Yes. Australian players can choose several Don’t Starve Together (DST) hosts that list Sydney or Australia as a location, but no published source in the available listings measures real Australian game latency. Treat location claims and prices as leads to verify on the live checkout page, then test the server from your own network before committing.

What an Australian DST server changes

A server in Sydney puts the game process geographically closer to players in Australia and nearby regions than a North American or European location would normally be. That can reduce the distance packets travel, but a city label is not a latency guarantee. Your internet provider’s route, evening congestion, Wi-Fi, and the host’s upstream network all affect the result. The only dependable answer for your group is a test from the connections that will actually play.

For DST, the useful hosting decisions are location, player capacity, memory allocation, backup and mod controls, support, and recurring cost. A plan with an Australian location but inadequate resources or poor support can be a worse choice than a well-run overseas plan, while an inexpensive plan may become expensive once extra slots, tax, or currency conversion are added.

How to read the confidence levels

  • Streamline Servers, Pingplayers, and Sparked Host are the entries that explicitly name Sydney in the available listings.
  • 4netplayers identifies Australia but does not identify a city, so you cannot assume the machine is in Sydney.
  • The GTXGaming location and price come from a roundup rather than a vendor-confirmed page and should be treated as lower-confidence information.
  • The quoted prices do not share a common currency or billing model. A monthly figure can exclude GST, use a promotional rate, or change after currency conversion.

What the prices mean in practice

Slot-based pricing

Streamline Servers publishes a A$9.00 monthly base and A$0.75 per slot, with a 12-to-36-slot range. If the checkout applies that formula literally, the arithmetic is A$18.00 for 12 slots (A$9.00 + 12 × A$0.75) and A$36.00 for 36 slots. Those are calculations from the advertised formula, not a guarantee that the final invoice will contain no setup fee, tax, or promotion. Confirm whether the base already includes any slots before paying.

RAM-based pricing

Pingplayers quotes US$2.69 per GB for a 30-day period and also shows fixed tiers around US$8–18 per 30 days. The relevant comparison is memory per dollar, not the headline monthly number: ask how many player slots, backups, and storage are included at each tier. Sparked Host’s quoted entry point is US$8.80 per month for 4 GB of RAM, but the result was flagged as possibly stale, so check the current configurator.

AUD versus USD

Only the Streamline Servers and 4netplayers figures in the available results are denominated in Australian dollars. The other prices are in US dollars and will be converted by your card issuer or payment processor. GST inclusion was not established for any listing. Compare the final checkout total in AUD, including recurring tax and payment conversion fees, rather than comparing the displayed numbers directly.

How to verify Sydney location and ping before buying

No source in the available results publishes an independent Australian latency statistic for a DST server. A Sydney data-centre label is therefore a useful screening signal, not proof of a particular ping.

  1. Ask for the actual region and endpoint. In the order page or support ticket, confirm that the DST instance itself—not only the company’s office or website—is hosted in Sydney or another Australian city. Request the server IP or hostname used for testing.
  2. Test from representative connections. From Windows, run ping SERVER_IP and tracert SERVER_IP. On macOS or Linux, use ping SERVER_IP and traceroute SERVER_IP. Replace SERVER_IP with the endpoint supplied by the host. ICMP may be blocked, so a failed command does not automatically mean the game server is unreachable.
  3. Use the game’s own connection test when available. After provisioning, have players join a password-protected test world at different times of day. Compare the in-game response with the command-line result; the game uses its own traffic path and protocol.
  4. Test every important ISP. A single player’s result can hide a routing problem affecting another player. Include mobile broadband or regional NBN connections if those will be used regularly.
  5. Cancel or migrate during the host’s policy window. Save your world and configuration first, then use the provider’s cancellation or transfer process if the observed experience is unacceptable.

Do not convert one ping reading into a universal promise. The available evidence supports no specific millisecond target for Australian DST play.

Choosing a plan for your group

Start with simultaneous players

Count the maximum number of people who will be online together, not the size of your community or friends list. Leave room for a late arrival rather than buying a plan that runs at its advertised cap every session. Streamline Servers is the only listing here with a stated 12–36-slot range. The other Australian listings do not state their caps in the available summaries, so obtain that number in writing.

Ask about memory and CPU allocation

Pingplayers prices by RAM, and Sparked Host’s entry listing specifies 4 GB. The summaries do not provide CPU model, CPU share, storage type, or memory limits for the other providers. Ask whether RAM is dedicated or shared, whether the limit applies to the master world and caves together, and what happens when the process reaches its limit. A slot count without a resource specification is not enough for a meaningful comparison.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Check the controls you will actually use

  • World-save downloads and restore points, with retention periods and any extra charge.
  • One-click or documented installation of DST server updates and workshop mods.
  • Access to configuration files, server logs, admin lists, and passwords.
  • Restart scheduling and whether an unexpected crash is restarted automatically.
  • Ability to change slots or RAM without rebuilding the world.
  • Support hours, ticket response expectations, and the process for moving to another region.

Weigh the SLA correctly

Pingplayers advertises a 99.9% uptime SLA. That percentage permits roughly 43 minutes of downtime in a 30-day month if measured continuously, but an SLA is a contractual service-credit promise, not a guarantee of low ping, fast support, or a crash-free game process. Check the agreement’s exclusions, maintenance window, measurement method, and compensation before treating it as a deciding advantage. No uptime figure was stated for the other entries.

Provisioning a hosted DST world

Control-panel wording differs, but the workflow is broadly the same. Use the host’s current labels rather than assuming that every panel has the same buttons.

  1. Select the Australian region. Choose Sydney or the explicitly named Australian location during ordering. Capture a screenshot of the selected region and the final recurring price.
  2. Set slots and resources. Choose a capacity above your expected simultaneous player count. If the plan is RAM-based, record the allocated memory and ask what is shared with the operating system or other services.
  3. Install DST. Use the provider’s game selector or installation action, then wait for the first world generation to complete. Do not upload a world save until the server has started once successfully.
  4. Configure access. Set a strong server password, add trusted administrators, and keep the connection details private. Give the address only to the intended group.
  5. Apply mods carefully. Add one mod at a time, restart, and check the log after each change. Keep a copy of the working configuration so a problematic update can be removed.
  6. Enable backups. Schedule automatic backups if offered and download an independent copy of the world before major mod or game updates.
  7. Run a staged test. Join with one or two players first, then test the expected peak. Record disconnects, tick or simulation warnings, memory usage, and restart behavior.

Common problems and fixes

The panel shows Australia but players still lag

Verify the actual server endpoint, test by wired Ethernet where possible, and compare different ISPs. If the route is poor, ask support whether another Sydney node is available. Do not assume that adding RAM will repair an internet-routing problem.

The advertised price is higher at checkout

Check currency, GST, billing period, slot add-ons, setup charges, automatic renewal, and card conversion fees. A US$8–18 tier is not an A$8–18 tier, and a 30-day period is not always the same as a calendar month.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The world crashes after adding a mod

Stop the server, restore the last known-good backup, remove the newest mod, and review the startup log. Reintroduce changes individually. Ask support whether the host pins a particular DST build or limits mod downloads.

The server disappears after an update

Confirm that the process is running, check the provider’s status page and console log, and verify that the port and password have not changed. If the host cannot restore the service promptly, download the latest world backup and prepare it for migration.

Providers without a confirmed Australian location

The available listings also mention Shockbyte, XGamingServer, ZAP-Hosting, Nodecraft, GPORTAL, and Citadel as DST hosts, but none of the reviewed results names an Australian location for them. Shockbyte’s listed prices are US$6.99 per month for six players and US$11.99 for 12 players; XGamingServer is shown from US$7 per month. Those figures may be useful as overseas price references, but they do not establish Sydney availability, Australian routing, or equivalent taxes. Ask each provider for the exact region and endpoint before considering one for an Australia-focused group.

A practical decision checklist

  • Is the DST machine itself in Sydney or another Australian city?
  • Is the price in AUD, and does it include GST and recurring fees?
  • How many slots and how much RAM are included, and can either be upgraded?
  • What backup download and restore options are available?
  • What uptime SLA, maintenance policy, and support response terms apply?
  • Can every regular player test the endpoint before the refund or cancellation window ends?
  • Can you export the world and configuration if you need to move?

For a group that wants a clearly stated Sydney location and AUD arithmetic, Streamline Servers is the easiest listing to evaluate, subject to live verification. Pingplayers is the most explicit about a 99.9% SLA and RAM-based tiers. Sparked Host provides a Sydney configurator with a 4 GB entry plan, while 4netplayers supplies an AUD figure but no city. GTXGaming needs extra caution because the available location and price are secondhand. None should be selected without checking the current checkout details and testing the real endpoint.
