Pawn Quests are requests attached to your Main Pawn for another player to complete while that Pawn is hired. You choose the task—earning a Pawn Badge or acquiring an item—then offer gold or an item as the reward. The setting is separate from marking your own quest as a priority and from the hand-shaped knowledge markers beside quests.
What a Pawn Quest does
A Pawn Quest is an outbound request from your Main Pawn to another Arisen. When another player hires that Pawn, the request appears as an objective for the hiring player. If that player completes it, the reward you selected is paid from your game.
The available request types described by current walkthroughs are:

- Acquire Item: the hired player obtains a specified item and quantity.
You then choose what the other player receives. The reward can be gold or an item, with an amount or quantity selected during setup. This is an actual inventory commitment, not a cosmetic message: the requested item and the offered reward need to be available, and the reward is consumed when another player fulfills the request.

Replacing an existing Pawn Quest also has a cost. The setup guide warns that an unclaimed reward from the previous quest can be lost when you replace that quest, so collect or otherwise account for the earlier result before changing the request.
How to set a Pawn Quest
The following sequence is the guide-reported setup flow. Menu wording and availability can vary with the current game version, so use the labels shown by your game if they differ slightly.
- Reach a Riftstone or complete a rest-and-return cycle. Walk up to a Riftstone and interact with it. The walkthrough describes opening the interaction again to reach the Pawn Quest option. Alternatively, the option can appear when your Main Pawn returns after you rest at an inn or at a home.
- Choose Set a Pawn Quest. This is the menu entry for the request attached to your Main Pawn. It is not the command for selecting your own priority quest.
- Select the request type. Choose Earn a Pawn Badge or Acquire Item.
- Define the target. For a badge request, select the applicable badge objective offered by the menu. For an item request, select the target item and its quantity.
- Select the reward. Choose gold or an item for the other player. Set the gold amount or item quantity when prompted.
- Check your inventory before confirming. Make sure the requested item, if applicable, and the reward are present. The reward is spent when the request is fulfilled, and replacing a request can forfeit an unclaimed earlier reward.
- Confirm the Pawn Quest. The request is now associated with your Main Pawn and can be encountered by a player who hires it.
- Rest again to receive the report. When your Pawn has returned, rest at an inn or home if necessary to synchronize the return and view the result described by the guide.
No special accessory, consumable, printed guide, or separate service is required to configure the setting. The relevant interaction is part of the game’s Pawn and Riftstone systems.
Why the Pawn Quest option may not be available yet
Prima Games reports that a newly created Pawn may first receive a default travel-related quest. In that flow, a player who hires the Pawn must travel with it for the specified day or night period before custom requests become available. The hiring player then rests at an inn or home so the Pawn can return and report its experience.

The source does not establish a universal number of hours or a single unlock level. If the custom option is missing, complete the default travel request as presented in your game, let the hired Pawn return, and rest to trigger the return update. Check the current menu wording rather than assuming that every platform or save displays the option at the same point.
Pawn Quest versus priority quest and pawn knowledge
These systems are easy to confuse because both involve Pawns and quest information, but they affect different players and have different outcomes.

Marking a quest as your priority tells your own party what objective you are pursuing. A quest-aware Pawn may point you toward a location or provide advice. It does not publish a request for another player and does not deduct a reward from your inventory.

Capcom’s official support FAQ defines the markers in the quest list as information indicators:

- Hourglass: “An hourglass marker indicates that the quest is available for a limited time only.”
- Blue marker: “A blue marker indicates that your Main Pawn can lead you on this quest or have some useful information.”
- Orange marker with I: “An orange marker with ‘I’ indicates that your first support pawn can lead you on this quest or have some useful information.”
- Orange marker with II: “An orange marker with ‘II’ indicates that your second pawn can lead you on this quest or have some useful information.”
These symbols appear beside quests in your own quest information. They do not show that you have created a custom Pawn Quest, do not identify the reward attached to your Main Pawn, and do not mean that another player has accepted your request.
How Pawn Badges improve guidance
Pawn knowledge works independently of the reward transaction. Capcom’s official manual states, “Pawns with badges are more helpful to the Arisen in word and in deed.” Monster badges are earned after defeating a certain number of a monster type. Field badges are earned after camping sufficiently in a region. The manual material does not establish one universal threshold for every badge.
As a Pawn gains regional and monster knowledge, it can provide more useful advice and guidance. That knowledge is why a Pawn may recognize a quest location or suggest a tactic even when no Pawn Quest is active. Hiring a Pawn for its badges is therefore a party-building choice, whereas setting a Pawn Quest is a request-and-reward transaction for the player who hires it.

Gold rewards
A gold reward lets the hired player receive a specified amount when the request is completed. Select the amount during setup and confirm that your available funds meet the requirement shown by the game.

Item rewards
An item reward requires you to supply the item and quantity chosen in the setup menu. Do not confirm until the item is in your inventory. The reward is not merely promised; it is removed when another player fulfills the request.
Requested items
For an Acquire Item request, select the target and quantity the other player must obtain. The setup guide describes choosing both values before selecting the reward.
Changing an active request
Changing the request can discard an unclaimed reward from the previous one. If you are experimenting with different objectives, check the returning Pawn’s report and claim what is due before replacing the quest.
Troubleshooting the common setup problems
The Set a Pawn Quest entry is missing
First complete any default travel-related request shown for the Pawn. A hired player may need to travel with it for the specified day or night period, and you may need to rest at an inn or home before the custom menu appears. If the entry remains absent, recheck the Riftstone interaction and the Pawn’s return state in the current game version.

The game will not let you confirm an item reward
Check both the selected quantity and your inventory. The guide reports that requested items and offered rewards must be available. Reduce the quantity or obtain the missing item before confirming.
A previous reward disappeared after changing the quest
The setup guide warns that replacing a quest can lose an unclaimed previous reward. Treat a quest change as a replacement, not an edit that preserves every pending payout.
The Pawn has returned but no report is visible
Rest at an inn or home to trigger the return and synchronization flow described by the guides. Then inspect the Pawn information again. The exact prompt can differ by platform or game update.
A hand icon appears beside my quest
Use the color and label to identify which Pawn has knowledge: blue for your Main Pawn, orange I for the first support Pawn, and orange II for the second. An hourglass means the quest is time-limited. None of these markers is the custom Pawn Quest setting.
Platform and version qualifications
Capcom’s PlayStation 5 FAQ confirms a PS5 version and says the basic game contents are the same across versions, while hardware-specific differences can exist. The procedural setup descriptions come from third-party guides published in March 2024, and Capcom’s official FAQ documents the marker meanings rather than the full custom-request sequence. If a current update uses different labels or unlock timing, follow the text shown in your installed version.
