Dorion is an unofficial desktop client that runs Discord’s web version and adds desktop-oriented features. Its developer positions it as a smaller, storage-conscious option, but the published file-size comparison is not evidence of lower RAM or CPU use. The larger consideration is policy: Discord’s published rules prohibit modifying its client, and Dorion describes itself as modifying and extending Discord’s web client.
What Dorion is—and what “lightweight” means here
Dorion describes itself as an alternative Discord client. According to its project repository and project page, it runs the web version of Discord with custom implementations of desktop-oriented features. The project targets people with lower-spec or storage-sensitive computers and emphasizes a smaller installation and faster startup.
The project page says installation files are approximately 11 times smaller. That is a developer-published file-size comparison; the page excerpt does not provide a comparison method or test conditions. It does not establish that Dorion uses less memory or CPU, starts faster on every computer, or performs better in ordinary use. No independent comparative performance measurements are established in the cited materials.

The repository lists these additions and options:
- Themes and plugins.
- Global push-to-talk and custom keybinds.
- RPC and game-presence support.
- Shelter included, with Vencord and Equicord available as optional enablements.
These are project-listed capabilities, not a guarantee that every feature works identically across operating systems or builds. The Linux caveats are especially relevant if voice is essential.

Platform support and Linux caveats
Dorion’s repository README includes a platform compatibility table and qualifications that can change between releases. In the documented configuration, it marks Linux voice as unsupported and notes that WebRTC support depends on WebKitGTK and build configuration. It also qualifies basic Linux use and mentions reports of freezing, particularly while GIFs play. Check the current README and the release notes for the exact build you intend to use before relying on Dorion for voice or daily use.
These qualifications do not mean every Linux installation will behave the same way: the README ties WebRTC support to the underlying web engine and build configuration. Conversely, a successful basic launch does not establish that voice or other WebRTC-dependent functions will work.

Discord’s rules are an important trade-off
Dorion’s own materials describe it as modifying and extending Discord’s web client. Discord’s Terms of Service prohibit unauthorized software designed to modify its services. Its Platform Manipulation Policy Explainer states: “Don’t modify the Discord client for any reason — including automating account actions or altering the appearance or layout of Discord.” The policy page is dated March 15, 2024; check Discord’s current policy wording before deciding.
Dorion is not presented here as endorsed by Discord. The published policy makes use of a modified client a material rules concern; these sources do not establish what enforcement outcome any particular user would face.

How to get Dorion and handle community packages
Use the releases and portable-build links provided through the official Dorion repository to find the project’s own distribution channels. The repository also lists community package repositories, but says the Dorion developer does not maintain them. Treat those as third-party-maintained packages, not official Dorion builds or endorsements, and check their maintainers and update status before installing.

Is Dorion a good fit?
- Consider it if: you want themes, plugins, keybinds, push-to-talk, or presence options and are comfortable evaluating an unofficial modified client.
- Be cautious if: Discord voice must work reliably on Linux, because the README’s documented configuration marks Linux voice unsupported and explains WebRTC caveats.
- Do not choose it solely for: a promised reduction in RAM, CPU use, or startup time. The cited size claim concerns installation files, and no independent performance benchmark is established here.
- Skip it if: complying with Discord’s published client-modification policy is a priority for you.
