DStv’s official documentation describes an installation wizard for setting up a decoder—not a separate personalized “Wizard” service. For the documented HD Decoder flow, connect the decoder correctly to the satellite dish, then run the installation wizard. Explora documentation also describes a wizard for first-time setup. The exact steps depend on your decoder model and local instructions.
What does “Wizard on DStv” mean?
The phrase is ambiguous. A secondary article published by SoftHandTech on August 23, 2026, describes a personalized feature, but the official DStv sources reviewed here do not confirm that service or its claimed functions. DStv’s product and setup material uses “installation wizard” to describe decoder setup. Do not rely on claims about recommendations, profiles, ratings, watchlists, or reminders as official DStv features without documentation from DStv.

The wizard is part of getting a decoder set up. DStv’s HD Decoder page says: “Once you have connected the decoder correctly to the satellite dish, run the installation wizard.” That instruction establishes the order—connect the equipment first, then start the wizard. The page does not establish that a Wi-Fi Connector is needed to run it.

For an HD Decoder, the page identifies the dish cable connection as LNB IN and the television connection as HDMI. It also describes a DStv Wi-Fi Connector on USB for specified internet features, including Catch Up Plus and remote recordings. Those features are separate from the documented installation-wizard instruction.
How to prepare for setup
- Identify your exact decoder model and follow its current local guide; DStv equipment and instructions can vary by market and model.
- Check that the dish cable and television connection are attached as specified for your model. On the HD Decoder page, these are LNB IN for the satellite dish and HDMI for an HD television.
- For an Explora installation, consider using a DStv Accredited Installer. The Explora guide says, “We recommend the use of a DStv Accredited Installer for all installations.”
Run the installation wizard
- Connect the decoder to the satellite dish. Use the correct connection for your model. The HD Decoder page identifies LNB IN for the dish cable.
- Connect the decoder to the television. The HD Decoder page identifies HDMI for an HD television.
- Power on the equipment and follow the on-screen installation wizard. The available sources confirm the wizard should be run after correct connection, but do not provide a universal sequence of screen prompts. Follow the instructions shown on your decoder and in its model-specific guide.
Explora equipment details are guide-specific
The Explora Quick Guide documents an Installation Wizard for first-time setup. For the installation covered by that guide, it specifies a 90 cm satellite dish and a DStv Smart LNB. Treat these as requirements for that guide’s setup, not as universal requirements for every DStv decoder or a guarantee of current availability in every market.

The guide also says Explora performance and feature availability depend on installation quality, approved equipment, and correct dish alignment. If the wizard does not complete or the decoder cannot receive a signal, an installer can check those physical installation factors against the instructions for your model.
If you meant a different “Wizard”
The official sources cited here verify decoder setup, not a separate DStv service with personalized recommendations or interactive features. If you saw “Wizard” in an app, menu, promotion, or third-party article, check whether DStv itself names and documents that feature for your country and decoder. Until then, treat specific claims about its capabilities as unverified.
