It extends the console’s play time; it does not replace the console battery or eliminate the need to recharge the grip.
What happens when the grip is charging your Switch 2
The ENA019 combines a precision-fit handheld shell, ergonomic grips and an internal battery. Once the grip is attached and switched on with stored power, it sends power to the Switch 2 through its USB-C connection while the console remains in handheld mode. Your game continues running normally; charging does not require pausing, sleeping or removing the console.
This is a battery-to-console transfer. The grip’s battery must already contain energy. Belkin does not describe the accessory as a replacement battery for the Switch 2, and its published “up to 1.5x recharge” figure is an estimate of how much additional console charging the battery can provide under stated conditions, not a guarantee of a particular number of extra hours.

Belkin’s published wording is direct: “The device will charge the console during gameplay.” Its product information also says “Charge and play simultaneously.” Those statements apply to the ENA019 used with the Nintendo Switch 2 in handheld mode.

The watt-hour and milliamp-hour figures are two ways of describing the battery and should not be added together. Watt-hours account for energy at a stated voltage, while milliamp-hours describe charge capacity at a battery voltage. The 38.7 Wh and 10,000 mAh figures come from different pieces of Belkin product information, so treat them as published ratings rather than a promise of identical usable output after conversion.
How to use the charging grip in handheld mode
Belkin’s instructions make the setup straightforward. Complete the charging step before leaving with the console, because the retail package does not include a wall charger or a separate charging cable.

- Charge the grip’s internal battery. Use a suitable USB-C charger and cable. The grip is not ready to extend play time until its own battery has power.
- Check the battery indicator. Confirm that the indicator shows available charge. If it is empty, charging the Switch 2 from the grip cannot begin.
- Attach the Switch 2 securely. Seat the console in the ENA019 according to the user guide, ensuring that it is fully engaged and the USB-C connection is aligned.
- Choose handheld mode. The grip is intended for the console installed in the handheld configuration, with the screen and controls accessible from the front.
- Start or resume your game. You do not need to stop gameplay for the grip to supply power. Monitor the console’s charging symbol and the grip’s indicator during the session.
- Remove the grip when its battery is depleted. The accessory supplements the Switch 2 battery. When the grip runs out, the console continues only on its remaining internal charge.
Use a charger and cable rated for the USB-C Power Delivery requirements of the grip. Belkin specifies the grip’s output as up to 30 W, but that number describes the accessory’s maximum published output, not a requirement that every charger or every game will draw 30 W continuously.

Integrated fit and balance
A conventional power bank sits outside the console and normally requires a cable hanging from the Switch 2. Kickstand and dock use
The grip supports the Switch 2 kickstand and is described as dock compatible. Those functions depend on using the Switch 2-compatible hardware as intended; do not assume that an accessory made for the original Switch will provide the same clearance or connector alignment.

Practical limits and expectations
The grip needs its own charging routine
Because the internal battery is charged separately, remember to recharge the ENA019 after a long session. The absence of an included wall charger or separate cable means you must already have compatible charging equipment. Active games draw power while the grip is connected. Charging during play may slow the rate at which the console battery falls or raise its percentage, but the exact behavior depends on the game and power conditions. The accessory’s purpose is extended play while you continue using the console, not instant charging under every load.

Switch 2-only fit matters
Nintendo’s compatibility guidance distinguishes Switch 2 hardware and accessories from the original Switch generation. Do not buy the ENA019 expecting it to fit an original Switch, and do not substitute an original-Switch grip without checking its physical and electrical compatibility with Switch 2.
Troubleshooting charging during a session
- The console is not charging: stop play briefly and reseat the Switch 2 in the grip. Check that the grip’s indicator shows battery power and that the connector is fully aligned.
