No. In LTT Labs’ October 2026 test, an iPhone 18 Pro charged nearly as quickly with a non-AVS UGREEN Nexode 140W adapter as with Apple’s AVS-capable 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max. Apple’s charger was only a minute or two faster in that comparison. That result applies to the two tested adapters—not every charger described as non-AVS.
What the iPhone 18 Pro charging test found
LTT Labs compared Apple’s 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max against a UGREEN Nexode 140W USB adapter that it says does not support SPR AVS. The lab reported very similar times for the iPhone 18 Pro to reach 10%, 50%, and 90% charge, with Apple’s adapter ahead by about a minute or two. LTT Labs’ October 5, 2026 comparison used a USB protocol analyzer to measure voltage and current at the port and calculated charge percentages from delivered energy.
This is evidence that the tested non-AVS adapter can come close to Apple’s adapter for the iPhone 18 Pro. It is not proof that any 40–50 W charger, any USB-PD version, or any port on a multiport charger will deliver the same charging curve.
Why a non-AVS adapter kept up in this test
Wattage printed on a charger does not tell the whole story: the phone and adapter negotiate an output voltage and current, and the phone’s behavior at that negotiated profile matters. LTT Labs measured the iPhone 18 Pro requesting SPR AVS at 17.0–17.5 V from Apple’s adapter, while it requested 15 V at 3 A from the UGREEN. The Pro drew just under 2.5 A at peak on Apple’s AVS mode; on the UGREEN’s 15 V profile, it could draw more current and reach around 40 W, according to the lab.

That helps explain why the non-AVS charger was close in the reported test despite using a different negotiated mode. It does not establish that all chargers with a nominal 40–50 W rating can sustain the needed output on the port you use. Check the specific port’s output profiles and, where available, evidence from a test of your phone model.
What Apple’s 15-minute claim requires
Apple’s claim is separate from the LTT Labs comparison. Apple says iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max can reach 50% in around 15 minutes using the USB-C cable included with the phone and either the Apple 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max or a comparable adapter rated for at least 60 W that supports USB-PD 3.2 and AVS. Apple says it tested preproduction iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max units and software in July 2026, using a drained phone and its 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max (Model A3351). Its measurement began when the Apple logo appeared, and Apple notes that actual results vary with the adapter, settings, usage, and environmental conditions. The LTT Labs result does not show that the non-AVS UGREEN setup achieved Apple’s stated 15-minute figure; it shows that its charging times were close to Apple’s in that lab’s comparison.

Not just because it lacks AVS. If you already own a USB-PD charger with a suitable output profile, the LTT Labs comparison suggests you may get similar results with an iPhone 18 Pro. Verify the output available from the port you plan to use rather than relying on the adapter’s headline wattage alone. If your goal is to reproduce Apple’s around-15-minute-to-50% claim, use the cable and AVS-capable setup Apple specifies.

ChargerLAB’s September 30, 2026 iPhone 18 Pro charging review also describes around 40 W charging and 50% in 15 minutes with the right charger, but its accessible information does not provide a detailed numerical non-AVS-versus-AVS comparison. It therefore does not broaden the two-adapter result into a general finding about non-AVS chargers.

Do not automatically apply the iPhone 18 Pro result to the iPhone 18 Pro Max. LTT Labs notes a somewhat different outcome for the Pro Max: it already approached 3 A on the higher-voltage AVS mode, changing the comparison with the non-AVS adapter. Apple’s 15-minute claim covers both models under its specified AVS setup, but the independent comparison discussed here concerns charger behavior in the lab’s tests, not every model-and-adapter combination.
