, support response, and uptime terms vary by provider.
Beta pinning and rollback Keep the exact ZIP and restore your world and configs yourself. Confirm whether the panel lets you select and retain a specific beta release.
Cost Depends on hardware, electricity, bandwidth, and any virtual-server rental. Recurring subscription; verify current price, taxes, limits, and cancellation terms.

CurseForge’s documented hosted tiers

CurseForge’s hosted workflow has five stages: select the modpack and matching server pack, choose a plan, choose a region, enter server details, and purchase. CurseForge’s guide lists the following prices at the time of that guide; availability and pricing can change and should be rechecked before purchase. The service is described as powered by Shockbyte and billed through Tebex.

Plan Advertised RAM Advertised price
Iron 4 GB $12 per month
Gold 8 GB $24 per month
Diamond 12 GB $36 per month

These tiers are sales-plan specifications, not a guarantee that a particular player count or DDSS2 workload will perform well. Confirm the supported DDSS2 release, CPU allocation, backup policy, region, renewal price, and beta rollback process.

Other managed-provider leads

StickyPiston advertises a pre-installed DDSS2 BETA 3.2 server with optimization and management support. WinterNode advertises one-click DDSS2 installation and links to its modpack-installation guidance. Treat both as leads rather than endorsements: verify current version support, pricing, region coverage, uptime commitments, support scope, and any affiliate relationship before ordering.

Troubleshooting common DDSS2 server problems

“Client cannot connect” or a mismatched-mod error

  • Check Minecraft 1.16.5 on both sides.
  • Check that both use DDSS2-BETA 3.2, not merely a similarly named beta.
  • Compare the Forge loader build and server-side mods and config folders.
  • Remove client-only additions and revert local configuration edits.
  • Read the server log and the client’s latest log for the first reported mismatch, not just the final disconnect message.

The server-pack file is missing or appears wrong

Return to the official DDSS2 Files tab and compare the release name and date. If the server artifact is not clearly identified, ask in Freebi85’s Discord. The public project page does not establish a definitive filename, so do not rename a client archive and treat it as a server pack.

Startup is extremely long or the server lags

Large mod, dimension, quest, machine, and recipe counts make long startup and heavy world generation plausible. Monitor heap, CPU, disk activity, and tick time. Reduce view distance, avoid generating many new chunks while testing, and verify that the host is not swapping. If one mod repeatedly appears at the first error in the log, isolate that failure before adding more RAM.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Players installed the wrong profile

Have them remove the incorrect launcher instance and import the hosted server profile when using CurseForge’s workflow. For self-hosted servers, distribute the exact release name, Minecraft version, Forge build, and server address in one onboarding message.

A beta update breaks the world

Stop the server, restore the last known-good world, configs, and exact release ZIP, then test the update on a copy. Never update a live beta world without a recoverable backup. Keep old backups separate from the active directory so an automatic cleanup job cannot remove your rollback point.
