Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen launched on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 9, 2026, combining the original game with a new expansion. Early post-launch reporting suggests that the port can deliver a playable experience, but not without visible compromises: one review reported an average near 45 frames per second with frame generation enabled, alongside occasional resolution changes and pop-in. That is not enough evidence to call it the first, or definitively the best, “impossible port” of this generation.
What’s included in the Switch 2 release?
Capcom describes Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen as a package containing the original Dragon’s Dogma 2 and the paid Dark Arisen expansion. The expansion adds a story set in the northern region of Norgan, along with new adventure and dungeon content, according to Nintendo’s launch announcement. Capcom announced the Switch 2 edition alongside releases for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in its June 10, 2026 release announcement.

New players can also prepare before starting the full game. Nintendo says the separate Character Creator & Storage app lets players create an Arisen and Pawns, then carry that data into the game.
How does it run on Switch 2?
The available performance reports describe different builds and conditions, so they should not be treated as a direct before-and-after benchmark. Ahead of launch, developers Kento Kinoshita and Yoshiaki Hirabayashi said the Gamescom demo was not final, optimization was continuing, and the game was already clearing 30 frames per second. That was a pre-release update, not a promise of a fixed retail frame rate.

After launch, MeriStation reported an average near 45 frames per second with frame generation enabled. Its review described 1440p docked and 1080p handheld output, while also noting occasional resolution changes and pop-in. These are that outlet’s observations of its review build and settings, not results from a controlled cross-platform test. See MeriStation’s review.
What those numbers do—and don’t—tell you
- The pre-launch 30-fps figure describes a non-final Gamescom demo during ongoing optimization.
- The near-45-fps average describes one post-launch review with frame generation enabled; it should not be generalized to play with frame generation off.
- The reported output resolutions do not, by themselves, establish image sharpness or consistent internal rendering resolution, particularly when the reviewer also observed resolution changes.
- The available report does not provide a controlled comparison of frame pacing, scenes, or image quality against the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or PC editions.
Is it really the first “impossible port”?
“Impossible port” is a headline description, not a technical category with a defined test. Capcom did bring the game to Switch 2; its June 10 announcement said, “Capcom will also bring the title to Nintendo Switch™ 2 for the first time.” That establishes the platform release, but not that the conversion was objectively impossible, the first of its kind, or the most demanding Switch 2 port.

- A cinematic take on the Star Fox 64 story, featuring fully voiced dialogue, an epic orchestral soundtrack, and a complete visual overhaul for the Nintendo Switch 2 system
- Enter first-person mode to experience the action from inside the cockpit, and even use mouse controls to fly
- Invite a second player* to join you as a gunner using Nintendo Switch 2 mouse controls
The strongest supported conclusion is narrower: the game was brought to Switch 2, and an early review reported performance near 45 frames per second under a frame-generation-enabled setup, with some visual fluctuation and pop-in. A firm technical verdict would require reproducible testing across the retail build, including frame-generation on and off, docked and handheld play, and comparable scenes on other platforms. Without that, “impossible” works as a question to investigate, not a proven ranking.

What should prospective players weigh?
The clearest case for this edition is having the base game and Dark Arisen expansion together on a portable system. The trade-off, based on the limited post-launch evidence available, is that performance and image consistency are not fully characterized: the reported average depends on frame generation, and the reviewer noticed resolution changes and pop-in. Players who prioritize portability may find that compromise acceptable; those who want a measured comparison with other editions should wait for more controlled testing rather than treating one early review as a platform-wide verdict.
