Choose Dragon’s Dogma 2 for vocation-based action combat with a customized Pawn party, Skyrim for open-ended fantasy exploration, or Monster Hunter Wilds for learning weapons and taking on monster hunts. The best fit depends on what you want to spend most of your time doing—not on a universal ranking. This comparison is based on official game descriptions, not hands-on testing.
How the three games differ
| Game | Main activity | Combat and character focus | What to check before buying |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dragon’s Dogma 2 | An action-RPG adventure with a companion party. | Distinct vocations shape combat; the player can customize the Arisen and a main Pawn. Pawns support the journey, but the game is single-player. | Confirm your platform, region, and product format. The cited PlayStation listing is for PS5. |
| The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition | Open-world exploration and self-directed fantasy role-playing. | Define your character through choices such as weapons, spells, and abilities, then explore at your own pace. | Check whether you want the Anniversary Edition or its digital upgrade. Bethesda says the upgrade requires Skyrim Special Edition. |
| Monster Hunter Wilds | Prepare for and complete hunts against monsters in changing environments. | Choose from 14 weapon types; Capcom describes carrying two weapons and swapping between them while mounted. | Check the store listing for your platform, region, and current edition details. |
These distinctions reflect the games’ official descriptions: PlayStation’s Dragon’s Dogma 2 page, Bethesda’s Skyrim page, and Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds materials. They do not establish which game is better, more difficult, or longer.
Choose Dragon’s Dogma 2 for vocation-based combat and a party
Pick Dragon’s Dogma 2 if the appeal is a fantasy journey where real-time combat and your party are central. Its vocations offer different strengths and playstyles, while a customized main Pawn and additional Pawn companions support the player. The game is single-player; the Pawn system can include recruiting companions created by other players.
This is the clearest fit if you want your combat approach to be shaped by a vocation and prefer adventuring with companions rather than roaming entirely alone. PlayStation describes it as a single-player, narrative-driven action RPG, and Capcom’s manual covers its vocations and Pawn commands: PlayStation product information and Capcom’s game manual.

Choose Skyrim for open-ended exploration
Choose Skyrim if you want room to decide what kind of fantasy character to be and how to explore the world. Its central appeal is self-directed play, rather than a hunt-focused loop or a party built around a customized Pawn.
Bethesda’s Anniversary Edition bundles the base game, three official add-ons, and Creation Club content. If you already own Skyrim Special Edition, check whether the digital upgrade is the product you need; Bethesda says that upgrade requires the Special Edition. Included content and supported platforms should be verified on the store page for your market. See Bethesda’s Skyrim page.

Choose Monster Hunter Wilds for weapon mastery and hunts
Choose Monster Hunter Wilds if the activity you most want is preparing for monster encounters, learning a weapon, and completing hunts. Capcom describes 14 weapon types and a loadout that lets a hunter carry two weapons and swap between them while mounted. That makes weapon selection and the hunt loop the focus, rather than the broad, self-directed character role-playing emphasis associated with Skyrim.

If you like Skyrim, should you try Dragon’s Dogma 2?
It may suit you if what you enjoy about fantasy RPGs is exploring a world and building a character, and you are also interested in real-time action combat, vocations, and a companion party. Expect a different emphasis: Dragon’s Dogma 2 foregrounds vocation-specific combat and Pawns, while Skyrim foregrounds open-ended exploration and freedom to shape your character. The games are not interchangeable, so choose based on which activity you want to dominate your playtime.
