Truckful is conditionally offline-capable on Steam Deck, not officially guaranteed. The game is listed as single-player, and Valve says an installed Steam game can normally run without an internet connection unless that title specifically requires one. However, Truckful’s Steam Deck Compatibility status is currently Unknown, and no official Truckful statement confirms how its launch authentication behaves offline. Install it, update it and complete a connected launch before depending on it away from Wi-Fi.

What the official information says

The available evidence answers different parts of the question, so it helps to separate them. Valve’s Truckful store listing identifies the game as single-player, supports full controller input, lists SteamOS and Linux requirements, and specifies at least 2 GB of storage. The same listing marks Steam Deck Compatibility as Unknown.

Valve’s Steam Deck FAQ gives the general rule: once a game is installed on the device, it can be played while Steam Deck is offline unless that individual game requires an internet connection. Steam Support’s Offline Mode guidance adds the practical conditions: start Steam while connected, make sure the game files are current, launch each game once online, and then switch to Offline Mode. Valve also warns that a title requiring an active connection or an external launcher will not work offline.

Those statements establish a sensible procedure, but they do not constitute a Truckful-specific guarantee. No located official statement from MythicOwl confirms that Truckful always passes its launch checks without network access.

Truckful’s relevant Steam Deck facts

Item What is established Why it matters offline
Game mode Single-player on the Steam listing There is no listed multiplayer session that would inherently require a connection.
Controller support Full controller input is listed The basic control scheme is intended to work with a handheld controller, although this does not certify every Deck interaction.
Operating-system listing SteamOS and Linux requirements are listed The store page acknowledges Linux-family support, but that is separate from Valve’s Deck verification process.
Minimum storage 2 GB, according to Valve/Steam’s 2026 listing The game must be installed locally before an offline launch can be attempted; free space beyond the game size is still useful for updates and shader data.
Steam Deck Compatibility Unknown Valve has not assigned a Verified, Playable or Unsupported result on the listing, so Deck behavior is not formally characterized.
Offline authentication No Truckful-specific official confirmation located The general Steam offline rule applies conditionally rather than as a title-specific promise.

Why “single-player” does not automatically mean offline

A single-player label tells you that the core game does not depend on another player joining your session. It does not prove that the executable has no online check, launcher dependency, first-run activation step or other service requirement. Steam’s own guidance makes that distinction: installed games generally work offline, except when the particular title requires an internet connection or an external launcher.

For Truckful, the single-player designation is encouraging because the game’s main activity is not described as an online service. The missing piece is a public, Truckful-specific statement about authentication. Until MythicOwl or Valve documents that behavior, the responsible answer is “likely under Steam’s normal offline rules, but conditional,” not “yes, every time.”

How to prepare Truckful before leaving Wi-Fi

Do this while the Steam Deck has a reliable internet connection. The purpose is to remove avoidable first-run, update and license-state problems before you travel.

  1. Install Truckful to internal storage or a compatible microSD card. Confirm that Steam shows the game as installed rather than offering an install button. The store listing’s 2 GB figure is a minimum requirement, so leave additional free capacity for downloaded updates and Steam’s supporting files.
  2. Finish every pending update. In your Library, open Truckful’s game page and allow Steam to complete downloads, patching and any queued content. An offline session cannot retrieve a missing patch.
  3. Start the game once while connected. Wait until you reach the title screen or playable game state, then exit normally. This gives Steam and the game a chance to complete first-launch setup while network services are available.
  4. Allow Steam to settle. Do not put the Deck to sleep or force a shutdown while Steam is still processing an update, synchronizing files or displaying a first-run dialog. A clean exit is preferable to testing offline immediately after installation.
  5. Test the intended offline state before your trip. Use Steam’s built-in “Go Offline” command, then start Truckful from the Library. Steam client wording and menu placement can change between versions, but the relevant command is the one that explicitly switches the client to Offline Mode.
  6. Return to online mode after the test. If the test succeeds, you have verified your current installation and Steam account state on that Deck. It still is not a permanent guarantee after a major game update, Steam client change or account-security event, so repeat the check when the trip is important.

Testing matters because a first launch can involve more than downloading the game itself. If Truckful presents an activation or setup prompt while online, complete it before switching modes. Do not assume that a game which has never been opened can perform every first-run action offline.

What you can and cannot do without a connection

Action Offline expectation Condition or limitation
Launch an already installed Truckful copy Potentially available Depends on Truckful accepting Steam’s offline license state; no official Truckful-specific guarantee is published.
Play the single-player game Potentially available Requires a successful prepared launch and locally installed, current files.
Download a Truckful update Unavailable Reconnect before Steam can retrieve patches or new content.
Synchronize Steam Cloud Unavailable until connectivity returns Local saves can remain on the Deck, but cloud synchronization waits for an online session.
Use an external launcher or online-only service Unavailable if Truckful requires one Valve says games dependent on an active connection or external launcher do not work through normal Offline Mode.
Browse the Steam store, community pages or downloads Unavailable or limited These are online Steam services rather than part of the installed game.

Offline play also changes your save-management routine. Steam Cloud cannot upload a new save while disconnected. When you reconnect, allow synchronization to complete and read any conflict dialog instead of choosing a version blindly. If the same save matters on another computer, keep the Deck online long enough for Steam to confirm that the latest local files have uploaded.

How to troubleshoot a failed offline launch

Steam asks you to go online

Reconnect, let Steam finish any queued update, and launch Truckful successfully while online again. Then close the game normally and switch to Offline Mode from the Steam client. If Steam still insists on a connection, the behavior may reflect a title-specific requirement; the available official information does not provide a Truckful workaround or guarantee.

The game was installed but never opened online

This is the highest-risk setup for travel. Restore connectivity, start Truckful once, wait for the initial setup to finish, and perform a deliberate offline test before leaving. Installing files alone does not prove that first-run authentication or configuration has completed.

Truckful shows as updated, but the Deck has no space

Valve lists 2 GB as the minimum storage requirement, not as a recommended amount of free space for every update. Clear enough room for Steam to stage downloads and complete installation. Avoid deleting the local installation immediately before travel; an offline device cannot repair a partially removed game.

Your save is missing or appears older

Check whether you are viewing the local save created on the Deck or expecting a Steam Cloud copy that has not synchronized. Stay offline while playing if necessary, then reconnect and allow Steam Cloud to process the local files. Do not overwrite a newer save from another device until you have reviewed Steam’s conflict choices.

The game runs, but performance is not what you expected

Offline capability and performance certification are separate questions. A game can launch without Wi-Fi and still have graphics, frame-rate or compatibility issues on a particular Deck model or SteamOS version. Truckful’s store page currently reports Steam Deck Compatibility as Unknown, so there is no Valve verification result to use as a performance promise.

What the developer has said about Steam Deck support

MythicOwl wrote on July 25, 2024: “Good news – we’re on the right track (pun intended!) to get Truckful verified and have our pickup truck adventure run in stable 60fps on highest settings.” That statement is relevant to the developer’s goal for Deck verification and performance. It does not say that verification was completed, does not establish a stable 60fps result for every Deck, and does not address offline authentication.

Because the current Steam listing still shows Compatibility as Unknown, treat the 2024 statement as a development update rather than a present-day certification. The practical consequence is to test your own installed copy instead of relying on the performance target or assuming that “SteamOS and Linux” equals “Steam Deck Verified.”

Valve Steam Deck 1TB Upgraded Handheld Gaming Console with Carring case, 1280 x 800 OLED Display Silicone Soft Cover Protector & Joystic Cap & Tempered Glass Film Bundle
  • Valve is entering the gaming console marketplace with the new Steam Deck, a console geared towards PC gamers. The Steam Deck can be docked to a monitor, and used as a PC, or docked to a TV.
  • Players can play a huge variety of games at any time with the comfort of a console and the freedom of a PC. Not anti-glare screen.
  • Like the name suggests, the Steam Deck will include upgraded 1TB storage, and will include a carrying case. A micro SD slot will also enable expanded storage.
  • Valve partnered with AMD to create a specialized APU optimized for handheld gaming, and Valve says the chip will deliver performance to run AAA gaming titles.
  • The Steam Deck is outfitted with a 7-inch touchscreen, and two trackpads under the control sticks that allow gamers to operate games never designed outside of mouse and keyboard capabilities.

A pre-trip decision checklist

Truckful is a reasonable candidate for an offline test when all of the following are true:

  • The game is fully installed and Steam reports no pending download.
  • You have opened it successfully at least once with the Deck online.
  • You can reach the game’s title screen or gameplay before disconnecting.
  • You have switched Steam to Offline Mode and confirmed that the same installation launches.
  • You understand that updates and Steam Cloud synchronization wait until you reconnect.
  • You have enough local storage for the installation and temporary update files.

If any item is missing, keep the Deck online until it is resolved. The safest interpretation of the evidence is not that Truckful definitely fails offline, but that no official source currently removes the uncertainty for this specific title.

Bottom line

Truckful should be treated as conditionally playable offline on Steam Deck. Its single-player design and Valve’s general Offline Mode policy support the possibility, while the Unknown Deck-compatibility label and lack of a Truckful-specific offline statement prevent a categorical promise. Prepare and test it online first; then rely on offline play only after your own installation passes that test.
