There is no verified, apples-to-apples comparison yet. Capcom’s cited Dragon’s Dogma 2 support material links to an online manual but does not establish “Relics” as an official item category or describe a relic system. Blizzard does document Diablo IV Legendary powers: they are intended to alter how abilities play, and the Season 4: Loot Reborn update says salvaging Legendary items stores their powers as reusable Legendary Aspects in the Codex of Power. Until the exact Dragon’s Dogma 2 label and behavior are confirmed in the current game or manual, treating the two terms as equivalent would be guesswork.
What the available official material actually confirms
Dragon’s Dogma 2: “Relics” is not established as a formal category
Capcom Support’s Dragon’s Dogma 2 entry, accessed October 13, 2026, leads to an online manual hub. The cited material does not define an item class called “Relics,” explain what relics do, describe how they are obtained, or state whether their effects can be transferred between items. A Capcom-domain search for “relic” also returned no result in the material reviewed.
That is an evidence limit, not proof that no player, translation, quest, community guide, or later game update uses the word. The term could be an informal description, a localization used in one region, a name for a quest object rather than equipment, or a label introduced after the cited manual was published. The responsible conclusion is narrower: the official source currently cited does not substantiate “Relics” as a Dragon’s Dogma 2 item system.

Blizzard’s Diablo IV Feature Overview, published November 1, 2019, describes Legendary powers as effects designed to change ability gameplay. Its examples include effects built around the Sorceress Teleport ability. Because that article is an early design overview, it is useful for explaining Blizzard’s intent, not for treating every original item detail as a description of the current live game.

Season 4 documented a salvage-to-Codex workflow
Blizzard’s Galvanize your Legend in Season 4: Loot Reborn, published May 2, 2024, describes a specific itemization change: salvaging Legendary items stores their powers as Legendary Aspects in the Codex of Power for reuse. In practical terms, the documented loop is to obtain a Legendary item, salvage it, and retain its power in the Codex rather than treating the original item as the only way to keep that effect.

Why the two labels should not be treated as equivalents
“Relic” and “Legendary” sound like rarity or special-item terms, but a name alone does not tell you an item’s function. A sound comparison requires the same questions to be answered for both games:
- Purpose: Is the object equipment, a modifier attached to equipment, a quest collectible, or a permanent progression unlock?
- Acquisition: Does it come from combat, exploration, quests, crafting, vendors, or a fixed reward?
- Persistence: Does the player keep the object, consume it, destroy it, or record its effect elsewhere?
- Reusability: Can its power be extracted, stored, applied to another item, or used only once?
- Build impact: Does it change an ability, alter statistics, unlock a passive, or provide a situational bonus?
- Version scope: Is the behavior tied to a particular platform, language, expansion, season, or patch?
Blizzard’s sources answer these questions for Diablo IV Legendary powers more clearly than the cited Capcom material answers them for Dragon’s Dogma 2 “Relics.” Filling the Dragon’s Dogma 2 column with assumptions would create a comparison that looks precise but is not supported.
Evidence-based comparison

How to verify what “Relics” means in your copy of Dragon’s Dogma 2
If you have seen the term in a video, guide, subtitle, or community discussion, use the following process before comparing it with Diablo IV:
- Record the exact spelling and capitalization. Write down the language, platform, edition, and game version. A translated noun or a community shorthand is not automatically an official category.
- Capture the in-game context. Note whether the word appears in an inventory heading, item tooltip, quest objective, reward screen, crafting menu, or dialogue. The context often distinguishes equipment from a quest object.
- Read the complete tooltip. Look for an explicit effect, slot, weight, value, duration, equip requirement, or instruction to use, sell, combine, or deliver the object. Do not infer a mechanic from the item’s name alone.
- Check the current official manual. Search the manual using the exact term and close variants. Confirm that the description belongs to Dragon’s Dogma 2 rather than another title, an event, or a general glossary entry.
- Test persistence safely. If the game allows a save backup, observe whether the item remains after use, can be equipped repeatedly, or disappears when exchanged. Avoid discarding a unique object solely to test a theory.
- Separate terminology from behavior. Even if “Relic” appears officially, document what it does before comparing it with a Diablo Legendary. A shared label does not imply shared rarity, slot, or progression role.
How Diablo IV Legendary powers work in the documented system
They are meant to alter ability play
Blizzard’s 2019 overview frames Legendary powers as more than small statistical upgrades. Its stated design goal is to change the way an ability behaves or is used. That distinction matters when evaluating a build: the relevant question is not simply whether an item has a higher number, but whether its effect changes decisions, timing, positioning, resource use, or skill selection.

The overview is historical design context. It should not be read as a complete list of present-day Legendary effects, classes, or item rules.
Salvaging can preserve the power in the Codex
Season 4: Loot Reborn introduced the documented salvage behavior. Instead of keeping every physical Legendary item just to retain its effect, a player can salvage the item and have its power stored as a Legendary Aspect in the Codex of Power. The stored effect can then be reused according to the current game’s Codex and imprinting rules.
This creates two different things to track: the temporary physical item and the reusable record of its power. A comparison with any Dragon’s Dogma 2 object must establish whether that game also separates an item from a stored effect; the cited Capcom material does not answer that question.
Do not generalize from a single season
The salvage statement belongs specifically to Blizzard’s May 2024 Season 4 itemization article. It does not supply a universal rule for every future season, expansion, or patch. If you are making a build decision now, inspect the current in-game Codex wording and patch notes rather than relying only on the historical overview.

What a confirmed comparison should contain
Once an official Dragon’s Dogma 2 description is available, a useful comparison can be completed without speculation. Document the two systems in the same order:
1. Define the object
State whether the Dragon’s Dogma 2 object is gear, a modifier, a collectible, or a progression item. For Diablo IV, distinguish the physical Legendary item from the Legendary Aspect recorded in the Codex.
2. Describe the player action
Explain the exact action that activates or preserves the effect: equipping, consuming, combining, salvaging, imprinting, or completing a quest. Use the game’s current labels rather than translating them into a different game’s vocabulary.
3. Explain what survives
Identify whether the original object remains, is destroyed, becomes unavailable, or is converted into another record. This is the key distinction between a collectible reward and a reusable item power.

4. Show the build consequence
Give a concrete, source-supported example of how the effect changes a character’s ability, equipment choice, or progression route. Do not add damage percentages, drop rates, item counts, or tier rankings unless an official source supplies them.
5. Scope the version
Include the game version, season, expansion, language, and platform when any of those can affect the label or behavior. A comparison without a version qualifier can become inaccurate after a balance or localization update.
Common mistakes when comparing the games
- Assuming “relic” is an official Dragon’s Dogma 2 term: the cited Capcom material does not establish that.
- Calling every special item a Legendary: in Diablo IV, the relevant documented feature is the power attached to a Legendary item and, in Season 4’s description, its storage as a Codex Aspect.
- Using the 2019 overview as a current item database: it is an early design overview, not a complete live-service reference.
- Quoting invented numbers: the cited sources provide no drop rates, item totals, or performance benchmarks for either system.
- Ignoring localization and patch scope: a translated label or later update can change what a reader sees without proving that two systems are mechanically identical.
Bottom line
Diablo IV Legendary powers have a documented role: Blizzard designed them to change ability gameplay, and its Season 4 itemization article says salvaging a Legendary stores the power as a reusable Legendary Aspect in the Codex of Power. Dragon’s Dogma 2 “Relics,” by contrast, are not defined as an official item category in the cited Capcom support and manual material. The only accurate comparison today is therefore an evidence-status comparison. Confirm the exact Dragon’s Dogma 2 label and mechanics from the current game or manual before making claims about rarity, acquisition, extraction, reuse, or build impact.
