Yes—but the connection is creative rather than a licensing deal. Fuse Games co-founder Matt Webster identified Formula 1’s Drive to Survive as an early touch point for the rivalries, personalities and behind-the-scenes drama in Star Wars: Galactic Racer. Galactic Racer itself is an official Star Wars video game, not a Netflix television series.
What Star Wars: Galactic Racer is
Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a racing game made by Fuse Games in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games. It launched worldwide on October 6, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The game is set in the New Republic-era galaxy and presents an original racing adventure rather than an adaptation of a documentary series.

The central competition is an unsanctioned Outer Rim Galactic League. You play as Shade, a lone racer drawn into a conflict involving Darius Pax, the league’s organizer, and Kestar Bool, a reigning champion whose influence and schemes drive the main struggle.
How Drive to Survive influenced the game
Webster described the Formula 1 series as “one of our early touch points.” His explanation focused on the way competition can be compelling away from the circuit as well as during a race: “The interest, excitement, intrigue and drama can be as exciting off the track as it is on the track.”
#1 Best Overall
- RACE THROUGH THE GALAXY: Pick your team, play your cards, and speed through the track while dodging traps and outsmarting your opponents.
- LIGHT STRATEGY & FAST ACTION: A fun, easy-to-learn game that combines quick decision-making and tactical gameplay for all skill levels.
- BEWARE OF TRAPS: Your rivals can set obstacles in your path—plan ahead to avoid setbacks and race to victory!
- PERFECT FOR STAR WARS FANS: Features iconic Star Wars themes and characters, making it a must-have for collectors and families.
- FUN FOR ALL AGES: Designed for ages 8 and up, this family-friendly strategy game is great for game nights, parties, and Star Wars enthusiasts.
That makes the influence a storytelling and presentation reference, not a conversion of Drive to Survive into a Star Wars setting. Galactic Racer uses the same broad dramatic idea—rivalries, alliances, personalities and political pressure surrounding a sporting contest—while supplying its own characters, vehicles and galaxy. There is no indication that the game licenses the documentary, recreates its episodes or follows real Formula 1 drivers.
On-track action and off-track drama
Races involve driving lines, vehicle handling, hazards and takedowns. Between events, rival conversations, alliances and paddock-style scenes give those results context. A win can alter relationships and momentum, while a rival’s plans help explain why the next event matters.
Rank #2
- Star Wars Episode I Racer: Choose from 25 playable racers including: Anakin Skywalker, Sebulba, and Ratts Tyerell
- Star Wars Episode I Racer: Race tracks spanning 8 unique worlds including: Tatooine, Baroonda, and Malastare

- Star Wars Republic Commando: Battle a variety of highly intelligent and deadly enemies-from brutal Trandoshan mercenaries to the flying insectoid warriors of Geonosis.
How the story and progression work
An unsanctioned league
Shade enters Darius Pax’s Outer Rim Galactic League, a competition operating outside normal authority. Kestar Bool’s status as champion gives the story a visible sporting target, but his power and schemes make the league more than a sequence of disconnected races.

Campaign progression is runs-based. Players choose routes through available events and decide which upgrades to take as a tour develops. Those choices shape the immediate risk and reward of a run instead of presenting one completely fixed race order.
Rank #3
- The following games are included in the cartridge: STAR WARS Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy (3.6 GB)
- STAR WARS Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast (1.1 GB)
- STAR WARS Episode I Racer (254 MB)
- STAR WARS Republic Commando (2.5 GB)
- STAR WARS: The Force Unleashed (3.4 GB)
Failure and carryover unlocks
A failed tour sends the player back to rebuild rather than ending the entire progression system. Some unlocks carry forward, allowing later attempts to begin with a stronger foundation. This structure combines the tension of a single run with longer-term advancement.
Vehicles have different identities
Galactic Racer includes several repulsorcraft classes rather than treating every vehicle as a cosmetic variation. Landspeeders, skim speeders, speederbikes and podracers each have distinct handling characteristics and tactical advantages. That variety matters when choosing an event path, because a vehicle that feels effective in one type of race may demand a different approach in another.
- Landspeeders: one of the game’s repulsorcraft classes, with its own handling profile.
- Skim speeders: a separate class with different driving characteristics.
- Speederbikes: a class built around another handling and tactical profile.
- Podracers: the fourth documented class, also differentiated through handling and race tactics.
The available game information does not establish universal rankings for these classes, so the meaningful comparison is their different behavior and strategic use rather than a single best vehicle.

Official launch coverage identifies four broad ways to play:
Best Value
- Choose which faction you'd like to join - The Rebel Alliance, Imperial Army, Clone Troopers or the Separatists
- Drive AT-ST's, speeder bikes and tanks to outmaneuver your opponents
- Jump into the cockpit of X-Wings and TIE Fighters and fight for control of space
- Explore actual locations from the Star Wars films, like the wooded moon of Endor and the ice planet Hoth -- and new locations like Kamino, the ocean planet
- The ringed world of Geonosis, the jungle moon of Yavin IV, the canals and bridges of Naboo are all created in amazing, fully-realized 3D
- Campaign: the narrative journey through Shade’s league, rivals and runs-based progression.
- Scenario: a separate mode for playing defined race situations.
- Arcade: a mode focused on standalone racing sessions.
- Competitive multiplayer: head-to-head play against other racers.
Specific event rules, player counts and cross-platform details were not stated in the published launch information, so those features should be checked in the game’s current platform listing or in-game documentation.
Is Galactic Racer a Netflix show?
No. The Netflix-series wording belongs to the question about what inspired the game, not to Galactic Racer’s format. Galactic Racer is a released Star Wars game for current-generation consoles and PC. Drive to Survive supplied a model for making the competition’s off-track intrigue feel important; it did not become the game’s television adaptation, publisher or story license.
Why the comparison is useful
Traditional racing games often make the race itself the whole story. Galactic Racer is designed to connect the driving with what happens around it: who controls the league, which rivals cooperate, what information is revealed between events and how a failed tour changes the next attempt. That is the specific lesson Fuse Games took from sports-documentary storytelling and translated into an original Star Wars framework.
