Decide whether the menu is for actions or navigation
Identify what each menu item does before choosing a pattern. The W3C APG distinguishes a menu button that opens an actions menu from one that opens a navigation menu. An action invokes a command; a navigation item takes the user to another location. See the W3C Menu Button Pattern.

These patterns are not interchangeable just because both interfaces look like a button followed by a list. Confirm the intended behavior before adopting V11 or adapting another example.
What to check in an implementation
Button state
In the W3C APG actions-menu example, the button has aria-haspopup="true". Its aria-expanded value is false while the menu is closed and true while it is displayed. The example describes aria-controls as optional. These are details of the W3C example; without V11’s actual code, they cannot be attributed to that snippet.

Behavior and assistive-technology testing
The W3C says its example is illustrative and cautions against using it in production without reading its notes. It also warns that browser and assistive-technology support gaps may occur, and says code based on the example should be tested with assistive technologies before production use. That warning applies to the example; it is not a blanket claim that every custom dropdown is inaccessible.

For V11, inspect the actual implementation and test the finished interface with the browsers and assistive technologies relevant to your users. A title or claim that a snippet is “free” does not establish that it is accessible, production-ready, or compatible with a particular setup.

What you need before you can assess V11
- The original source page or repository, so you can confirm you have the intended snippet.
- The complete HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, plus any framework or dependency requirements.
- A clear description of whether the menu contains actions or navigation links.
- Evidence of browser and assistive-technology testing for the implementation you plan to deploy.
Until those details are available, treat “Dropdown V11” as an unverified reference rather than a known, tested component. The W3C pattern is useful context for evaluating a menu button, but it cannot verify V11’s implementation.
