Vampire Crawlers is a single-player game. Steam lists it as “Single-player,” while Nintendo’s listings for both Switch editions specify “Single system (1).” The official listings and FAQs do not document local co-op, online multiplayer, or cross-play.
That answer is separate from cross-save. Save transfers concern moving your own progression between devices; they do not let two people play together. Mobile save sharing is limited, and a broader cross-platform account system is described as planned rather than available.
The short answer
If you are deciding whether to buy Vampire Crawlers so you and a friend can play together, treat it as a solo game. There is no documented two-player mode, party mode, split-screen option, online lobby, invite system, or platform-to-platform matchmaking in the official information currently available.
Steam’s store metadata uses the explicit “Single-player” label. Nintendo’s official pages for the Switch and Switch 2 editions state “Single system (1),” meaning one player on one system. Those are positive descriptions of the supported play mode, not merely an omission of a multiplayer feature.
The publisher’s mobile FAQ answers its co-op question with a joke: “You can play with one to infinite people. One person plays, the others watch and critique your choices. :)” That describes spectators, not simultaneous or alternating playable multiplayer. A friend can watch your session, but the FAQ does not announce a co-op function.
What each official listing establishes
Steam: single-player
Steam identifies Vampire Crawlers as “Single-player.” That is the clearest storefront classification for the PC edition. It does not indicate online co-op, local co-op, shared-screen play, competitive multiplayer, or a separate multiplayer expansion.
Do not infer a multiplayer mode from other Steam features. A game can support controllers, cloud synchronization, achievements, or community functions while remaining entirely single-player. None of those labels creates a second playable character or an online session.

Nintendo Switch and Switch 2: one player on one system
Nintendo’s 2026 listings for both the Switch and Switch 2 versions state “Single system (1).” This is the platform’s player-count field: one person is listed for a single console. The wording does not describe local wireless play, split-screen, or a second-controller mode.
Having two Joy-Con controllers, two Pro Controllers, or two user profiles therefore does not change the published player count. Controller compatibility affects how one person controls the game; it is not evidence that another person can join.
Xbox and PlayStation: platform availability, not a multiplayer announcement
poncle’s Vampire Crawlers FAQ names Steam, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation among the game’s platforms. That confirms the game is distributed across several platform families, but it does not say that those versions can connect to one another or host multiplayer sessions.
Rank #2
The official material available for this question gives the strongest mode evidence through Steam’s single-player label and Nintendo’s one-player listings. It does not provide a separate Xbox or PlayStation multiplayer specification. The cautious conclusion is therefore that no multiplayer mode is documented for the console editions either.

No local co-op mode is documented. The official Nintendo player-count field is one player on one system, and Steam labels the game single-player. There is no published indication of couch co-op, shared-screen play, hot-seat turns, or a pass-the-controller mode.
That means buying a second controller is not a way to unlock co-op. The controller-support statement from poncle—“Yes. Controller support is included.”—confirms that a controller can be used, but it does not promise support for two controllers or multiple simultaneous inputs.
If another person is in the room, the supported activity described by the mobile FAQ is watching and commenting while one person plays. You may be able to take turns informally, but an informal handoff is different from a game mode that tracks two players, gives each person controls, or saves separate co-op progress.
Does it have online multiplayer or online co-op?
There is no documented online multiplayer or online co-op feature. The official store descriptions identify a solo mode, and the publisher’s FAQs do not describe online invitations, lobbies, matchmaking, friend joins, or network-host settings.

A game needs an explicitly documented network mode for that conclusion; Vampire Crawlers’ published mode information does not provide one.

Does Vampire Crawlers support cross-play?
Cross-play is not supported in the documented modes. No official page reviewed for the current release describes a way for players on different platforms to join the same Vampire Crawlers session. The available positive evidence points the other way: the game is listed as single-player on Steam and one-player on Nintendo systems.
It is more accurate to say “cross-play is not documented” than to attribute a direct “cross-play is impossible” quote to poncle. The official FAQs do not present a standalone cross-play answer. If a future update adds multiplayer, the publisher would need to specify which platforms can connect, whether cross-generation play works, and whether separate platform accounts are required.
For a purchase decision today, the practical result is the same: do not buy the game expecting to play a shared session with a friend on PC, Switch, Xbox, PlayStation, iPhone, or Android.
Cross-play versus cross-save
Cross-play and cross-save solve different problems:
- Cross-play: lets two or more people play together, often from different platforms.
- Cross-save: carries one player’s progression from one device or platform to another.
A game can offer one without the other. In this case, the documented mode is single-player, so there is no evidence of cross-play. Save-transfer work is a separate, limited feature that should not be read as a multiplayer system.
Launch cross-save status
poncle’s release FAQ said cross-save was not available at launch and that the team was looking into it for the mobile ports. That statement referred to progression transfer, not to joining another player’s game.

Mobile save sharing
The current mobile FAQ gives a narrower form of transfer: saves can be shared between Android devices or between Apple devices. It says that, at the mobile launch, saves could not be moved from PC or console to mobile.
In practical terms, an Android player should not assume that an iPhone or iPad can open the same mobile save, and a console or PC owner should not assume that the mobile edition will inherit existing progress. The documented sharing is within each mobile ecosystem, not a universal account-based sync.
The planned poncle account
poncle describes a cross-platform poncle account as planned or in development, with the goal of enabling broader cross-platform saves later. “Planned” is not the same as released: it does not currently provide multiplayer, and it does not establish that PC, console, Android, and Apple saves can already be combined.

poncle confirms that controller support is included. This is useful if you prefer a gamepad on PC, console, or a compatible mobile setup. It does not indicate a multiplayer control scheme, a second playable character, or simultaneous input from multiple controllers.

What this means in common buying situations
You want a couch co-op game
Vampire Crawlers is not a documented couch co-op choice. Nintendo lists one player on one system, and no local multiplayer feature is announced. A second copy of the game or a second controller would not, according to the official information, create a two-player session.
You and a friend own different platforms
Do not expect a shared session between Steam, Switch, Xbox, PlayStation, iOS, or Android. The platform list shows where the game exists, not a network group. Cross-play is absent from the documented modes.
You want to continue your own save on another device
That is a cross-save question, not a multiplayer question. At mobile launch, sharing is described between Android devices or between Apple devices. PC-to-mobile and console-to-mobile transfer was not available at that point, while a broader poncle account system was still planned.
You want friends to participate without controlling the game
The mobile FAQ’s playful wording supports the idea of spectators: one person plays while others watch and critique choices. Watching, streaming, or discussing a run can be social, but it is not a supported co-op mode and does not give spectators game controls.
Could the answer change after an update?
Yes. Store metadata, platform pages, and FAQs can change when a publisher adds a feature. Because the official material does not include a standalone cross-play FAQ answer, recheck the current Steam and Nintendo mode labels and poncle’s FAQs after a substantial game update or before publishing a new buying guide.
A genuine multiplayer announcement would normally identify the mode, supported platforms, account requirements, and whether local and online play are separate. Until those details appear, the reliable description remains single-player with no documented co-op, multiplayer, or cross-play.
