The Finder’s Token is found where you picked up your first Seeker’s Token in your current playthrough. The spot is different for each save, so a map coordinate from another player may be useless. After the Sphinx gives the Riddle of Rumination, return to that original pickup point, collect the Finder’s Token, and take it back to the Sphinx within the reported seven in-game-day limit. Walkthroughs list three Ferrystones as the reward.
What the Riddle of Rumination is asking for
The Riddle of Rumination is one of the Sphinx’s challenges in A Game of Wits. You receive it at the Mountain Shrine. The item you need is called the Finder’s Token, but the clue points backward to a different collectible: your first Seeker’s Token pickup in this playthrough.
That distinction explains why searching for a universal location often fails. The game uses an event from your own save—the earliest Seeker’s Token you collected—as the answer location. When the riddle is active, the Finder’s Token appears at that same spot. It is not placed at one published coordinate that every player can share.

It uses your first pickup in the current playthrough
Think back to the first time you personally collected a Seeker’s Token after starting this run. That location is the target. It does not matter whether you remember the token because of a landmark, an enemy camp, a roof, a cave, or a small hill; the relevant fact is that it was the first token registered by this playthrough.

Guides describe the current playthrough as the reference point. If you are in New Game Plus, the first Seeker’s Token you collect in the new run is the one that determines the riddle. A location from an earlier completed run should not be treated as the answer for the new cycle.
Why a guide’s coordinate may be wrong for you
Another player’s first token can be anywhere they happened to explore first. A walkthrough may show a precise nest, hill, or camp, but that example only solves that author’s save. Use published locations as ideas for the sort of place to inspect, not as a guaranteed solution.
Reach the Sphinx and accept the riddle
The challenge is part of A Game of Wits and is presented at the Mountain Shrine. One reported approach runs through the Ancient Battleground and Worldsend Cavern. Another reaches the shrine by crossing the hills from the Misty Marshes. Choose whichever route is already familiar in your game; the route you take to the shrine does not change the answer location.

Step-by-step solution
- Recall your earliest Seeker’s Token. Identify the first token you picked up in this save, not the first one shown in a collectible guide and not one from a previous playthrough.
- Travel back to that exact pickup point. Reconstruct the approach you used originally. If the token was in a nest or on a rise, search the structure itself and the immediate ground around it rather than stopping at the nearest road.
- Look for the Finder’s Token. At the correct first-pickup location, the Finder’s Token is the quest item you need. It is the answer to the riddle; you are not looking for a second universal Sphinx marker.
- Collect it and return to the Mountain Shrine. Keep the seven in-game-day report in mind while traveling. If you are unsure how much time has passed, prioritize the return trip over unrelated exploration.
- Hand it to the Sphinx. Multiple walkthroughs report a reward of three Ferrystones for completing the riddle.
The important sequence is therefore first Seeker’s Token location → Finder’s Token → Sphinx. The Finder’s Token does not require you to discover a new collectible route that works for every character.
How to remember your first Seeker’s Token
If you accepted the riddle long after the early hours of the game, the difficult part is usually memory rather than combat. Rebuild your route chronologically instead of scanning every token location at random.
Start with the earliest places you explored
- Recall the first settlement or campsite where you began deliberately checking elevated spots, ruins, nests, or hidden corners.
- List the first few regions you visited in order. The answer must be in the earliest part of this run where you actually collected a token, even if you later found an earlier-looking location in a guide.
- Remember why you stopped at the spot. A distinctive enemy encounter, a climb, a nest, or a landmark is often easier to recall than the token itself.
- Revisit those locations in chronological order. Searching the most recently visited region first can waste the limited riddle window.
Do not assume that the first Seeker’s Token was the first one you noticed. The game’s reference is the first pickup, so a token you saw but left untouched would not establish the answer until you actually collected it.

Use landmarks rather than a single map pin
Published token maps can still help you recognize terrain, but they cannot tell you which entry you used first. Compare the shape of a hill, the position of a campsite, a ruined structure, or a nest with your memory of the original trip. Search the surrounding few steps as well: returning from a different direction can make a familiar location look unfamiliar.

A documented example is not a universal answer
A GameSpot walkthrough author reported finding their first Seeker’s Token in a nest on a small hill north of the campsite outside Melve. That is a useful illustration of how personal the trigger is, not a fixed solution for every player. If your first pickup occurred elsewhere, the Finder’s Token will be elsewhere too.
Can the Trickster’s Detection augment find it?
One walkthrough suggests trying the Trickster vocation’s Detection augment while searching. The author did not confirm whether Detection responds to the Finder’s Token specifically. You can try the augment if it is available to your character, but regard it as a search aid rather than a guaranteed detector.
If no signal appears, that does not prove the location is wrong. Recheck the exact first-pickup point, including nearby vertical surfaces and the small area around the original object, then continue with your route reconstruction. Detection’s applicability to this quest item remains unconfirmed in the available walkthrough evidence.
What about duplicating the Finder’s Token?
A secondary guide reports that Ibrahim’s Scrap Store can duplicate a Finder’s Token. This workaround is not established by an official quest description or by multiple independent confirmations. If you try it, treat the result as an experiment and keep a normal save available rather than relying on duplication as the primary solution.

The dependable method remains finding the location tied to your first Seeker’s Token and collecting the Finder’s Token there. A duplication claim should not replace that search, especially when the seven-day window is active.

If you cannot remember the location
There is no cited universal marker that reveals the answer after the riddle begins. The practical recovery plan is to narrow the possibilities:
- Write down the first settlements, camps, and routes you remember visiting in this playthrough.
- Mark which of those trips included deliberate exploration for collectibles.
- Start with the earliest qualifying trip and inspect the locations where a token could be tucked away—nests, small rises, ruins, and other memorable detours.
- Use the Melve example only to understand the scale of the search: the answer may be a short climb from a route rather than a major dungeon.
- After each candidate search, ask whether you actually collected a Seeker’s Token there on this run. A place you merely explored is not enough.
Because the location is generated from your actions, another player cannot reliably identify it from your character’s region alone. If you have a recording, stream archive, screenshot, or personal map marker from the opening portion of the run, it may be more useful than a general collectible map.

What happens if seven in-game days pass?
The guides used for this solution state that the Finder’s Token must be returned within seven in-game days. They do not establish a universal recovery procedure or explain every outcome after the limit expires. If you believe the deadline has passed, check whether you have an earlier save from before accepting the riddle and use the game’s normal save-management options. Do not assume that waiting or abandoning the search will reset the challenge.

How Seeker’s Tokens fit into the wider collectible system
A community wiki reports 240 Seeker’s Tokens distributed throughout the game and says they can be exchanged at a Vocation Guild. That information is useful context for understanding why the first token could have been collected almost anywhere, but it is not required to solve the Riddle of Rumination. The riddle cares about the first pickup event in your run, not your total token count or the number of tokens still uncollected.
The Finder’s Token is therefore a one-location memory test inside a much larger collectible system. You do not need to complete the wider collection, visit a guild, or locate every Seeker’s Token before attempting the Sphinx’s challenge.
