Steve Ross is selling minority stakes in a bundled South Florida sports-and-entertainment business while retaining control of the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins described the valuation as the highest in professional sports; the Associated Press characterized it more specifically as the highest valuation for a minority transaction in professional sports.

A South Florida Business Journal report dated October 16, 2026, says Ross has completed or agreed to another small sale at a price above the March valuation. Its accessible preview identifies interests in Hard Rock Stadium and the organization’s Formula 1 and tennis businesses, but does not identify the buyer or state the exact percentage. The confirmed percentages amount to 14% across the 2024 and March 2026 transactions. Because the October percentage and the detailed ownership structure are not public, that figure is not a current cap table and does not show Ross’s exact remaining share.
Why Ross is selling pieces instead of the whole team
Each announcement presents the sales as strategic minority investments. Ross can raise capital and add partners without surrendering day-to-day control of the Dolphins or the associated businesses. The Dolphins’ 2024 statement said Ross selected investors who aligned with the organization’s values and long-term vision after attracting interest from multiple parties.

Ross gave a similar explanation for Lin’s investment, saying it would allow the organization to keep prioritizing growth of the Dolphins and its other properties while investing further in South Florida. Nothing in the announced transactions indicates that Ross is pursuing a full exit or that control has changed hands. The stated rationale is access to outside capital and aligned partners, not a disclosed liquidity crisis.
What the $12.5 billion valuation includes
The $12.5 billion figure is a valuation for a portfolio, not simply a price for the NFL franchise in isolation. The March transaction explicitly bundled four assets:
- Miami Dolphins: the NFL team controlled by Ross.
- Hard Rock Stadium: the Miami Gardens venue used for Dolphins games and major events.
- Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix: the South Florida race operation associated with the stadium complex.
- Miami Open: the professional tennis event included in the March investment package.
That bundling matters when comparing the headline valuation with valuations for other NFL teams. How Ross Sports & Entertainment changes the picture
On August 4, 2026, Ross introduced Ross Sports & Entertainment (RSE) as the umbrella organization for the Dolphins, Hard Rock Stadium, the Miami Grand Prix, the Miami Open and Precision Drive Club. RSE said it had acquired a 45% stake in the Miami Open and co-owns and operates the tournament with MARI.
