As of October 18, 2026, neither option is confirmed. There is no official evidence that the reported Shrek 2 Remastered requires Xbox Game Pass, and there is no confirmed price or purchase listing showing that you can buy it permanently on Xbox.
GamesRadar reported on October 17, 2026, that a now-deleted Xbox Store listing revealed Shrek 2 Remastered, associated with Aspyr. That report had no release date or pricing details. The current Xbox Game Pass catalogue and Aspyr’s official games and press pages do not show a confirmed remaster listing, so any answer about subscription access, outright ownership or pre-orders would be speculation until Microsoft or Aspyr publishes a live product page.
What is confirmed about the reported Shrek remaster?
The project identified in the GamesRadar report is a remaster of Shrek 2: The Game, the 2004 tie-in game that originally appeared on Xbox. The report attributed the listing to Aspyr, a publisher known for remastered and ported games, but the listing was subsequently deleted.

What the available evidence does not establish
- No release date has been announced in the reported information.
- No purchase price, edition price or pre-order price has been published.
- No official statement confirms inclusion in any Game Pass plan.
- No official statement says Game Pass will be required to play it.
- No live Aspyr product page currently identifies the remaster.
- No current Xbox Game Pass catalogue entry confirms the game.
Those gaps matter because an Xbox Store placeholder is not the same as a completed listing. Commercial terms can change between an early database entry and launch, and a project can be delayed or canceled without the deleted page becoming a public announcement.
Does Shrek 2 Remastered require Game Pass?
There is no evidence that Game Pass will be mandatory. Game Pass is normally an access option for eligible games, not a general requirement for playing Xbox titles. A future product could be sold separately, included with a particular Game Pass tier, offered through both routes or released without any subscription access. The reported listing does not tell us which model Microsoft and Aspyr will use.

- Inclusion: whether the game would be part of a specific Game Pass catalogue.
- Purchase: whether you could obtain a permanent digital license or a physical copy without subscribing.
Nothing currently confirms any of those outcomes for the remaster. If the game is eventually added to Game Pass, that still would not automatically mean a subscription is the only way to play it; many catalogue titles can also be purchased. Conversely, a game can be sold on the Xbox Store without appearing in Game Pass.

Is Shrek 2 Remastered included with Xbox Game Pass?
The official Game Pass catalogue currently has no confirmed entry for the reported remaster. That absence means the game should not be treated as included, either now or at launch. A deleted store page cannot substitute for a catalogue announcement because Game Pass availability is tied to a specific plan, platform and region.
Xbox’s catalogue notice says: “Game titles, number, features, and availability vary over time, by region, XBOX Game Pass plan and platform.” That qualification will be essential if a listing appears later. A future announcement could cover only certain plans, only Xbox Series X|S, only Xbox One, or only selected markets.
What to check if a Game Pass listing appears
- The exact Game Pass plan named on the product or catalogue page.
- Whether the listing applies to console, PC or cloud play.
- Whether Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S are both supported.
- Your account’s country or region, because catalogue rights can differ.
- Whether the game is a permanent catalogue addition or has a stated removal date.
Do not infer inclusion from a search result, a social-media post or a retailer description. The plan name and supported platform should appear on an official Xbox listing before you rely on the subscription route.

Can you buy the remaster outright on Xbox?
That purchase option is also unconfirmed. There is no published price or live product page showing a Buy button for Shrek 2 Remastered. Until an official listing goes live, nobody can reliably state whether the game will be a standard digital purchase, a physical release, a premium edition, a bundle or a subscription-only launch.

A permanent purchase would normally be identified by a price and an ownership or purchase action on the Xbox Store. The final page should also state the edition, supported consoles and any included add-ons. Those details are not available in the current evidence.

Do not use listings for “Shrek 2 Xbox game” as proof of a remaster price. Those results are likely to describe the original 2004 release, often as a used physical game, and should be labeled as the original game rather than the reported remaster.
How to verify the official answer when details arrive
Use the following checks before paying for a subscription or placing a pre-order.
- Search the Xbox Store directly. On an Xbox console, open the Store and search for the exact title Shrek 2 Remastered. On the official Xbox Store website, use the same exact-title search. Avoid relying on an old search-engine cache or a retailer’s automatically generated page.
- Check the publisher and product identity. Confirm that the page identifies the remaster, rather than the 2004 Shrek 2: The Game, and check whether Aspyr is listed as publisher. A cover image alone is not enough to establish which version is being sold.
- Read the commercial fields. Look for the release date, price, edition name, purchase button and supported platforms. If any of those fields are missing, the page may still be a placeholder rather than a final offer.
- Check Game Pass separately. Open the current Game Pass catalogue and search for the exact title. Verify the plan named on the result; do not assume that access on one plan or platform extends to every plan.
- Confirm your region. Check the storefront country associated with your Microsoft account. Xbox states that titles, features and availability can vary by region, plan and platform.
- Review the pre-order terms. If a pre-order button appears, read the stated release date, payment timing, cancellation rules, included bonuses and supported consoles before confirming it.
A reliable answer should be reproducible from a live Microsoft listing or a formal Aspyr announcement. If those pages disagree, treat the more specific store and publisher information as the starting point, then check for a dated correction or update.

How to compare buying with Game Pass once pricing is published
When commercial details are available, compare the two routes using the same edition and platform. A low introductory subscription price may look cheaper than a purchase, but the comparison changes if you plan to keep playing after the game leaves the catalogue.

No pre-order date is available. GamesRadar’s report specifically noted that neither a release date nor pricing details had been provided, and the Xbox Store listing it described was deleted. A pre-order should not be considered open merely because a page once appeared in a store database.

- A release date or launch window supplied by Microsoft or Aspyr.
- Clear platform information for Xbox One and/or Xbox Series X|S.
- Published terms explaining payment, cancellation and included content.
If one of those elements is absent, wait for a formal update rather than paying a third-party seller or assuming that an automatically generated listing is authorized.
Original Shrek 2 game versus the reported remaster
The distinction matters because the original game is already encountered in used-game listings and search results. It launched in 2004 and is not evidence that the remastered version is available.

Wait for a live Xbox Store or Aspyr listing that gives a price, edition and platform details. Until then, a purchase claim cannot be verified.
If you see a retailer listing
Check the title, year, publisher and product description carefully. A listing for the original Xbox game may use similar wording and imagery. Do not treat it as the remaster unless it identifies the remastered edition and matches an official announcement.
If you are waiting for a pre-order
Use Microsoft or Aspyr announcements as the confirmation point. The deleted listing reported on October 17, 2026, does not provide a pre-order date.
The practical answer
