What is Drova – Forsaken Kin?
Drova is a 2D, pixel-art action RPG built around a grim-dark fantasy world shaped by Celtic mythology. Its premise begins with a society that captures the spirits governing nature. The spirits retaliate, dividing that society and setting the game’s conflict in motion.

How the world and choices work
Two factions with lasting consequences
During the story you choose between the Remnants and Nemeton. Steam says the decision remains relevant for the rest of the game and affects the entire story, making faction selection more than a cosmetic alignment. Dialogue, teachers, abilities, enemies and betrayals all contribute to the consequences of that choice.
Exploration-led progression
The game expects you to learn how its world works through observation and experimentation. Environmental clues can reveal routes, threats and opportunities, while gathering and trading provide materials and resources for equipment. Progression supports different playstyles through skills, weapons and combat abilities rather than a single prescribed build.
Combat, crafting and difficulty
Steam describes a flow-based combat system with multiple weapons and combos. You can combine exploration with material collection, equipment crafting and skill development before facing the world’s dangers. The intended experience is survival as much as power growth: enemies, resource decisions and unfamiliar areas can make advancement risky.
Notebookcheck reported praise for exploration, progression and the dark atmosphere, but also noted reactions that the difficulty can feel uneven. Other reported criticism includes a story some players find lacking in depth and similarities to the Gothic series. Those are published player and critic reactions, not independent performance testing.

Who should buy Drova at the sale price?
- Choose it if you want: open-ended exploration, meaningful faction and dialogue decisions, crafting and gathering, flow-based weapon combat, and a dark Celtic-inspired setting.
- Think twice if you prefer: tightly guided questing, a consistently even difficulty curve, or a story that prioritizes depth over world discovery.
- Best value test: play the demo first, especially if combat responsiveness or difficulty balance is a concern.
At the reported 50% discount, Drova offers a relatively inexpensive way to sample a choice-driven indie action RPG with a substantial exploration and progression loop. Its strongest differentiators are the lasting faction choice, environmental discovery and atmosphere; its main cautions are reported difficulty spikes, perceived Gothic influence and mixed views on narrative depth.
