Short answer: Do not expect Season 1 cash, levels, or unlocks to appear in Season 2. BULKHEAD reset progression tracks and moved unlocks when Season 02 launched with Update 0.2.0 on October 15, 2026. Reinstalling on the same Steam account is different: online progression is more likely to synchronize, while settings, keybinds, and tutorial completion can reset. Steam-to-console carry-over is not documented, so treat cross-platform progression as unsupported until BULKHEAD or Team17 publishes a policy.
What happens to each type of WARDOGS progress?
WARDOGS separates account-facing progression from data stored by the local game installation. The distinction matters because a Season reset, a reinstall, and a platform move are three different events.

Player reports on the official Steam listing mention having to unlock gear again after the new season. That is consistent with the announced progression redesign, not proof that a reinstall erased a valid Season 2 account.
Why Season 1 progression is not a reliable starting point
Season 02 went live with Update 0.2.0 on October 15, 2026. In the launch announcement, BULKHEAD wrote, “WARDOGS Season 02 is now LIVE.” The update did more than add a label to an existing season: it changed the progression tracks and where unlocks appear.

The store description presents WARDOGS as an Early Access multiplayer game in which “every action earns rewards” through cash- and XP-based progression. When the structure that awards those rewards changes, the old level or unlock map cannot be assumed to have a one-to-one destination in the new season. A weapon or item that was available at one Season 1 threshold can therefore require a different action or level in Season 2.
That is why a player can sign into the correct account, see a functioning game, and still find that earlier gear is unavailable. The visible state reflects the new season’s rules rather than necessarily indicating a failed installation. Season 1 currency and level history should be treated as closed-season data unless a future official announcement says otherwise.
How WARDOGS appears to save progression
Online rewards are associated with the account
WARDOGS is an online multiplayer release, and its store information describes cash and XP progression. The strongest practical indication that this data is account-based comes from a Team17 support thread: a player installed the game on a laptop and reported seeing the account synchronize. That supports the expectation that a same-account installation can retrieve online progression.

It does not establish a complete cloud-save guarantee for every piece of data. There is no published recovery statistic, technical storage specification, or promise that every setting and tutorial flag is synchronized. Use the support report as evidence for likely account progression recovery, not as a warranty for local configuration.
Local client data is a separate risk
Uninstalling removes the game client and may remove configuration files or folders that contain display options, audio choices, keybinds, controller mappings, and tutorial state. Even when the server restores your cash and XP, the first launch can look like a fresh setup because those local preferences are gone.
Before uninstalling, record your current settings. Screenshots of every settings page are the simplest backup. If you know where your WARDOGS configuration is stored, copy that folder to a separate location, but do not assume that copying it can restore server-side cash or unlocks; a local file cannot recreate account data held by the game service.

Safe procedure for reinstalling on Steam
Follow this order when the goal is to refresh the installation without confusing a local reset with lost online progress.
- Verify the account. Write down the Steam account that owns WARDOGS. If several people use the computer, sign out of other Steam accounts before removing the game.
- Record local settings. Screenshot graphics, audio, accessibility, mouse sensitivity, controller mappings, and keybind pages. Preserve any configuration folder you intentionally maintain.
- Remove and reinstall the game. Uninstall WARDOGS through Steam, then install it again from the same library account. Avoid switching accounts during the process.
- Allow the first synchronization to finish. Start the game while Steam is online and wait through login, updates, and any server-connection activity before changing settings or entering a match.
- Check the main menu first. Compare the displayed level, cash, and unlock state with what you expect for the current season. Do this before spending currency or queueing for a match.
- Restore your setup. Re-enter keybinds and graphics options from your screenshots. If the tutorial starts again, complete or dismiss it according to the current client prompts; its reset does not by itself prove that account progression failed.
- Test one normal session. Enter a match, earn a small amount of XP or cash, return to the menu, and restart the game to confirm that the current session is recording normally.
- Escalate with evidence if needed. If level, cash, or Season 2 unlocks are missing, capture the main menu, note the Steam account and platform, record the installation time, and contact Team17 support. Do not delete additional files while investigating.
Do not judge recovery from the tutorial screen alone. The useful checks are the account-facing values on the main menu and whether a newly earned reward remains after a restart.
Why settings or the tutorial can look new after reinstalling
A reinstall can reset the parts of the game that are convenient to store on the PC. Typical symptoms include default resolution, changed sensitivity, missing custom keybinds, a first-run graphics prompt, or a tutorial sequence that appears again. Those symptoms are compatible with a successful account synchronization.

Use your screenshots to recreate the configuration, then restart the game and confirm that the options remain. If the game repeatedly forgets settings every launch, check that the configuration location is writable and that security software is not deleting or virtualizing it. Those checks address the local client; they cannot repair missing server progression.

The current official listing is for Steam Early Access. It says console versions are planned for 2028, but that statement is a release plan, not a promise that Steam accounts and console accounts will share inventory or levels.

Checklist before changing platforms
- Look for an explicit cross-progression statement from BULKHEAD or Team17 rather than relying on forum assumptions.
- Confirm which account identity the new platform would use and whether it can be linked to the Steam account.
- Save screenshots of your current Season 2 level, cash, and important unlocks so support can compare states.
- Keep the original Steam installation and account accessible until the new platform’s synchronization behavior is confirmed.
- Ask support whether purchases, seasonal rewards, and gameplay unlocks are handled separately; a shared login would not automatically prove shared entitlements.
Until an official policy exists, the conservative assumption is that a platform change may start a separate progression record. This is a planning precaution, not a claim that cross-progression will never be added.
Troubleshooting missing progress after a reinstall

What is confirmed and what is still unknown
Several facts are clear from the current release information. WARDOGS is in Steam Early Access; BULKHEAD describes that version as fully playable and representative of the game’s core vision. Season 02 launched with Update 0.2.0 on October 15, 2026, and the progression structure changed. The store page identifies cash and XP as central reward systems, and the planned console window is 2028.
Other questions remain unanswered publicly. No official document specifies a universal cloud-save guarantee, lists every field synchronized to an account, measures reinstall recovery rates, or defines Steam-to-console carry-over. The laptop synchronization report is useful real-world evidence, but one support report cannot establish behavior for every account, outage, or future build.
