Short answer: Dragon’s Dogma 2 has item storage, and you can open it through an innkeeper. However, Capcom does not publish a universal rule saying that every quest item will count while it is stored. Keep an item with the Arisen or a dependable pawn until the quest objective advances or the game confirms delivery. If you put it away to reduce weight, retrieve it before speaking to the recipient or entering the next quest interaction.

That cautious approach also protects you from pawn inventory changes, missing or time-dependent NPCs, hidden quest conditions, and travel restrictions on Ferrystones. The procedures below separate what Capcom documents from what remains quest-specific.

What “safe” means for a quest item

There are two separate questions behind most inventory problems:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Can you reach storage? Yes. Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma 2 support FAQ says bonus items appear in in-game storage, which is accessed through an innkeeper’s menu.
  • Will a particular quest accept an item that is in storage? The official material does not establish a rule for every quest stage. A quest may check the Arisen’s accessible inventory, a pawn’s inventory, or the game’s broader item state; the reviewed documentation does not promise that all of those checks behave identically.

Because the second answer is not universal, treat storage as a weight-management tool rather than a guaranteed way to satisfy a delivery objective. Leave the item with the Arisen or a reliable party member until the objective changes, a handover animation or message appears, or the quest log clearly records the delivery. When in doubt, retrieve the item before approaching the target.

How to access item storage

Use an innkeeper

Find an inn and speak with its innkeeper. Select the storage option in the innkeeper menu, then locate the item in the appropriate inventory list. Capcom confirms the storage location and access method, but does not state that every quest item is interchangeable with every quest stage. Do not read the presence of an item in storage as proof that a pending objective can use it from there.

When storage is useful

Storage is helpful when an item is heavy, you are carrying several unrelated materials, or you are preparing for a long journey. It is also the first place to look when an item seems to vanish from a pawn. A pawn that becomes forfeit sends items it held automatically to item storage, according to Capcom’s FAQ.

When to keep the item on a character

Keep a required item on the Arisen when:

  • The current objective explicitly says to bring, show, deliver, or use it.
  • You are about to speak to the recipient or interact with the quest target.
  • The quest has just advanced and you have not yet read the new objective.
  • You are unsure whether the next check looks at storage, the Arisen’s inventory, or a pawn’s inventory.
  • A pawn has the Hawker or Logistician specialization, which can alter carried items automatically.

Keeping the item on the Arisen is the most conservative choice because it avoids both pawn-transfer behavior and uncertainty about how a quest script reads stored items. It may add weight, so use storage between objective checks rather than immediately before one.

A safe quest-item workflow

  1. Read the active quest text. Set the relevant quest as the priority and note the exact current objective. A destination, recipient, and item can all be involved, but only the current objective tells you what the game is asking for now.
  2. Inspect all likely inventories. Check the Arisen, each pawn, and item storage at an inn. This prevents you from beginning a long trip while the item is already available elsewhere.
  3. Confirm the item’s identity. Do not discard or sell an item merely because its category sounds ordinary. If the quest names a particular object, retain that object until the handover is recorded.
  4. Carry it through the final approach. If you stored it to manage weight, return to an innkeeper and retrieve it before visiting the recipient or activating the quest interaction.
  5. Perform the interaction. Speak to the NPC or use the marked object while the item is accessible. Wait for the objective text, quest log, or other in-game confirmation to change.
  6. Re-read the new objective. A completed handover can trigger another destination, a time condition, or a second item requirement. Do not assume that finishing one delivery ends the entire quest.
  7. Only then reorganize inventory. Once the quest records progress, move surplus items to storage, change pawn assignments, or sell items that are clearly no longer required.

This sequence does not claim that storage will always fail a quest check. It avoids the opposite mistake: assuming that storage will always work when Capcom has not documented that behavior for every quest.

What happens when a pawn is lost or replaced

Forfeit recovery

Capcom states: “Furthermore, when a pawn becomes forfeit, any items they held will automatically be sent to item storage.” If a quest item was on a pawn who disappeared from the party because of a forfeit, visit an innkeeper and inspect storage before searching the world for a replacement item.

The recovery rule applies to items the pawn held at the time of the forfeit. It does not mean that every item that ever passed through the pawn will be there, nor does it establish how a particular quest validates a stored object. After recovering the item, place it on the Arisen before attempting the delivery.

Hawker and Logistician specializations

Capcom warns that the Hawker and Logistician specializations can change carried inventory through automatic transfers or sales. That can make a quest item appear to be missing even when no quest bug has occurred. If an object disappears from a pawn:

  1. Check that pawn’s current inventory.
  2. Check the Arisen’s inventory and the inventories of the other active pawns.
  3. Visit an innkeeper and inspect item storage.
  4. Review whether the pawn has Hawker or Logistician and whether an automatic transfer or sale could have occurred.
  5. After finding the item, carry it on the Arisen while testing the next quest interaction.

Do not leave a sensitive delivery item with a pawn whose specialization can modify carried inventory while you are troubleshooting. This is a practical safeguard, not a claim that those specializations affect every quest object in the same way.

Why a quest recipient or marker may be missing

No marker does not always mean a broken quest

Capcom’s FAQ says that some quests do not show a marker on the map, while others have a marker that appears or disappears over time. A missing marker therefore cannot, by itself, prove that the item is wrong or that the quest has failed. Read the objective and use the named location, NPC, or clue instead of waiting for a permanent icon.

Markers can represent a condition, not an immediate handover

Reaching a marked area may not complete the step. Capcom notes that certain quest steps require conditions to be met even after you reach the marked location. Check the objective for an action, timing requirement, conversation, or preceding task. If the recipient does not react, leave the item accessible and work through the stated condition rather than repeatedly depositing and withdrawing it.

NPC schedules matter

NPCs have their own routines. Capcom says they may move to a different location or appear only at certain times of day. If the recipient is absent:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Read the quest text again and identify the NPC’s expected location.
  • Return at another time of day and check the location again.
  • Look around nearby routes or buildings rather than assuming the map marker is permanent.
  • Keep the required item with the Arisen while you search, so a successful encounter can be completed immediately.

Check for a death and the correct morgue

Dead NPCs are sent to the Vermund Charnel House or the Battahl Morgue. If the quest giver or recipient may have died, inspect the relevant facility for that region. The correct location depends on where the NPC belongs; visiting a morgue is a troubleshooting step for a missing character, not evidence that the quest item itself has been consumed.

Use in-game guidance when the objective will not advance

With the quest set as the priority, seek a hint at a Diviner’s Salon or Reverent Shrine if the next condition remains unclear. These services can help identify a required direction when the marker, NPC schedule, or prerequisite is the real obstacle. They cannot establish a universal storage rule, so carry the item while following the hint.

Travelling with a delivery item

Ferrystone basics

The official manual states: “Use of a Ferrystone will instantly transport you to the location of a Portcrystal.” This can shorten a long delivery route, provided the quest state allows travel and you can use the stone in the current situation.

Permanent and portable Portcrystals

Portcrystal type How it works What to remember
Permanent town Portcrystal It becomes available as a destination after you interact with it once. Discovering a town is not enough; activate the crystal by interacting with it.
Portable Portcrystal You can place it, use it as a destination, then recover and move it. Its location is changeable, so confirm where it is placed before planning the trip.

These are travel mechanics, not proof that a quest item can remain in storage. If you use a Portcrystal to save time, retrieve the item first and verify the objective before teleporting.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Ferrystone restrictions

Capcom says Ferrystones may be unusable during battle or while you are under a roof. Attempting to use one under a roof does not consume the stone. Stop fighting and move to a suitable open area before trying again. If the item is still in storage, travel will not solve the inventory question; bring it onto the Arisen before the final interaction.

Storage, pawn inventory, and travel compared

Situation Documented fact Safest action for an active delivery
Item placed in storage through an innkeeper Storage is available through the innkeeper menu. Retrieve the item before speaking to the recipient if the quest has not confirmed progress.
Pawn becomes forfeit Items held by that pawn are automatically sent to item storage. Check storage, then move the item to the Arisen.
Hawker or Logistician pawn The specialization can alter carried inventory through automatic transfers or sales. Inspect all inventories and avoid relying on that pawn for a critical delivery.
Permanent town Portcrystal It must be interacted with once before it works as a destination. Activate it before the delivery trip and keep the item accessible.
Portable Portcrystal It can be placed, recovered, and moved. Confirm its current placement before using a Ferrystone.
Ferrystone during battle or under a roof It may be unusable; an invalid attempt under a roof does not consume it. Move to a valid open situation before trying again.

When you cannot proceed: a troubleshooting sequence

The quest says to deliver an item, but the recipient does nothing

  1. Confirm that the quest is the active priority and read the exact objective.
  2. Retrieve the item from storage if it is not on the Arisen.
  3. Check whether a pawn’s Hawker or Logistician specialization changed the item’s location.
  4. Revisit the NPC at another time of day.
  5. Look for an unmet condition at the marked location, such as an earlier step or required interaction.
  6. If the NPC may have died, check the Vermund Charnel House or Battahl Morgue.
  7. Seek guidance at a Diviner’s Salon or Reverent Shrine while the quest remains prioritized.

The item seems to have disappeared

  • Inspect the Arisen and every active pawn.
  • Visit an innkeeper and search item storage.
  • If a pawn became forfeit, remember that its held items should have been sent to storage.
  • Check for Hawker or Logistician automatic transfers or sales.
  • Do not buy, discard, or sell a replacement solely because the original is not visible in one inventory panel.

The map does not show the destination

Some quests have no marker, and some markers change over time. Use the written objective, the named NPC, and the relevant location. If the objective is condition-gated, reaching a location alone will not trigger completion. Keep the item on the Arisen while you investigate so that an unexpected NPC appearance does not require another trip.

You used a Ferrystone and still cannot finish

Fast travel changes your location, not the quest’s prerequisites. Confirm that the recipient is present, the time is appropriate, the Portcrystal destination was activated, and the item is accessible. If the stone would not activate, leave battle and move out from under a roof; a failed under-roof attempt does not consume it.

Practical rules for avoiding lost progress

  • Read before moving. Quest text can reveal that the next task is a condition rather than a delivery.
  • Carry before checking. Put the named item on the Arisen before the final conversation or interaction.
  • Store between checks. Use an innkeeper to reduce weight only after the current objective has advanced.
  • Audit pawns. Forfeit recovery is automatic, but Hawker and Logistician can change what a pawn carries.
  • Plan around schedules. A missing NPC may be following a routine or may have been sent to a morgue after death.
  • Use travel deliberately. Activate permanent Portcrystals, track portable placements, and use Ferrystones only outside battle and away from roofs.
  • Do not infer a universal rule. The existence of storage does not prove that every quest stage reads from it.

What Capcom’s documentation does and does not establish

Capcom clearly documents the existence of item storage, automatic storage recovery when a pawn becomes forfeit, pawn specializations that can modify carried inventory, dynamic quest markers, NPC schedules, morgue locations, and Ferrystone restrictions. Those facts explain most apparent inventory and delivery problems.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

It does not publish a quest-by-quest matrix stating whether an item may remain in storage at every stage. That missing rule is why the safest recommendation is conditional: storage is fine for managing weight, but retrieve the item before the next delivery interaction unless the game has already recorded the objective as complete. This is narrower than saying that stored items never work, and safer than claiming that they always do.
