In Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, relics—also called spoils—are unidentified rewards found from enemies and exploration in Norgan. They cannot be used as equipment until you take them to Jiera at the Norgandian Settlement and pay Rift Crystals (RC) for an appraisal. An introductory level-one Light Weaponry spoil costs 15 RC in the reported walkthrough, can become a sword, daggers or a censer, and rolls a random special skill.
The important distinction is that finding a spoil and revealing it are separate steps. You can carry the unidentified item for a while, but it contributes to your party’s carry weight and tells you little about the final reward. The reliable loop is therefore Norgan exploration, a return to the settlement, Jiera’s appraisal dialogue, and then a decision about whether to keep, store or sell what the appraisal reveals.
The relic system in one loop
The practical route is:
- Find an unidentified relic or spoil while fighting or exploring Norgan.
- Carry it back to the Norgandian Settlement.
- Speak with Jiera and choose Tell me of relics.
- Select the spoil, review its displayed RC price, and choose Appraise.
- Manage the revealed result by taking, storing, selling or otherwise handling it through the game’s item options.
VGC describes spoils as the expansion’s gear-reward system. They can come from defeated enemies and from exploration sources such as chests and other gathering points, and they add to your carry weight before appraisal. The guide therefore recommends returning to the settlement periodically rather than allowing unidentified items to accumulate in an already heavy inventory. VGC’s October 8, 2026 explanation also reports that appraisal can reveal outcomes beyond equipment, including Norgan Ducats, curatives, gold and rare scrolls.

Where do I find a relic?
General sources in Norgan
There is no verified complete relic map or published drop-rate table in the available guides. The supported categories are enemies and exploration loot: defeat creatures, open chests and investigate gathering points as you travel through Norgan. Treat each unidentified spoil as a possible reward rather than assuming that a particular enemy, chest or region guarantees a particular weapon.
Exploration is therefore as important as combat. A chest or other gathering point can be worth checking even when you are not following the introductory quest, while enemies may leave a spoil after a fight. The coverage does not identify a single best farming circuit, a guaranteed monster drop or a fixed chest rotation, so avoid guides or claims that promise a complete route unless the game itself gives you that information.
Relic terminology is not perfectly consistent. Launch coverage uses both “relic” and “spoil” for unidentified rewards, while the detailed introductory quest calls its item Spoils: Lv 1, Light Weaponry. In practical terms, both labels refer to an item that must be appraised before you know what it is.

An early level-one spoil at Valgr Ravine
The clearest early route comes from the Relics of the Past walkthrough. After starting the quest in the Norgandian Settlement, travel to Valgr Ravine and search the pool beneath the second waterfall. The target is a sunken wreck of crates and clay jars beside a boulder. It contains the named item Spoils: Lv 1, Light Weaponry.
Several nearby objects are deliberately easy to confuse with the target. The walkthrough distinguishes a damaged cart at the lakeshore and another shattered cart beside the stream from the sunken wreck in the waterfall pool. Beorcans and direwolves in the area can be bypassed; killing them is not required to collect this quest item.
Use the landmarks in order rather than searching every container at the lake. From the settlement, the route leads through the ruined archway, downhill toward the lake and along the stream. The first waterfall is only a reference point; continue to the second waterfall, then inspect the pool and the wreck close to the boulder. If you stop at the first waterfall or investigate the cart on the shore, you have not reached the documented pickup.
Relics of the Past: exact walkthrough
1. Start the quest in the settlement
AllThingsHow’s walkthrough, updated October 12, 2026, says the quest becomes available after Chilling Tidings in the Norgandian Settlement. Jiera sits by a wooden house near the bonfire. Talk to her to receive the objective to obtain a relic.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesIf the objective is not appearing, check that Chilling Tidings has been completed and that you have spoken to Jiera at the settlement rather than searching Valgr Ravine first. The documented route treats the conversation as the quest start, so arriving at the waterfall without accepting the objective can make the pickup harder to identify in your journal.
2. Follow the route to Valgr Ravine
- Leave the settlement through the ruined stone archway.
- Follow the road downhill toward the lake.
- Continue along the stream past the first waterfall.
- At the second waterfall, enter the pool below it.
- Search around the boulder for the sunken wreck of crates and clay jars.
- Collect Spoils: Lv 1, Light Weaponry.
If you reach a damaged cart on the lakeshore or a shattered cart beside the stream, you are looking at the wrong container. Reorient toward the second waterfall pool and inspect the wreck under the waterline.
The route description does not require a combat clear. Beorcans and direwolves may be present, but the walkthrough says they can be run past. This is useful if your immediate goal is the spoil itself or if you want to avoid adding combat time before returning to Jiera. Nothing in the walkthrough says those enemies must be defeated for the wreck to contain the item.

3. Return to Jiera
Travel back to the Norgandian Settlement and speak with Jiera again. Select Tell me of relics; this is the conversation path that opens the appraisal screen for the quest item.
Returning promptly also addresses the weight issue. Since unidentified spoils count toward carry weight, there is little advantage to carrying the quest item through additional fights once you have collected it. Use the settlement as the handoff point: talk to Jiera, reveal the item, and then decide whether the result belongs with your current party.
4. Confirm the appraisal
The walkthrough reports that Jiera supplies 300 RC for the first appraisal. The example level-one Light Weaponry spoil displays a 15 RC appraisal cost. Select the spoil, confirm the displayed charge, and choose Appraise. The game then shows the revealed item and provides the normal inventory-management choices.
Read the amount on this screen instead of relying on a remembered price. The 15 RC value belongs to the documented example, and the available coverage does not establish a universal fee for every level or spoil type. Jiera’s 300 RC support likewise belongs to the first-appraisal sequence in that walkthrough; it should not be treated as a permanent allowance for every later transaction.
5. Finish the quest and account for the random result
AllThingsHow lists 3,000 XP as the quest-completion reward. The revealed weapon is not fixed: the item description says, “Timeworn arms of an ancient war. Have them appraised to obtain a sword, daggers, or censer.” The special skill is random, so a walkthrough showing one particular weapon is an example roll, not a guaranteed outcome.
Complete the appraisal before judging whether the quest was worthwhile. The objective is to obtain and appraise a relic, not to guarantee a specific vocation’s best weapon. If the result is not useful to your current character, the post-appraisal options still let you manage it as an inventory item rather than leaving the spoil unidentified and taking up weight.
Where do I appraise relics?
Jiera is the appraisal contact, and the Norgandian Settlement is the place to use her service. There is no second provider or alternate appraisal station established by the available guides. If you are carrying an unidentified spoil and cannot find an appraisal option elsewhere, return to the settlement and use Jiera’s Tell me of relics dialogue.
NoobFeed’s October 10, 2026 guide likewise describes returning to the settlement and paying Jiera Rift Crystals. The specific dialogue wording and the introductory route are documented most explicitly in the AllThingsHow walkthrough.
There is no indication that a random camp, ordinary merchant or another settlement resident can perform the same service. If a spoil is visible in your inventory but no appraisal command appears, the safest documented fix is to travel back to the Norgandian Settlement and speak directly with Jiera, using the relic-specific dialogue rather than a generic interaction.

What does the first appraisal cost?
| Figure | What it refers to | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| 300 RC | Rift Crystals Jiera supplies for the first appraisal in the introductory walkthrough | Reported quest-example support, not a universal allowance for every appraisal |
| 15 RC | Displayed price for the example Spoils: Lv 1, Light Weaponry | Guide-verified example cost; check the value shown in your own appraisal screen |
| 3,000 XP | Quest-completion reward listed for Relics of the Past | Walkthrough figure for that quest, not an appraisal reward rate |
The 15 RC price should not be generalized to every spoil. The available coverage does not establish exact costs by level or type, nor does it show a fixed relationship between price and the quality of the eventual roll. Always read the amount on the current appraisal screen before confirming.

Think of RC as the transaction cost for revealing uncertainty. A higher displayed price may be relevant to your budget, but the guides do not prove that it guarantees a better weapon, a preferred skill or even an equipment reward. Keep enough RC for other appraisals if you plan to continue exploring, and do not spend crystals simply because an unidentified item has been occupying your inventory.
What can a relic become?
Equipment is only one possible result
The early Light Weaponry example can resolve into a sword, daggers or a censer. Its special skill is randomized. VGC additionally reports randomized equipment statistics and non-gear possibilities such as Norgan Ducats, curatives, gold and rare scrolls. Consequently, neither the item’s name nor its category guarantees a single weapon model, statistic line or skill.
That range explains why the appraisal screen matters more than the unidentified label. “Light Weaponry” narrows the type of result described by the quest item, but it does not let you select sword, daggers or censer in advance. The same principle applies to the random special skill and to the reported non-gear outcomes. Plan around possibilities, not a promised drop.
Why a guide’s screenshot may not match yours
Appraisal is a roll, not a crafting recipe. Two players can appraise the same named spoil and receive different equipment details, and one player may receive a non-gear reward where another expected a weapon. Do not reload or spend RC expecting the source item to produce a prescribed “best” result unless a later, authoritative game update documents such behavior; the reviewed guides do not establish any fixed outcome or reroll rule.
A different result is not evidence that you picked up the wrong item. The item description itself lists several possible weapon categories, and the special skill is explicitly random in the walkthrough. Compare your result with the possibilities, then use the available take, store or sell choices according to your build and inventory rather than trying to match a screenshot exactly.
Which spoils should you appraise first?
Because exact odds and tier pricing are not published in the available material, use a practical priority check rather than treating a higher level or higher cost as a promise of better equipment.
| Check before confirming | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Displayed RC cost | Confirms that you can afford the transaction and prevents spending crystals reserved for another purpose. |
| Level and spoil type | Helps you understand what the item is presented as, while recognizing that the final result remains variable. |
| Current vocation and build | A sword, daggers or censer may fit different characters; appraise when you can use or evaluate the possible category. |
| Inventory capacity | Unidentified spoils add carry weight, so returning to the settlement can be more useful than continuing to collect while encumbered. |
| Available RC | Leave enough crystals for other appraisals or game needs instead of assuming the first displayed item is the only worthwhile use. |
This is a decision aid, not a quality ranking. No reviewed source supplies drop probabilities, a complete tier comparison or evidence that the most expensive appraisal always produces the strongest item.
For an early player, the documented level-one spoil is a sensible first test because the quest supplies 300 RC in the walkthrough and the example charge is only 15 RC. That does not make it a guaranteed upgrade; it simply gives you a clearly described way to learn the system with a known example cost. For later spoils, compare the displayed fee with your RC balance and ask whether the possible category is relevant to the vocation you are currently using.
What to do immediately after appraisal
Once Jiera reveals the item, pause to identify what the game has actually awarded. If it is equipment, check its weapon category, randomized statistics and special skill against your current needs. If the result is Norgan Ducats, a curative, gold or a rare scroll, it is a reward rather than a failed appraisal. The guides do not describe a separate process for converting those outcomes, so handle them through the ordinary item options shown by the game.
The result can be taken, stored or sold according to the choices presented. Storing an item is useful when the category might suit another character later, while selling or otherwise managing an unwanted result can reduce pressure on your inventory. The key point is that appraisal changes an unidentified spoil into a normal result you can evaluate; leaving it unidentified gives you neither its stats nor its final reward category.

Common problems and fixes
“I have a spoil, but it is not usable.”
That is expected before appraisal. Spoils are unidentified rewards; take them to Jiera and use Tell me of relics to reveal the result.
“Jiera does not offer appraisal.”
For the introductory route, the quest begins after Chilling Tidings. Make sure you have spoken to Jiera near the bonfire and accepted the obtain-a-relic objective. Then use the specific Tell me of relics dialogue rather than a general conversation option.
“I cannot find the quest item at the lake.”
Check the second waterfall pool in Valgr Ravine, not the first waterfall, lakeshore cart or shattered cart by the stream. Search the sunken crates and clay jars near the boulder. Nearby beorcans and direwolves do not need to be defeated to collect it.
“The appraisal costs more or less than 15 RC.”
The 15 RC figure belongs to the reported level-one Light Weaponry example. Other costs have not been established as a universal rate. Use the amount displayed for the selected spoil in your game.
“The result is not the weapon shown in a guide.”
The sword, daggers and censer are possible outcomes for the example, not three guaranteed items in a set order. The special skill and equipment statistics are randomized, and guides also report possible non-gear rewards.

“My party is becoming overburdened.”
VGC notes that spoils contribute carry weight. Return to the Norgandian Settlement, appraise or otherwise manage the items, and avoid treating every unidentified reward as weightless until you reach Jiera.
“Can I choose the skill or weapon type?”
The documented example does not provide a choice menu for sword, daggers or censer, and it describes the special skill as random. Select the spoil and appraise it, then work with the result the game reveals.
“Is a higher-cost spoil guaranteed to be better?”
No such guarantee is established. The guides do not publish a complete price table, drop probabilities or a fixed link between RC cost and quality. Treat the displayed price as a budget consideration, not a promise of a stronger roll.
“Do I have to kill the enemies near the wreck?”
Not for the documented pickup. The walkthrough says the nearby beorcans and direwolves can be run past, so defeating them is not required to collect the level-one spoil at the second waterfall pool.

The current guide coverage supports the Norgan-to-settlement-to-Jiera loop, enemy and exploration sources, the Valgr Ravine quest pickup, and variable appraisal results. The official manual pages surfaced in the reviewed material describe base-game features but do not provide a Dark Arisen relic-appraisal manual. For that reason, treat the RC figures and quest details above as in-game values reported by the cited walkthrough, and verify them on your own screen if a later patch changes the system.
That limitation matters when comparing community claims. A screenshot can document one player’s sword, dagger, censer or non-gear result, but it cannot establish the full outcome table. Likewise, a single 15 RC transaction cannot establish every tier’s fee. Use the named route and the on-screen appraisal price as firm practical references, while treating unlisted odds, maps and guarantees as unconfirmed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where do I find a relic in Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen?
Relics or spoils are found through enemy defeats and exploration loot such as chests and gathering points in Norgan. The documented early quest pickup is Spoils: Lv 1, Light Weaponry, in the sunken wreck near the boulder in the pool below Valgr Ravine’s second waterfall.
Where do I appraise relics?
Return to the Norgandian Settlement and speak with Jiera. Choose Tell me of relics, select the unidentified spoil, review its displayed Rift Crystal cost and choose Appraise.
What does the first appraisal cost?
The introductory walkthrough reports that Jiera supplies 300 RC for the first appraisal, while its level-one Light Weaponry example displays a 15 RC charge. Those are quest-example figures, not confirmed universal prices.
What can the level-one Light Weaponry spoil become?
The documented item description says it can produce a sword, daggers or a censer. The special skill and equipment statistics are randomized, and guides also report possible non-gear rewards.
Do I need to defeat the beorcans and direwolves near the wreck?
No. The walkthrough says those enemies can be bypassed; defeating them is not required to collect the spoil from the second waterfall pool.
Recommended Free Tools
Why can’t I use my spoil as equipment?
A spoil is unidentified until Jiera appraises it. Return to the Norgandian Settlement, use Tell me of relics and complete the RC transaction before evaluating the revealed result.
Does a more expensive appraisal guarantee better gear?
No guarantee is established. The available guides do not provide complete tier pricing, drop probabilities or proof that a higher RC cost produces a stronger weapon or preferred skill.
Why is my result different from a guide’s screenshot?
Appraisal is randomized. The same named spoil can produce different weapon details, skills or even a reported non-gear reward, so a screenshot is an example rather than a fixed outcome.
The Bottom Line
Find spoils from enemies and exploration in Norgan, then return to Jiera at the Norgandian Settlement. For the early Relics of the Past route, search the wreck below Valgr Ravine’s second waterfall; the reported example costs 15 RC after Jiera supplies 300 RC. Appraisal results—including weapon type, statistics, skill and reward category—are randomized, so use the price shown on your own screen and keep expectations flexible.
