Star Wars: Galactic Racer has early review buzz that makes it a plausible Game of the Year contender—but that is a prediction, not evidence of a nomination or win. GamingBible reported a Metacritic score of 88 on October 3, 2026, three days before the game’s release. The 2026 Game Awards ceremony is scheduled for December 10, and the available sources do not establish that the game has been nominated.
Which Star Wars game is the claim about?
The likely subject is Star Wars: Galactic Racer, a racing game set on Jakku. StarWars.com describes it as featuring new characters, locations, and vehicles. The publisher announced a worldwide release for October 6, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. StarWars.com’s game announcement identifies the title and platforms.

What does the early review reception show?
GamingBible reported a Metacritic score of 88 on October 3, 2026, and described the game as a “solid GOTY contender.” Its review called Star Wars Galactic Racer “an electrifying take on one of the best spin-offs in the franchise.” These are the outlet’s review and characterization at that time, not an awards-body decision. GamingBible’s October 3 report is a dated snapshot; the score can change as more reviews are added.

The available sources do not confirm a nomination or a win. The Game Awards 2026 ceremony is scheduled for December 10, 2026, but strong reviews and a high aggregate score do not themselves establish awards status. The announced ceremony date is distinct from confirmation of a nomination.

- Lego Star Wars Skywalker Saga PS5
So “a real shot” is best read as a forecast based on early reception. It is too soon to present it as a confirmed finalist or winner.
Is this the first Star Wars GOTY shot in 23 years?
That historical framing is not verified by the sources cited here. It also needs a clearly specified award: “Game of the Year” can refer to The Game Awards’ category, another publication’s annual award, or a broader informal label. Without naming the award and checking the historical record against it, the 23-year claim should not be repeated as fact. The claim’s historical comparison remains unestablished.

How to interpret the GOTY claim
| Evidence | What it supports | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| GamingBible’s October 3, 2026 report of a Metacritic score of 88 | Positive early review reception at that time | A fixed score, nomination, or award |
| GamingBible’s “solid GOTY contender” description | That outlet’s forecast | An official Game Awards status |
| Game Awards 2026 ceremony scheduled for December 10 | When the ceremony is due to take place | That Galactic Racer is nominated or will win |
On the evidence available, Star Wars: Galactic Racer has a credible early case to be discussed as a potential contender. Whether it becomes a formal Game of the Year nominee—or wins—remains unknown.
