Verdict: The Dreame Aero Ultra Steam is a premium hard-floor washer that combines dry-debris pickup, mopping, steam, hot-water cleaning, suction and automatic roller washing in one cordless appliance. It is especially compelling for sticky, greasy, dried-on and pet-related messes. The trade-off is substantial heft: Popular Mechanics measured the tested unit at 18.3 pounds, making a lighter vacuum more practical for small daily spills.
What the Aero Ultra Steam does
This is a wet-and-dry floor washer for sealed hard floors rather than a conventional stick vacuum or carpet cleaner. Its cleaning head can collect loose debris, dispense water and solution, apply steam, recover dirty liquid and wash its roller on the dock. A 180-degree lie-flat design is intended to let the head reach beneath tables and other low furniture.
Dreame markets five floor-washing modes: Steam, Hot Water, Smart, Eco and Suction. Smart mode uses a multispectral dirt sensor to adjust suction, water flow and solution ratio as conditions change. The company also specifies six steam outlets delivering 3,000 mg per minute. Those are manufacturer specifications, not independent laboratory results.

How it performed in independent testing
Sticky and dried-on messes
Popular Mechanics reviewer Amber Joglar found the machine effective on sticky and dried-on messes. Steam helped loosen grime on tile and laminate, while suction recovered loose debris and dirty water. The roller left long, even tracks without noticeable streaking. She used Auto mode most often as a compromise between cleaning power and battery consumption.
Weight and controls
The same test measured the unit at 18.3 pounds, heavier than Dreame’s listed 14.3-pound main-body figure. Joglar considered it cumbersome for quick cleanups and found the display and one-button mode cycling less intuitive than expected. Her conclusion was that the machine suits people seeking advanced floor-care functions who are willing to accept the weight.
Household test conditions
SlashGear’s Jonathan H. Kantor used the product for at least a week and encountered muddy dog footprints during a flood watch, an unusually demanding household situation. Hunker’s Sheila Kim ran a four-day test in a 700-square-foot home with pet fur, cat litter, dust, hair, dried pet food and water stains. Her tile trials included dry food, wet cat food, coffee, ketchup and mustard; she repeated the tests and wiped the cleaned areas with paper towels to look for residue. These are useful real-home observations, not standardized comparative laboratory tests, so results may differ with floor finish, soil load and cleaning technique.

Using the machine effectively
- Charge before a deep-clean session. A full charge is listed at four hours. Plan around the mode you will actually use: Eco is rated for up to 100 minutes, while hot-water and steam modes are rated for up to 30 minutes.
- Fill the clean-water tank. The tank holds 900 ml. Use only a solution approved for this model and follow its dilution directions rather than adding household detergents.
- Select a mode. Cycle through Steam, Hot Water, Smart, Eco or Suction with the control button. Smart mode is the most hands-off option because the dirt sensor varies suction, water and solution delivery.
- Work over sealed hard flooring. Steam and hot water are intended to loosen grime; confirm that your floor manufacturer’s care instructions allow this level of moisture and heat. The evidence here covers hard-floor cleaning, not carpet washing.
- Use the lie-flat reach where it helps. The 180-degree hinge and 3.88-inch profile can be useful beneath low furniture, provided the surface is suitable for wet cleaning.
- Return the unit to its dock after cleaning. The dock washes the roller with steam and hot water, then dries it with heated air. Review materials describe five-minute and 30-minute drying choices; Dreame lists a 203°F drying function.
Who should buy the Aero Ultra Steam
- Households with sealed hard floors and frequent sticky, greasy, dried-on or pet-related messes.
- Buyers who want steam, hot water, suction and roller self-cleaning in one cordless appliance.
- Users who regularly need to clean under tables or low furniture.
- Owners prepared to empty the 600 ml dirty-water tank and run the dock’s wash-and-dry cycle after use.
Who should choose something else
- If most jobs are tiny spills, an 18-pound-class floor washer can feel cumbersome compared with a lighter cleaner.
- If you primarily want dry debris pickup without wetting the floor, a dedicated lightweight vacuum is more convenient; the independent reviewer preferred one for everyday messes.
- If you dislike menu-driven displays or one-button mode cycling, the control system may require a learning period.
Maintenance and replacement supplies
Empty and rinse the dirty-water tank promptly after each session. Wet debris and liquid left sitting in any wet-dry vacuum can retain residue and produce odors, so the automatic cycle is not a substitute for basic tank care. Inspect the roller and filter when suction or pickup declines, and allow the selected heated-drying cycle to finish before storing the machine.

Against another wet-dry vacuum, compare the weight you will push, maneuverability around furniture, whether steam or hot water is available, runtime in the mode you plan to use, dirty-water capacity, self-cleaning and drying options, control simplicity, and the ongoing cost and availability of solution, filters and rollers. A lower headline price may not be better value if it lacks heated drying or requires more frequent manual cleaning.

Bottom line
The Aero Ultra Steam earns its premium positioning through breadth rather than a single headline feature: it can vacuum loose debris, mop, apply steam, use hot water and clean its own roller. Independent testing supports strong performance on sticky and dried-on household messes, but also confirms that the machine is heavy and its controls are not immediately intuitive. Choose it when deep hard-floor cleaning matters more than nimble daily spill pickup; otherwise, a lighter wet-dry or dry vacuum will be easier to live with.
