Download BlueStacks from its official website, then run the installer and follow its prompts. Before you begin, check that your Windows 10 PC meets the minimum requirements; if Hyper-V is enabled, confirm the additional Windows and account requirements below.
Check your Windows 10 PC before downloading
BlueStacks Support lists these minimum requirements for BlueStacks 5. They are minimums, not a promise of smooth performance:
- Windows 7 or later
- An Intel or AMD processor
- At least 4 GB of RAM
- 5 GB of free disk space
- Administrator access
- Up-to-date graphics drivers from Microsoft or the chipset vendor
RAM and disk space are separate requirements: having 5 GB free on the drive does not make up for having less than 4 GB of RAM. BlueStacks’ system requirements page explains the published minimums and recommendations.

BlueStacks recommends Windows 10 or later, 8 GB or more of RAM, virtualization enabled, SSD or hybrid storage, broadband internet, and current graphics drivers. Its CPU recommendation is an Intel or AMD multicore processor with a single-thread benchmark score greater than 1000; its graphics recommendation is a benchmark score of at least 750. These are BlueStacks’ published recommendations, not universal performance guarantees.

BlueStacks also cautions that running other virtual machine software can cause performance issues. If you plan to use it alongside such software, take that possibility into account.
Download BlueStacks from its official website
- Open the BlueStacks website.
- Choose the download option on the site to obtain the installer. Avoid third-party installer mirrors.
- When the download finishes, open the downloaded installer. Its filename and size can vary, so use the installer you just downloaded rather than relying on a particular filename.
- Follow the installer’s on-screen instructions to complete setup. BlueStacks says the app launches after installation finishes; the prompts can vary by Windows configuration.
BlueStacks states that software downloaded from official sources such as its website does not contain malware or malicious programs. That is the publisher’s statement, not an independent security audit, so the practical safeguard is to use the official download source.

Check whether Hyper-V is enabled
BlueStacks 5 version 5.20 and later can run with Hyper-V either enabled or disabled. The requirements for setup differ when Hyper-V is enabled:
| Configuration | What to check | Download behavior |
|---|---|---|
| Hyper-V disabled | Meet the general BlueStacks 5 minimums for Windows, processor, memory, disk space, administrator access, and graphics drivers. | Use the download option on the official website and run its installer. |
| Hyper-V enabled | BlueStacks specifies Windows 10 version 1903 or later, at least 4 GB RAM, 5 GB free disk space, administrator access, updated graphics drivers, Hyper-V enabled, and membership in the Hyper-V Administrators group. | BlueStacks says its website download detects Hyper-V and selects a compatible version. |
See BlueStacks’ instructions for using BlueStacks 5 with Hyper-V enabled for configuration details. If you are not sure whether Hyper-V is enabled or whether your account belongs to the required group, check those Windows settings before troubleshooting the installer.

Fix a Windows-version incompatibility message
BlueStacks’ compatibility guidance says versions 5.21.301 and later require Windows 10 or newer. It points users on older systems to version 5.21.300, while its general requirements page says Windows 7 or Windows 8 users can use versions 5.21.300 and below. This is version-specific guidance; available builds and compatibility can change.
- Check which Windows version is installed and whether it meets the requirement for the BlueStacks build you downloaded.
- Check the current BlueStacks compatibility and system-requirements guidance before trying another build.
- If your PC runs an older version of Windows, consult BlueStacks’ incompatibility instructions. The article identifies 5.21.300 for older systems; use an older build only if the current official guidance still supports your Windows version.
For a current Windows 10 installation, first confirm the exact Windows and BlueStacks versions shown in the error. If Hyper-V is enabled, also check the Windows 10 version and Hyper-V requirements rather than assuming every installation error is caused by an outdated operating system.
