The best Dragon’s Dogma 2 inventory setup is a routine, not a hidden toggle: carry only the consumables and equipment you expect to use before the next settlement, keep crafting stock and spare gear in storage, and check both the Arisen’s and pawns’ inventories after every transfer or pawn change. Speak to an innkeeper to open storage. Since the June 26, 2024 update, you can sell items from storage and equip armor from storage, including while changing vocation at a vocation guild.
That loop controls weight without sacrificing useful loot. It also accounts for pawn specializations that can move or sell items, the automatic return of items held by a forfeit pawn, and the difference between camping and an inn rest for save recovery.
The practical inventory loop
Dragon’s Dogma 2 does not require you to carry every material you collect. Treat your inventory as a field kit and storage as a stockroom:
- Before departure: leave long-term crafting materials, duplicate weapons and armor, and surplus valuables in storage. Keep a small set of healing, stamina, curing and travel items on the character most likely to use them.
- During exploration: pick up useful loot, but avoid turning every character into a warehouse. If weight starts limiting movement, move items to a pawn only temporarily and remember to check that pawn later.
- At an inn or dwelling: deposit materials and spare equipment, sell what you no longer need, and equip upgrades directly from storage when appropriate.
- After a party change: inspect the Arisen’s inventory and every pawn’s inventory. Do this after hiring, dismissing, transferring items or equipment, or changing vocation.
This is a conservative management habit rather than a claim about a hidden game setting. The official documentation establishes how storage and certain pawn behaviors work; it does not publish a universal “best” auto-sort or item-destination configuration.

How to open and use storage
Open storage through an innkeeper
Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma 2 FAQ says in-game storage is viewed through the menu opened by speaking with an innkeeper. Bonus items also appear in in-game storage. The exact menu presentation can differ by platform or version, but the reliable access point is the innkeeper interaction.
- Go to an inn in a settlement.
- Speak to the innkeeper.
- Choose the storage option in the resulting menu.
- Deposit materials, spare equipment and excess consumables before leaving the screen.
- Review the Arisen’s and pawns’ inventories when you finish, especially if you moved an item between characters.
Storage is also available through dwellings where the game provides an inn-style rest and storage interaction. If a location does not show the storage choice, use a known inn rather than assuming the items have vanished.
Use storage as a stockroom, not a dumping ground
Create a simple mental separation:
- Field kit: healing and stamina consumables, cures for ailments you expect in the next area, a small number of utility items, and the equipment currently assigned to each character.
- Stockroom: crafting materials, duplicate or low-priority equipment, event or bonus items, and valuables you plan to sell later.
- Review pile: items whose purpose or value you have not yet confirmed. Keep them in storage until you know whether a quest, upgrade or recipe needs them.
Because the post-2024 storage menu supports selling and armor equipment, you do not need to withdraw every item merely to clean up a haul or change armor. Keep the stockroom organized by periodically removing obsolete gear and selling it from the storage interface.

Capcom’s June 26, 2024 title-update announcement added two conveniences that materially change the old withdraw-first routine:

These are dated patch details from the June 26, 2024 announcement, not a promise that every future platform build will present the same menu wording. If your installation behaves differently, check its current update notes and in-game manual.
Build a field kit that stays light
Choose consumables by the next objective
Carry enough supplies for the next planned route rather than every possible emergency. A short trip between settlements needs a smaller kit than a long wilderness expedition. Keep the items that cure conditions or restore resources you actually expect to encounter, and leave reserve stacks in storage.

The recommendation is practical risk control, not a documented restriction on who may use an item.
Leave duplicate equipment in storage
Keep currently useful weapons and armor available to the vocation that needs them, but deposit duplicates and outdated pieces. The June 2024 armor-from-storage feature means you can retrieve or equip a stored piece when changing vocation at a vocation guild, so there is less reason to carry an entire wardrobe.
Deposit crafting materials routinely
Materials are the easiest source of silent weight growth because they accumulate while you explore. At every inn stop, deposit the materials you are not about to use. The 999-per-item-type maximum provides substantial headroom, but it does not eliminate the need to notice a capped stack or decide whether a material is worth keeping.

Pawn inventories require their own check
Why items can move unexpectedly
Capcom’s FAQ documents special behavior for pawns with the Hawker and Logistician specializations. These specializations can adjust total carried weight. Capcom’s examples include a pawn automatically receiving items and equipment from the Arisen and selling low-rarity items.

The FAQ does not publish a complete item-by-item policy for either specialization. Therefore, do not assume every transfer or sale follows one universal rule. If an item seems to have moved or disappeared, inspect the pawn’s inventory and specialization before concluding that the game lost it.
Use a post-transfer inspection
- Open the Arisen’s inventory and note any high-value, quest-related or essential consumable you just moved.
- Open each pawn’s inventory and confirm what that pawn is carrying.
- Check the pawn’s specialization if automatic receiving, weight adjustment or low-rarity selling could explain a change.
- Return critical consumables to the character expected to use them, then deposit surplus items at the next storage stop.
What happens when a pawn becomes forfeit
Capcom specifically states that items held by a pawn who becomes forfeit are automatically sent to item storage. This documented recovery rule applies to the forfeit case; it should not be generalized to every pawn dismissal, replacement or inventory-loss scenario. After a forfeit event, visit storage and verify the returned items before setting out again.
Managing weight when the party is overloaded
“How do I increase my equip load?” is a common player phrasing, but the cited official material does not document a particular inventory setting that raises the Arisen’s capacity. The dependable approach is to reduce carried weight:
- Deposit crafting materials and duplicate equipment at an inn.
- Sell unwanted items directly from storage after the June 2024 update.
- Carry only the consumables needed for the next leg of the journey.
- Check whether a pawn’s Hawker or Logistician specialization is changing who carries items or how total weight is adjusted.
- After any redistribution, inspect all party inventories so a temporary transfer does not become a forgotten load.
Do not rely on a pawn as a permanent warehouse. A pawn can be dismissed, replaced or affected by specialization behavior, while storage at an inn is the stable location for long-term stock.

Save and rest behavior that affects inventory recovery
Inventory management and save recovery are related but not identical. Capcom defines Last Inn Rest as the last time the Arisen rested at an inn or dwelling. Camping does not count for that option. The same FAQ says autosave occurs when entering a new area or resting at an inn.
Use this distinction when recovering from a bad transfer or an unwanted inventory change:
- Camping: useful for ordinary travel and recovery, but it does not update the Last Inn Rest reference.
- Inn or dwelling rest: updates the Last Inn Rest point and gives access to storage where the location supports it.
- Entering a new area: can trigger an autosave according to Capcom’s FAQ.
Before experimenting with a large item transfer, make an inn or dwelling rest your known recovery point. Do not assume that a camp has created the same fallback state.

The assignment’s wording suggests a settings menu might control sorting, combining or item destinations. The official sources cited here do not verify the exact text, location or platform availability of such options. Capcom’s online-manual landing page links to platform manuals, but menu labels can change with platform, region and updates.
Use the current in-game manual and your platform’s current UI to verify any option before relying on it. In particular, do not assume that a setting automatically sends every pickup to storage, combines every material stack, or prevents a pawn from receiving an item. The documented controls you can safely plan around are the innkeeper storage menu, the post-2024 sell-from-storage and armor-from-storage functions, and the per-item-type storage cap.

The PlayStation 5 FAQ was last updated October 12, 2026. Capcom notes that basic game contents are the same across regional versions, while some differences can be hardware-specific. If you play on another platform, confirm button prompts and menu labels in that platform’s manual rather than copying a PS5 instruction literally.
A repeatable settlement routine
Before leaving an inn
- Withdraw only the consumables and equipment needed for the next objective.
- Confirm that the intended user carries each essential consumable.
- Check the Arisen’s encumbrance and each pawn’s load.
- Leave crafting stock, duplicate armor and spare weapons in storage.
During the journey
- Pick up valuable or quest-relevant loot, but reassess weight after a large dungeon or battlefield.
- If you transfer an item to a pawn, remember which pawn has it.
- Do not let an emergency transfer become a permanent storage plan.
When you reach an inn or dwelling
- Speak with the innkeeper and open storage.
- Deposit crafting materials, spare equipment and surplus consumables.
- Sell unwanted items from storage.
- Equip stored armor directly if you are changing vocation at a vocation guild.
- Review every party inventory before leaving the menu.
After hiring, dismissing or replacing a pawn
Compare the new party’s inventories with the field kit you intended to carry. Pay particular attention to items that had been given to the old pawn, and inspect specializations that may have altered weight or item ownership. If a pawn became forfeit, check storage for the automatically returned items.

The cited FAQ is specifically for PlayStation 5 and was updated October 12, 2026. Capcom says basic game contents are the same across regional versions, with some hardware-specific differences. The storage features described in the June 26, 2024 update are publisher-announced patch details, so an unupdated installation may not expose the same controls. Keep the game updated and verify the current manual when a label or button prompt does not match these instructions.
