Online matches are not available from the opening screen. In Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World, you must first install the game and advance far enough for its online area or menu to appear. Square Enix has not yet published the exact chapter, quest, NPC, rank, or play-time requirement. Once the menu is available, Ranked Match, Private Match, and Online Joint Battle provide competitive, friendly, and cooperative play. Console matchmaking requires the platform’s paid online service for multiplayer modes, while solo Joint Battle does not.
The game is scheduled to launch on December 3, 2026, so menu names and unlock requirements may change before release.
What you need before trying online play
Online functionality is tied to the full game rather than being a separate download. Before looking for a matchmaking option, check these prerequisites:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- A supported platform and the correct edition of the game.
- The game installed and updated to the current launch version.
- Enough story progress for the online area or menu to unlock. The exact trigger has not been announced.
- A stable internet connection.
- A paid console online membership when required by your selected mode and platform.
The confirmed online features are Ranked Match, Private Match, Online Joint Battle, Wranglers Society, Online Shop, and Player Profile. Nintendo also describes tournament-style battles, friendly matches, and opportunities to earn prizes. These features are planned for the December 3, 2026 release and should be treated as pre-release information until the game ships.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Choose the correct edition and platform
There are separate Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 editions. The Switch 2 edition cannot run on the original Switch. The Switch edition runs on both Switch and Switch 2, but save data cannot be shared between the two editions. Select the version that matches the console on which you intend to play; buying the wrong edition can prevent you from starting the game on that system and can leave progress isolated from another edition.
Online cross-platform play is supported across Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox, PC, and other supported platforms. That means players do not need to own the same console to meet in an online battle, provided each person is using a supported edition and has the required service access.
How to unlock the online menu
The launch-day process is expected to be straightforward, but the exact progression gate is still unpublished. Follow this procedure without relying on an unverified chapter or boss requirement:
- Install the full game. Use the edition intended for your platform, then allow any available update to finish.
- Start a normal save. Complete the opening sequence and follow the main story rather than searching for a multiplayer option immediately.
- Watch for the online area or menu. The game should present access to its online functions as you reach the relevant point in the story. The official FAQ does not identify the chapter, quest, NPC, rank, or number of hours involved.
- Open the online feature list. When it appears, select Ranked Match, Private Match, or Online Joint Battle according to the type of play you want.
- Check the platform requirement before queueing. Console multiplayer modes may stop at the service check if your subscription is inactive. Solo Joint Battle is the exception.
If you have completed the opening content and still cannot find online options, do not assume that a particular boss or monster rank is required. The precise trigger has not been published. Continue the main story, read any in-game prompt that appears, and check for a launch update or a later Square Enix support notice.
Which online mode should you choose?
Ranked Match
Ranked Match is the competitive matchmaking option. It is intended for players who want their results tracked in a structured, tournament-like environment rather than a one-off invitation. Nintendo’s description refers to serious tournaments and prize opportunities, but the available pre-release information does not specify ranking seasons, matchmaking rules, divisions, reward tables, or the exact battle format. Those details should be confirmed in the game after launch.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
On Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox, Ranked Match requires the platform’s paid online service. PC and Steam users do not need an equivalent console membership according to Square Enix’s published requirements, although they still need an internet connection and a valid game installation.
Private Match
Private Match is the choice for friendly play with invited players rather than open competitive matchmaking. Use it when you want to arrange a battle with someone you know. The official material confirms the mode but does not yet document its room-code, invitation, or password screens, so do not rely on a specific menu label until the final build is available.
A paid online membership is required for Private Match on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox. Cross-platform play means the participants can use different supported systems, subject to the game’s final account and invitation flow.
Online Joint Battle
Online Joint Battle is the cooperative option. In multiplayer Joint Battle, two or more players work against a shared enemy rather than fighting each other. Xbox’s store listing describes online co-op for 2–4 players. The same listing describes online multiplayer for 2 players, which corresponds to competitive or versus play on that listing; the final player limits for each mode can vary by platform or mode and should be checked in the shipped game.
Joint Battle also has a solo version. Solo Joint Battle does not require a paid online membership on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, or Xbox. This makes it the practical way to try the feature when you have no console subscription, although it is not the same as playing cooperatively with another person.

- Travel Must-Have for People On the Go: A must-have travel accessory for flights, flying, airports, air travel, airplanes, planes, international trips, cruises, and long travel days. Key gadget for your airport haul, travel accessories and must-haves.
Wranglers Society
Wranglers Society is listed as an online feature, but the available announcement does not define its activities in enough detail to describe a specific lobby, guild, or communication system. Treat it as a separate online service area rather than assuming it unlocks battles by itself.

Online Shop
The Online Shop is confirmed as an online function and does not require a paid membership on the listed platforms. Availability, inventory, currencies, and regional restrictions have not been published in the material currently available, so avoid assuming that shop items affect competitive balance or that every item is available in every region.
Player Profile
Player Profile is another confirmed online feature that does not require a paid console membership. It is separate from the battle queue, and the official information does not yet specify which statistics, badges, titles, or privacy settings it will display.
Membership requirements by platform
Square Enix’s platform table distinguishes paid multiplayer access from the other online functions. The requirement applies to the console service, not to the game’s purchase price.
| Platform | Ranked Match | Private Match | Online Joint Battle multiplayer | Online Joint Battle solo | Wranglers Society, Online Shop, Player Profile |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch | Paid membership required | Paid membership required | Paid membership required | No paid membership required | No paid membership required |
| PlayStation 5 | PlayStation Plus required | PlayStation Plus required | PlayStation Plus required | No paid membership required | No paid membership required |
| Xbox | Game Pass Core or Ultimate required | Game Pass Core or Ultimate required | Game Pass Core or Ultimate required | No paid membership required | No paid membership required |
| Xbox on PC and Steam | No equivalent paid console membership required | No equivalent paid console membership required | No equivalent paid console membership required | No equivalent paid console membership required | No equivalent paid console membership required |
The table reflects the published requirements, not subscription prices. Service names, eligibility rules, and prices can change, so check your platform’s current account page before subscribing. A subscription does not replace the need to own the game or to reach the in-game online unlock.

How to start a match after the menu unlocks
Starting Ranked Match
- Open the game’s online feature area.
- Select Ranked Match.
- Complete any on-screen team, rules, or matchmaking confirmations shown by the final release.
- Confirm the platform’s online-service check and begin matchmaking.
- Wait for an opponent and follow the battle-result screen when the match ends.
The exact rating, season, and reward presentation has not been announced, so the final interface may use different submenus.
Starting Private Match
- Open the online feature area and choose Private Match.
- Create or join the private session using the invitation method shown in your copy of the game.
- Confirm the battle settings and ready status for all participants.
- Start the match once every player is connected.
Because Square Enix has not documented the invitation interface, do not assume that a room code, friend-list invite, or password is mandatory; use whichever method the release build provides.
Starting Online Joint Battle
- Select Online Joint Battle.
- Choose multiplayer if you want to cooperate with another player, or choose solo for a membership-free session on supported consoles.
- For multiplayer, complete the game’s party or matchmaking prompts and wait for the other player or players to connect.
- Begin the cooperative battle against the shared enemy when the lobby is ready.
Xbox lists two to four players for online co-op. The final release may present different party limits or matchmaking choices on other platforms.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Cross-platform play: what it means in practice
Cross-platform play allows players on Switch 2, Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox, PC, and other supported systems to join online multiplayer together. You therefore do not need to buy the same console edition as a friend solely to battle or cooperate with them.
- Use the same supported online mode on each system.
- Make sure every participant is running an up-to-date version.
- Check the final game’s account, privacy, and invitation prompts if a friend cannot be found.
- Remember that cross-play does not remove platform membership rules: console players still need the required paid service for Ranked Match, Private Match, and multiplayer Joint Battle.
The official announcement confirms cross-platform support but does not explain whether cross-play can be disabled, how platform-specific friend lists work, or whether matchmaking pools can be filtered. Those controls should be verified in the final settings.

Using the demo to prepare your team
The demo can transfer up to eight monsters rated Rank G or Rank F to the full game on the same platform. A transferred monster arrives in the Depot at level 1. Its talents, plus values, and family tree are reset, so the transfer preserves the eligible monster but not the complete training state from the demo.
You must progress in the full game until the Depot is unlocked before you can add the transferred monsters to your party. The transfer rules do not state that demo monsters receive a special online advantage. Plan to retrain them before entering competitive battles, and do not mistake the transfer limit for an online roster limit.
Troubleshooting when online play is unavailable
The online menu is missing
- Confirm that you are playing the full release rather than only the demo.
- Continue the main story and look for an in-game notice that introduces the online area.
- Install any available game update.
- Do not use an online guide that claims a specific boss, chapter, rank, or number of hours unless Square Enix has officially confirmed it.
- If the feature remains absent after launch, consult the game’s current support documentation because the unlock condition was not published before release.
A membership error appears
- Verify that the console account has the required active service: a Nintendo Switch online membership, PlayStation Plus, or Xbox Game Pass Core or Ultimate, depending on platform.
- Check that you selected multiplayer Joint Battle rather than solo Joint Battle; only the multiplayer version requires the paid console service.
- On PC or Steam, remember that Square Enix does not require an equivalent paid console membership.
- Confirm that the account used to launch the game is the account with online access.
A friend on another platform cannot join
- Confirm that both players are using supported editions and current updates.
- Check each player’s privacy or cross-play setting if the final game provides one.
- Use the invitation or matchmaking method shown in the game instead of assuming that a console-native friend list is sufficient.
- Ensure that the selected mode supports the desired number of players; Xbox’s published limits are two to four for online co-op and two for online multiplayer.
Your save does not appear on another Switch edition
Switch and Switch 2 editions do not share save data. The Switch edition runs on both systems, but progress from the Switch edition and progress from the Switch 2 edition remain separate. Launch the edition associated with the save you intend to use.
What is confirmed, and what remains unknown
| Question | Current answer |
|---|---|
| When does the game release? | December 3, 2026, according to Nintendo’s listing. |
| Are online battles included? | Yes. Ranked Match, Private Match, and Online Joint Battle are confirmed. |
| Is cross-platform play supported? | Yes, across Switch 2, Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox, PC, and other supported platforms. |
| What story chapter unlocks online play? | Not stated in the published official information. |
| Is a specific boss, rank, NPC, or play-time threshold required? | Not stated. Do not rely on an unverified requirement. |
| Can console players play without a paid membership? | Only solo Joint Battle and the listed social, shop, and profile functions are membership-free; console multiplayer modes require the relevant service. |
| Do demo monsters give an online advantage? | No special advantage is announced. Transfers are limited to eight Rank G or F monsters, reset them to level 1 with specified progression data reset, and require the Depot to be unlocked. |
