No. The Star Wars: Galactic Racer FAQ says split-screen multiplayer is not supported, so two people cannot play together on one console and one display. The game does offer online multiplayer with crossplay, but that requires separate devices and connections and is not couch co-op.

What the game’s FAQ actually says

The direct answer comes from the Star Wars: Galactic Racer FAQ: split-screen multiplayer is not supported. In practical terms, there is no local multiplayer mode in which two or more players share one console and television, monitor, or other display.

This is a statement about the game’s multiplayer features, not a claim that the console hardware cannot display two views. Adding a second controller, buying a different edition, or moving from one platform to another does not create a local split-screen mode. Unless a later developer or publisher update changes the feature set, a single-console household should treat the game as single-player locally.

The FAQ is hosted in a community forum rather than presented as a platform technical specification. It is the source that directly answers the split-screen question, so it should be read precisely: it describes the support status reported in that FAQ. Check for a newer developer or publisher FAQ if you are making a purchase after a major update.

Local co-op, split-screen, and online multiplayer are different

Local co-op or couch multiplayer

Local co-op means players are physically together and use the same game installation, console, and display. A split-screen implementation divides that display into separate viewpoints, while some games use a shared camera or a single playfield instead. Both are forms of local play because the players do not need separate internet-connected systems.

Galactic Racer does not advertise or document such a mode in the cited FAQ. Consequently, two people cannot sit at one PS5 or Xbox Series X|S and start a two-player race by connecting another controller.

Online multiplayer

Online multiplayer puts each participant on a separate device or console and connects them over the internet. Players may be in the same room, but the game is still using separate systems and separate game sessions. That arrangement is not local co-op, even when everyone is physically together.

Crossplay

Crossplay allows players on supported platforms to join the same online session. The FAQ describes crossplay between PC and consoles. Crossplay therefore broadens who can meet online; it does not provide a second viewport on one screen and does not remove the need for a separate device and connection for each participant.

What multiplayer is available instead

Online parties currently support up to three players

The game FAQ says online multiplayer currently supports parties of up to three players. That number applies to an online party, not to local players sharing a console. Each participant should plan on using a separate supported platform and network connection.

A six-player increase was announced as a plan

The same FAQ says the developers planned to raise the online party limit to six in a future update targeted at the first few weeks after launch. This is a stated plan, not confirmation that the change has shipped. It also concerns online party capacity only; it is not evidence of split-screen support.

It introduces powerful new features such as gyro settings, stick curve adjustments, and button-to-mouse mapping, giving you deeper customization and more control than ever before.

Because the planned increase is time-sensitive, verify the latest official patch notes or FAQ before relying on six-player parties. Do not infer a local player count from an online limit, and do not assume that an update that expands online parties changes the rendering, controller, or display architecture needed for couch play.

What an online session requires

  • A separate supported device for every participant.
  • A game entitlement or edition that permits online play on that platform, subject to the platform holder’s account and network rules.
  • An internet connection for each participant.
  • An online party or matchmaking session rather than a local split-screen lobby.

The FAQ establishes crossplay and online party sizes, but it does not state a local fallback mode. If one player lacks a second device or connection, online crossplay cannot substitute for local co-op.

Platforms and launch context

StarWars.com’s launch announcement said the game was available worldwide on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Steam lists October 6, 2026, as the release date. Storefront availability, regional release timing, and edition contents can change, so check the relevant store page for your country before purchasing.

Platform Launch context reported Local split-screen status Online crossplay context
PlayStation 5 Listed in the worldwide launch announcement. Not supported according to the game FAQ. Described by the FAQ as part of crossplay between consoles and PC.
Xbox Series X|S Listed in the worldwide launch announcement. Not supported according to the game FAQ. Described by the FAQ as part of crossplay between consoles and PC.
PC Listed in the worldwide launch announcement; Steam lists October 6, 2026, as the release date. Not supported according to the game FAQ. Can participate in the crossplay described by the FAQ.

The table separates platform availability from multiplayer behavior. Being listed on the same platform as a friend does not imply that both of you can play on one machine, and being on different platforms does not prevent an online session when crossplay is enabled.

Physical editions do not add couch play

The game FAQ identifies physical Standard and Deluxe editions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It also identifies a physical Collector’s Edition for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. These are product formats, not multiplayer upgrades.

Physical edition Platforms named by the FAQ Does it add split-screen?
Standard PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S No; the FAQ’s no-split-screen answer applies.
Deluxe PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S No; edition tier does not change the local multiplayer feature.
Collector’s PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC No; purchasing a Collector’s Edition does not add local co-op.

The FAQ does not establish current retailer stock, regional packaging, or whether every physical edition remains available. Confirm the platform, region, edition name, and stock with the retailer before ordering. None of those checks changes the local-play limitation.

How to check before buying or installing

If local play is a deciding requirement, use this sequence rather than relying on a box image, a multiplayer icon, or an assumption that a racing game must support two controllers:

  1. Read the latest game FAQ. Look specifically for “split-screen,” “local multiplayer,” “couch co-op,” or “local co-op.” The cited FAQ answers split-screen negatively; a newer official notice would take precedence for a later purchase.
  2. Inspect the platform store description. Confirm whether multiplayer is described as online, local, or both. A generic “multiplayer” label is not enough to establish shared-screen play.
  3. Check the platform and edition. Verify whether you are buying the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or PC version and whether the listing is Standard, Deluxe, or Collector’s. Edition names do not imply additional local modes.
  4. Separate online capacity from local capacity. The FAQ’s party figures—currently up to three online, with six planned—describe network sessions. They do not answer how many players can share one display.
  5. Confirm the hardware arrangement you actually need. If your plan involves one console, one display, and two controllers, require an explicit local or split-screen listing. If each player can use a separate device, online crossplay may meet the requirement instead.

This process prevents a common purchase mistake: interpreting “multiplayer” as “two-player split-screen” when the documented feature is online play only.

Common situations and the correct expectation

Two people, one PS5 or Xbox

This setup does not provide a supported two-player race. Connecting a second controller cannot create a mode the game does not include.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Two consoles in the same home

This can fit the online model if each player has a separate supported console, game access, account setup, and internet connection. Sitting in the same room does not turn the session into local co-op; it remains online multiplayer.

One PC and one console

The FAQ’s crossplay description is relevant to this arrangement. Each participant still needs a separate device and connection, and both must be able to join the same online party.

Three online players today

The FAQ’s current limit is a party of up to three online players. That figure should not be used as a promise that three people can share one screen.

Six players after a future update

Treat six as the announced target until an official update confirms delivery. Even if the online limit reaches six, the local split-screen answer remains unchanged unless a separate announcement explicitly adds local play.

Buying a more expensive edition

Standard, Deluxe, and Collector’s labels describe edition offerings identified by the FAQ. They do not supply a local multiplayer feature, so paying more cannot solve the one-console requirement.

Why an online-player increase does not imply split-screen

Online party size and local display support are separate design decisions. Increasing an online limit changes how many network clients can join a session. Split-screen requires the game to run multiple simultaneous viewpoints, provide local input handling, allocate screen space, and present a local lobby or race flow. The FAQ’s planned increase addresses only the first category.

For buyers, the practical rule is simple: accept an explicit local-play statement as evidence of couch co-op, not an online number, a crossplay label, or a marketing phrase such as “multiplayer.” No such local statement is provided for Galactic Racer in the cited FAQ.

What to verify after launch

The release context is unusually recent: Steam lists October 6, 2026, and the current date is October 17, 2026. Features can be clarified in early patches, so check dated communications when your purchase depends on local play.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Look for a publisher or developer announcement that explicitly says “local multiplayer” or “split-screen,” not merely “multiplayer improvements.”
  • Check patch notes for a local lobby, couch mode, shared-screen race, or multiple local controller support.
  • Confirm whether any statement applies to all platforms or only one edition or console.
  • Distinguish a corrected FAQ from the earlier planned online-party expansion.

If no explicit local-play announcement appears, the safest expectation remains that the game is single-player locally and multiplayer online.

Buying decision for households that need couch co-op

Do not buy Star Wars: Galactic Racer expecting two-player split-screen on one console. The documented feature set supports online sessions and crossplay, which is suitable for friends who can each use a separate device. It is unsuitable for a household whose requirement is two controllers, one console, and one screen.

If your priority is online racing, choose the platform and edition that fit your group, then verify the current party limit and crossplay status before starting. If your priority is local co-op, wait for an explicit official announcement of that mode or choose a different game whose store description clearly lists local or split-screen multiplayer. No controller accessory or physical edition can substitute for built-in software support.

Sources and scope of this answer

The split-screen status, online party figures, crossplay description, and physical-edition platform details come from the Star Wars: Galactic Racer FAQ. StarWars.com’s “Star Wars: Galactic Racer – Available Now” announcement supplies the worldwide PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC launch context. Steam’s STAR WARS: Galactic Racer listing supplies the October 6, 2026 release date. The PlayStation product page provides official PS5 product context.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

None of these details establishes retailer stock, regional pricing, a local player count, or a shipped six-player update. Those items must be checked in the current store listing or dated official update for your region. The FAQ is the direct source for the no-split-screen answer, so attribute that conclusion to the FAQ rather than treating it as a universal console specification.

Bottom line

Star Wars: Galactic Racer does not support local split-screen multiplayer according to its FAQ. Online crossplay is the available alternative, with parties of up to three players currently and a planned increase to six that should be treated as unconfirmed until shipped. Every online participant needs a separate supported device and connection, and no physical edition adds couch co-op.
