Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is the Switch 2 release that combines the original Dragon’s Dogma 2 with its new expansion content. It launched on October 9, 2026, in both packaged and download editions. For the digital version, plan for approximately 54 GB of free space, but check your regional Nintendo eShop listing and the console’s installation prompt because Nintendo’s own listings currently show both 49.5 GB and 54.0 GB estimated. The packaged edition is confirmed, yet official material does not say how much data is actually on its game card.
What is the Switch 2 version?
Capcom calls the Switch 2 product Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen. It is a paid expansion release that adds a new story to Dragon’s Dogma 2, the game that launched in March 2024. On Switch 2, the main game and the new expansion are sold together as one title rather than as separate purchases.
Capcom’s release announcement set the Switch 2 launch date at October 9, 2026. The company also confirmed two Switch 2 formats: a packaged retail edition and a downloadable edition. On PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, the new content is offered as expansion DLC instead of this combined Switch 2 package.
Capcom describes the product as follows: “Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is a paid expansion title that adds a new story to Dragon’s Dogma 2, which was released in March 2024.” That wording matters when you are checking store pages: look for the Dark Arisen subtitle, not merely a listing for the 2024 base game.

How much storage does the download need?
The safest planning figure is about 54 GB of free console or card storage. Nintendo’s official New Zealand eShop page has displayed two different values for the same game: one rendering shows 49.5 GB under required space, while another current rendering shows 54.0 GB estimated. Because the figures conflict, neither should be treated as a guaranteed final installation size.
Why the number can differ
eShop information can be rendered differently as listings are updated, and Nintendo labels the 54.0 GB value an estimate. Nintendo also warns that the amount of free space needed for an installation may be more or less than the displayed requirement. The download can therefore require a different amount from the figure you saw in a search result or on another regional storefront.
What to have ready
- Reserve roughly 54 GB before starting the download, rather than planning around the lower 49.5 GB figure.
- Keep additional breathing room above the estimate so the system can create temporary installation data.
- Before buying or downloading, open the live eShop page for your account’s country and read the space requirement shown there.
- After you begin, follow the free-space amount reported by the Switch 2 installation screen; that prompt is the immediate requirement for your console.
These figures describe the digital listing, not a verified amount of data stored on the packaged game card.

How to check and create enough space on Switch 2
Check free storage first
- Open System Settings from the Switch 2 HOME Menu.
- Choose Data Management and review the available space in the console’s internal storage and any inserted microSD Express card.
- Open the regional Nintendo eShop page for Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen and compare its current estimate with the space shown on the console.
- Start the download only when the available amount comfortably exceeds the displayed requirement.
Free internal storage
If the console reports insufficient room, Nintendo’s guidance is to delete software you no longer need or add compatible storage. Deleting a game’s software does not automatically mean you must discard its save data, but review the on-screen data-management choices carefully before confirming any deletion.
Use the correct expansion card
Switch 2 uses microSD Express cards for expandable storage. A conventional microSD card that worked in an earlier Switch model is not the format to plan around for this installation. Nintendo’s listing recommends adding a card with sufficient capacity when internal space is inadequate, but the evidence does not establish a particular capacity or brand for this game.
Insert the card, let the console format or prepare it if prompted, and then recheck System Settings > Data Management. The eShop should use available compatible storage when you select the download location. Do not assume that a card’s advertised capacity will equal its usable space; the console reserves some capacity for system data.

Digital download versus packaged edition
Both formats are official Switch 2 releases, but they solve different practical problems. Digital buyers must plan around the uncertain eShop estimate. Physical buyers get a retail package, yet the reviewed official announcements do not identify the card format or state how much of the game is present on the card.

What is known about the physical game card?
Capcom confirms that a packaged Switch 2 edition exists. However, the official information reviewed does not say whether the card contains the complete game, uses another card format, or requires a substantial download. It is therefore not accurate to label it a standard full-data cartridge or a Game-Key Card based only on the announcement.
Nintendo’s general support guidance says that a game may need update data and directs customers to the title’s official page or the package for game-specific storage requirements. That general warning does not prove that Dark Arisen requires an update or download, nor does it reveal how much data is on this particular card.

How to verify before buying physical
- Read the current retail listing and the back of the package for any statement such as “download required,” an internet requirement, or a minimum storage amount.
- Check the publisher’s current product information for the exact Switch 2 edition, not a listing for another platform or the 2024 base game.
- If playing from a card without a large download is essential, wait for a reliable hands-on report or retailer photograph that clearly identifies the card contents.
- Keep some microSD Express capacity available anyway, because patches or additional data can be required even when a game is sold physically.
Until Capcom, Nintendo or the package itself specifies the contents, buyers should treat the card-data question as unresolved rather than assuming either a complete-card release or a download-only key.

Installation problems and practical fixes
The eShop says there is not enough space
Compare the console’s free-space reading with the amount shown on the current regional listing. If the margin is small, delete unused software or move the installation to a compatible microSD Express card with adequate usable capacity. Recheck the requirement after the console has completed any system update.
The listing shows a different size from an article or search result
Use the live regional eShop page and the installation prompt as your authority. The 49.5 GB and 54.0 GB values are both observed renderings of Nintendo’s New Zealand listing, not two separate editions. Do not infer that one number is a patch size or that the lower value is always sufficient.
A physical copy asks for a download
Read the package wording and the console message before cancelling. The reviewed official sources do not establish whether this title’s card requires an additional download, so the on-screen prompt for your region and edition is the decisive information. Ensure the console is connected to the internet and has enough microSD Express space if the prompt specifies extra data.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

- Confirm that the console has a stable internet connection and enough free space for the amount currently requested.
- Check for a pending Switch 2 system update, then retry from the eShop’s download queue.
- If internal storage is full, remove unused software or prepare a microSD Express card before restarting.
- Do not remove the card during an active write or installation; wait for the console to report completion.
Which edition should you choose?
Choose digital when
- You want the game installed permanently and have internal or microSD Express storage comfortably above the current estimate.
- You are comfortable checking the live eShop requirement because the published figures are inconsistent.
- You do not need a physical package for resale, collection or lending.
Choose packaged when
- You prefer a boxed Switch 2 release or want to avoid committing to a large initial download.
- You can verify the package’s card and download requirements before purchase.
- You have some expandable storage available for updates or supplemental data if the package calls for it.
The most storage-conscious decision cannot be made from the existence of the retail box alone: the card contents have not been specified in the official material reviewed. If avoiding a large download is your deciding factor, verify that detail at the point of purchase.
Bottom line for Switch 2 owners
Buy or search for Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, the October 9, 2026 Switch 2 package that combines the base game and new expansion. For a download, prepare approximately 54 GB, then confirm the live regional eShop listing and the console’s installation prompt because Nintendo has shown both 49.5 GB and 54.0 GB estimated. Use only microSD Express for expansion storage. A packaged edition definitely exists, but its card contents and any required additional download remain unspecified, so check the package or a dependable current report before relying on it as a low-download option.
