Start with Performance Mode if it appears in your current PS5 build and responsive combat matters most. Reporting on Capcom’s September 2, 2026 Title Update 3.2 says console Performance Mode can reach 60 fps, but that is an attainable ceiling, not a promise that every scene remains at 60. If lighting atmosphere matters more than motion smoothness, keep Ray Tracing on; if you prefer a cleaner, steadier-feeling image, test it off. Motion Blur is a personal-preference toggle, while the 30 fps cap is useful only if you specifically want a ceiling rather than an uncapped rate.

Recommended starting point on PS5

Open Dragon’s Dogma 2’s Graphics options and record the choices shown on your installed version before changing anything. The exact current PS5 menu has not been fully enumerated in the available October 2026 support material, and PS5 Pro may expose different labels or behavior. Make one change at a time so you can tell which trade-off you actually prefer.

  1. Choose Performance Mode when the option is available and responsiveness is your priority.
  2. Leave Ray Tracing on if richer lighting, especially indoors and at night, is more important than maximum smoothness. Switch it off when frame-rate consistency matters more.
  3. Turn Motion Blur off if camera pans or rapid movement look smeared to you. The documented test does not show that this toggle independently increases frame rate.
  4. Use Variable (uncapped) unless you deliberately prefer a 30 fps ceiling. Patch 1.050 added a Max 30fps choice, but a 2024 hands-on assessment questioned its usefulness in demanding scenes and when the uncapped rate was already above 30.

After applying a setting, walk through the same busy area, rotate the camera quickly, enter an interior, and play a short combat encounter. Those situations reveal different weaknesses: crowded outdoor scenes expose drops, camera turns expose blur, and interiors or nighttime scenes make Ray Tracing’s lighting changes easier to see.

What changed with Title Update 3.2

Windows Central reported that Title Update 3.2 reached PS5, Xbox Series consoles and PC on September 2, 2026. Its console Performance Mode reporting says 60 fps is possible. The detailed maximum-rate statement in that report concerns Xbox, so it should not be treated as a measured or guaranteed PS5 result. TechRadar’s earlier producer comments described Capcom’s aim of enabling a 60 fps console Performance Mode; that is context for the update’s direction, not a PS5 benchmark.

#1 Best Overall
Dragon's Dogma 2 - PS5
  • A Grand Adventure – Dragon’s Dogma 2 begins in a subterranean jail, where the Dragon’s voice echoes in the fog of lost memories.
  • Single-Player Cooperation – Up to three mysterious otherworldly beings, known as Pawns, accompany the Arisen throughout their journey.
  • Made with RE ENGINE – Capcom’s advanced RE ENGINE produces vividly detailed, high fidelity graphics combined with immersive physics and complex and reactive character AI to create a setting where decisions, and their consequences, come to life.
  • Pre-order Bonus: Superior Weapons Quartet

Consequently, “60 fps” should be read as a ceiling your PS5 may approach in suitable scenes, not as a locked output. No independently published current PS5 statistic or controlled post-3.2 PS5 benchmark establishes an average frame rate, a minimum, or a fixed resolution for each mode.

Graphics options and the trade-offs they create

Option What is established Best choice when… Important limitation
Performance Mode A September 2026 update report says console Performance Mode can reach 60 fps. You value quick camera response and combat timing. The ceiling is not a guaranteed locked rate, and the current PS5 mode definition is not fully documented.
Ray Tracing A 2024 PS5 report found better frame rate with Ray Tracing off, but flatter lighting. You prefer either atmospheric lighting (on) or smoother motion (off). The observation predates Title Update 3.2 and is not a current benchmark.
Motion Blur Patch 1.050 added an on/off toggle. You dislike blur during camera movement (off), or you prefer a film-like presentation (on). The cited test does not establish a separate performance gain from changing it.
Frame-rate cap Patch 1.050 added Max 30fps alongside Variable (uncapped). You want a 30 fps ceiling for consistency and accept the lower target. A 2024 assessment questioned its value in demanding scenes; its behavior after 3.2 is not established.
PS5 Pro features Capcom announced PSSR and new ray-tracing technology for the Pro. You own a Pro and want to evaluate its installed options directly. The announcement does not specify the current Pro menu, modes, resolution or frame-rate results.

Performance Mode: the sensible first test

Performance Mode is the clearest choice for players who notice input delay, uneven camera movement or sluggish combat more than small lighting differences. The post-3.2 reporting gives the mode a possible 60 fps ceiling on consoles, which should make motion feel more immediate when the scene and settings allow it.

Do not interpret the 60 fps figure as a guarantee for every location. Dragon’s Dogma 2 can place very different loads on the console in a crowded city, a large battle, a particle-heavy spell effect, an interior and an open road. Because a current controlled PS5 test is not available, the responsible way to judge the mode is by your own installed build after updating.

How to judge it without equipment

  • Stand in a populated settlement and pan across characters, signs and foliage.
  • Run while making repeated 180-degree camera turns; look for uneven pacing rather than a single momentary hitch.
  • Fight a group using effects-heavy abilities, then repeat the test with Ray Tracing off if you are comparing that toggle.
  • Compare the same route with Variable (uncapped) and Max 30fps only if both appear in your menu.

Use the option that feels more controllable during the activities you perform most. A mode that looks impressive in a quiet field may feel less satisfactory during combat or in a dense town.

Ray Tracing: lighting depth versus motion

Ray Tracing is the major documented visual compromise. The 2024 PS5 hands-on report observed a better frame rate with it disabled, while noting flatter lighting, particularly indoors and at night. With Ray Tracing enabled, light and shadow can look more dimensional; with it disabled, the scene may look less atmospheric but can move more smoothly.

Capcom Dragon's Dogma 2 Standard Anglais Playstation 5 [video game]
  • A Grand Adventure – Dragon’s Dogma 2 begins in a subterranean jail, where the Dragon’s voice echoes in the fog of lost memories. With their heart taken by the Dragon, the Arisen is set on a path to slay that symbol of the world’s destruction as it soars through the sky on massive wings, breathing flames that scorch everything in its path. With the Arisen’s future veiled in mystery, what challenges and triumphs await on the path to their destiny?
  • Single-Player Cooperation – Up to three mysterious otherworldly beings, known as Pawns, accompany the Arisen throughout their journey. Pawns create the feeling of a cooperative gameplay experience by offering unique characteristics, skills, and knowledge gained from their experiences with other Arisen.
  • Made with RE ENGINE – Capcom’s advanced RE ENGINE produces vividly detailed, high fidelity graphics combined with immersive physics and complex and reactive character AI to create a setting where decisions, and their consequences, come to life.

That observation is dated. It was made before the September 2026 performance update, so it cannot quantify what your current PS5 gains or loses. Treat the old result as a description of the direction of the trade-off, not as a present-day frame-rate measurement.

Choose Ray Tracing on when

  • You spend time in interiors, caves or nighttime areas and value deeper-looking illumination.
  • You tolerate occasional dips more readily than flatter lighting.
  • Your current Performance Mode feels responsive enough with the option enabled.

Choose Ray Tracing off when

  • You notice judder or inconsistent camera motion before you notice lighting detail.
  • You play primarily during combat, traversal and fast camera movement.
  • You have tested the same location and prefer the clearer motion despite the visual simplification.

Motion Blur: a comfort and clarity setting

Patch 1.050 added an independent Motion Blur toggle on PS5. Disable it if moving the camera produces a smeared image, if text becomes harder to read while turning, or if you are sensitive to blur. Leave it on only when you prefer the softened, cinematic appearance it creates.

There is no evidence in the cited test that Motion Blur off delivers a distinct frame-rate improvement. Change it for image clarity and comfort, not as a guaranteed performance fix. If the game still feels slow after disabling it, evaluate Performance Mode, Ray Tracing and the frame-rate choice instead.

Variable (uncapped) versus Max 30fps

Patch 1.050 documented two frame-rate choices: Variable (uncapped) and Max 30fps. Variable allows the game to run above 30 when the scene permits. Max 30fps imposes a 30 fps ceiling, which can make a fluctuating presentation feel more uniform for some players but necessarily limits responsiveness compared with rates above 30.

A 2024 hands-on report questioned the cap’s usefulness in demanding scenes and when the uncapped option exceeded 30 fps. That assessment predates Title Update 3.2, so it should not be presented as a definitive description of current behavior. Test both choices in the same area if your menu offers them.

Dragons Dogma 2 - PS5
  • The deep, explorable fantasy world of Dragon's Dogma... Dragon's Dogma is a narrative-driven, single-player action RPG that challenges players to shape their own experience—from the appearance of their Arisen, their vocation, and their party, to how they approach various situations and much more.

Use Max 30fps only for a clear reason

  • Select it if you strongly prefer a 30 fps ceiling and find uncapped fluctuations distracting.
  • Do not select it expecting a universal fix for every hitch; the available evidence does not establish that result.
  • Return to Variable (uncapped) if the lower ceiling makes aiming, camera turns or combat timing feel noticeably less responsive.

Base PS5 and PS5 Pro: do not assume identical results

Capcom said Dragon’s Dogma 2 would benefit from PS5 Pro hardware, PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) and new ray-tracing technology, “allowing improved framerates.” The statement, attributed on the PlayStation Blog to Capcom USA Social Media & Community Manager Joseph Bustos, does not list the current Pro graphics menu or specify resolution, frame-rate targets or which toggles are exposed.

Therefore, compare the actual options shown on each console rather than assuming the base PS5 and Pro share labels or outcomes. Check the system and game update status, open Graphics on each installation, and note whether Performance Mode, Ray Tracing, Motion Blur and frame-rate choices are present. A Pro enhancement announcement alone cannot establish a controlled base-versus-Pro result.

A practical decision guide

If responsiveness is your top priority

Use Performance Mode where available, start with Ray Tracing off, keep Motion Blur off if it obscures movement, and use Variable (uncapped). Re-test a demanding town and a combat encounter after every change.

If atmosphere is your top priority

Keep Ray Tracing on and compare Performance Mode with the other mode your menu provides. Leave Motion Blur according to your visual preference. Accept that the available evidence does not promise a locked frame rate.

If you are sensitive to uneven motion

Try Max 30fps, but judge it against Variable (uncapped) in the same demanding area. The cap may feel more consistent to you, yet the 2024 evaluation found circumstances where it was not clearly useful; current post-3.2 PS5 behavior remains unmeasured in the cited sources.

Troubleshooting after changing settings

The game still feels choppy

Confirm that Title Update 3.2 and any later game patches are installed. Verify which mode is actually selected in Graphics, then test Ray Tracing off. Because 60 fps is only a reported ceiling, continued drops do not contradict the update’s claim.

The image looks too flat

Turn Ray Tracing back on and compare an interior or nighttime scene. If the lighting improvement matters more than motion, the visual trade-off may be worthwhile.

Camera movement looks smeared

Disable Motion Blur. This addresses the blur effect itself; it is not a documented frame-rate upgrade.

Menus do not match advice found online

Check your patch version and console model. The current PS5 support FAQ was marked updated October 12, 2026, but its retrieved content does not enumerate the graphics settings or explain the latest performance update. Menu labels can therefore differ from older guides, and PS5 Pro options should not be inferred from base-PS5 screenshots.

What is still unknown

The available current reporting does not provide a complete PS5 graphics-menu inventory, fixed resolution targets, frame-time data, average or minimum frame rates, or a controlled scene-by-scene comparison after Title Update 3.2. It also does not establish whether every PS5 model exposes identical Performance Mode behavior. Treat personal testing on your installed version as the deciding evidence, and describe the reported 60 fps as a ceiling rather than a lock.
