Yes. The original Nintendo Switch has its own version of Toy Story: Retro Roundup!. Nintendo Canada marks that listing “Supported – Game behavior is consistent with Nintendo Switch,” so an owner of the first-generation Switch can play it without buying a Nintendo Switch 2 console.
The important buying detail is the product label: select the edition identified for Nintendo Switch, not the separate listing identified for Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo lists TV, tabletop, and handheld play for the Switch release, with one or two players on one system.
What the compatibility statement means
Nintendo’s Canada product page explicitly lists Toy Story: Retro Roundup! as supported on Nintendo Switch and describes its behavior as consistent with that system. In practical terms, the game has a native listing for the original Switch family rather than being presented only as a Nintendo Switch 2 product that might require a newer console.

A store search can show both entries, and the similar names make it easy to choose the wrong one. For an original Switch, the system name on the product card should read Nintendo Switch. A page labeled only for Nintendo Switch 2 is a different edition and should not be treated as the Switch 1 listing.

The table does not imply that the two editions have identical features; it reflects the specifications Nintendo publishes for each page. If you own the original console, the reliable check is the system label, not artwork, price, or a search result that merely contains the word “Switch.”
What is included in the collection?
Nintendo describes the package as a five-game collection while naming six individual games. The apparent mismatch comes from Toy Story 2, which is represented by both its console and handheld versions. Taken together, Nintendo says the package contains 11 console and handheld versions.

Modern features added to the retro releases
Nintendo highlights quality-of-life additions, including Rewind and Rex’s Cheat Codes. Rewind is intended to let you reverse recent gameplay mistakes, while the cheat-code feature provides an additional way to approach the older games. These are collection-level conveniences rather than evidence that the original games were rebuilt as modern releases.
Nintendo Life reports upgraded visuals and an option to use the original presentation. That gives players a choice between a refreshed look and a deliberately retro appearance. The cited Nintendo listing establishes the quality-of-life features; the visual and presentation options are reported by Nintendo Life.
Play modes and controller options on Switch
TV mode
Dock the original Switch and play on a television. Nintendo lists support for one or two players on one system. A Nintendo Switch Pro Controller is specifically listed as compatible and is an optional choice for television play, particularly if two people prefer conventional gamepads.

Tabletop mode
Set the console on its stand and use the built-in screen for local play. This is useful when a television is unavailable. The same one-to-two-player limit applies to the Switch listing.

Handheld mode
Play with the console undocked. Nintendo UK identifies the software as Nintendo Switch download software and includes handheld mode among the supported formats.
The official listing names the Pro Controller but does not provide a complete inventory of every compatible control arrangement. If your planned setup depends on a specific accessory, verify the controller information shown on the product page before purchase rather than assuming that every legacy control scheme is supported.
Download size and storage planning
Nintendo UK lists the Switch download at 6.0 GB. Before starting the download, check the free space on the console or the microSD card you intend to use. Keeping more free space than the listed file size is sensible because the system may need working room during installation, but Nintendo’s listing establishes 6.0 GB as the software size, not a guaranteed amount of additional system space.

How to buy and start it on an original Switch
- Confirm your console. You need the original Nintendo Switch family system, including the standard Switch, Switch Lite, or Switch OLED model. The product label you select should say Nintendo Switch; do not rely on a generic search result that also displays a Switch 2 edition.
- Open Nintendo eShop on the console. Search for Toy Story: Retro Roundup! and open the product page. Check the system designation before proceeding.
- Verify the listing details. For the original-Switch entry, look for TV, tabletop, and handheld modes, one-to-two-player support, and the 6.0 GB download size shown by Nintendo UK. Regional pages can present information differently, so the system label is the decisive check.
- Check storage. Make sure the console or selected microSD card has enough available space for a 6.0 GB download and installation overhead. If space is tight, free storage before beginning rather than interrupting the installation.
- Complete the download and launch the software. After installation, start the collection from the Switch home menu and select the game you want to play.
- Choose your setup. Use TV, tabletop, or handheld mode. For local two-player sessions, use the control arrangement supported by your console; Nintendo specifically lists the Switch Pro Controller as compatible.
- Use the collection features as needed. Rewind can help recover from a mistake, while Rex’s Cheat Codes provide optional assistance. The reported visual settings let you choose upgraded visuals or the original presentation.

Buying the Switch 2 listing by accident
Symptom: The product page identifies Nintendo Switch 2 instead of Nintendo Switch.
Fix: Return to the search results and open the entry whose system field says Nintendo Switch. Nintendo publishes separate pages, so do not assume the newer listing is the correct one for the original console.
Assuming “five games” means only five named releases
Symptom: You expect five individual game files and think the sixth named title indicates an error.

Running out of storage during installation
Symptom: The download cannot complete despite purchasing the correct edition.
Fix: Check available console or microSD storage and clear enough room for the listed 6.0 GB download plus installation overhead, then retry.
Expecting every controller detail to be listed
Symptom: You need a particular accessory but the product page does not mention it.

What an original Switch owner should decide
Choose the Nintendo Switch edition if you want to play on the first-generation console. It provides the three listed play modes, local one-to-two-player support, the six named releases represented as 11 versions, and the collection’s rewind and cheat-code features. The separate Switch 2 page is relevant only when shopping for that newer system’s edition; it should not replace the Nintendo Switch listing in an original-console purchase.
