Keysight says its Pro XG7-class SG6311A PSG Analog Signal Generator combines two fully independent channels, a 20 GHz maximum frequency and a 2U rack chassis. The company announced the instrument on September 29, 2026, positioning it for test setups that need multiple signal sources without adding another rack-mounted unit. Its published noise and output-power figures are manufacturer-reported specifications, not independently validated results.
What Keysight announced
The SG6311A is an analog signal generator with two independent channels in one 2U chassis, according to Keysight. The design combines source generation and rack-space considerations: engineers can configure both channels as separate sources while occupying one instrument’s chassis space.
Keysight names aerospace and defense, advanced wireless, and high-speed digital testing as intended application areas. The announcement does not establish that the generator is suitable for every test in those fields; required frequency, signal quality, power, and system integration depend on the specific setup.

Keysight’s September 29, 2026 announcement reports the following figures. The stated conditions matter: noise specifications vary with measurement frequency and offset, so the values should not be read as applying across the entire operating range.

Why source noise affects a measurement
A signal generator is part of the measurement chain, not a perfectly clean reference by default. Noise contributed by the source can obscure behavior from the device under test. Keysight’s stated rationale is that lower phase noise, amplitude modulation noise, and broadband noise can make device behavior easier to see. That is the manufacturer’s explanation of the instrument’s intended benefit, rather than an independent measurement of improved test results.
What the figures do—and do not—tell you
The phase-noise and amplitude-modulation-noise figures are specified at 10 GHz and a 10 kHz offset; the broadband noise-floor figure is specified at 10 GHz. They are not a complete noise profile over all frequencies or offsets. The announcement also does not provide independent laboratory validation or a model-to-model comparison. Engineers evaluating a setup should confirm that the full specifications and conditions in the instrument documentation match their test requirements.

What two independent channels can change in a test rack
For a test that needs two separately controlled signal sources, independent channels may allow both sources to come from one instrument. That can increase the source capacity of an existing rack without requiring a second rack-mounted generator. It is a potential workflow and space benefit, not a quantified throughput claim: actual test capacity depends on the devices, test sequence, switching, automation, and other equipment in the system.

Two channels are most relevant when a test plan genuinely needs multiple sources at once. They do not by themselves establish that a test will finish faster, replace every second instrument, or satisfy requirements for a particular signal configuration. Confirm channel independence and all required operating modes against the product documentation before designing around them.

Integration details for existing test systems
Keysight says the SG6311A supports SCPI, has familiar rear-panel connections, and uses settings aligned with previous-generation instruments. The company presents these choices as a way to support reuse of automation and test procedures. Compatibility with a particular script, connection, or legacy setup is not guaranteed by those general statements; verify the required commands, interfaces, and configuration in the product documentation.

Jun Chie, Keysight Vice President of Core Product Management, described the instrument as building on the company’s PSG signal-generator line and emphasized “purity, power, and productivity.” This is a company executive’s characterization of the product, not a third-party assessment.
