Neither host is automatically the better value: compare the plan’s full first-term charge, renewal price, and included features against your site’s needs. DreamHost Launch is shown at $2.89 per month for one year, with a $10.99 monthly renewal. Check the commitment period and upfront charge before buying.

What the advertised prices actually commit you to

Monthly equivalents can make hosting plans look comparable when their billing terms are not. DreamHost says the full first-term charge plus taxes is collected at checkout. Its Launch plan is displayed at $2.89 per month for the first year and renews at $10.99 per month. See DreamHost’s current Web Hosting plans and billing FAQ for the displayed terms.

Confirm the term, total due, taxes, renewal rate, and any regional differences before buying.

How to compare the bill

  1. Find the exact plan name and billing term you would select.
  2. Compare the amount charged at checkout, not just the per-month equivalent.
  3. Check the renewal price and when it applies; promotional pricing covers the first term.
  4. Add costs for domain renewal, email after any trial, or optional services you actually need.

Which plan fits one site or several?

Start with the number of sites and the resources you need, then compare the exact tiers.

DreamHost’s plan page presents tier-specific features rather than one set of terms for every plan. Select a particular plan and term there before comparing site capacity or storage with another host. A starter plan that suits one small site may not be the right fit for multiple sites or a growing workload.

Backups, domains, and email can change the total value

Backup frequency and recovery

DreamHost lists daily automated backups on its displayed plans, and its FAQ describes 14-day retention for relevant plans. Frequency is only part of the decision: check the chosen tier’s retention, restoration process, and eligibility before relying on backups as your recovery plan.

Domain terms

DreamHost’s free first-year domain and private registration apply to annual and multi-year Web Hosting, DreamPress, and Managed VPS plans, not monthly plans. A free first year does not mean the domain stays free at renewal. Review the applicable terms at DreamHost’s terms.

Email terms

DreamHost describes a three-month email trial on Launch, Growth, and Scale, with mailbox counts varying by tier; email is billed separately after the trial. Its High-Performance Web Hosting plan includes unlimited mailboxes. If you need email beyond the initial period, include its ongoing cost and the precise mailbox allowance in your comparison.

WordPress migration, CDN, and site tools

DreamHost offers a free automated transfer tool for WordPress; other site types may need manual migration or a paid migration service. Identify your site’s platform and migration needs before assuming a move will be free or automated. The details are on DreamHost’s plans page.

DreamHost describes Bunny CDN as an optional paid add-on for Web Hosting; managed WordPress plans can differ. Compare these features at the tier you would actually buy rather than assuming every plan from a provider includes them.

Support, refunds, and uptime claims

DreamHost advertises a 30-day hosting refund window. This is a published offer, not a substitute for checking exclusions and the terms that apply to your order.

Performance claims require particular care. DreamHost’s current plan page describes a 100% uptime guarantee that provides service credit for qualifying offline time. A guarantee is a contractual remedy, not a measurement showing that a site actually achieves that uptime. Data-center counts and guarantees do not establish which host will be faster for your visitors.

Is either host faster or more reliable?

The available material does not establish a current, independent, like-for-like performance winner. A useful comparison would need to match plan level, site configuration, visitor geography, and measurement period. TechRadar published a hands-on comparison in March 2025, but its plan configurations and prices do not align with the providers’ current displayed offers, so it cannot settle a 2026 choice. If performance is decisive, look for recent testing that matches your intended plans and audience rather than relying on provider claims or a universal ranking.

Which host should you choose?

Choose based on the first-term budget

Compare the total checkout charge and length of commitment, not just the monthly figure. Check DreamHost’s current displayed terms before deciding whether the first-term cost fits your budget.

Choose based on site count and growth

For DreamHost, compare the precise plan’s capacity and upgrade path on its current plan page. Do not assume a starter tier will scale without limits.

Choose based on WordPress and operational needs

For a WordPress move, weigh the automated transfer option, backup retention and restoration process, and any CDN or email charges alongside the hosting price. For non-WordPress sites, account for the possibility that DreamHost’s migration may involve manual work or a fee.
