Yes, the PS5 edition of Squad has opt-in crossplay, but its scope depends on the server: PS5 and Xbox players meet on Official Console crossplay servers, while PC players can join only eligible community servers running the console ruleset. The console version does not support mouse and keyboard. Online play requires the platform’s multiplayer subscription; the UK PlayStation Store listing specifically says PS Plus is required. The product currently available on PS5 is an alpha preview released October 16, 2026, and Offworld Industries has not announced the full launch date.

How Squad crossplay works on PS5
Crossplay in Squad is a server-based system rather than a universal switch that places every player in one matchmaking pool. Offworld Industries describes the console and PC versions as part of a shared “One Squad” future, but it separates servers by ruleset so that console players use an experience designed for the console release.
PS5 and Xbox play together on Official Console servers
PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S players can join one another on Official Console crossplay servers. This is the clearest cross-platform route: if everyone is on a console and crossplay is enabled, select an Official Console server marked for crossplay. The developer’s FAQ explicitly calls this feature opt-in, so a player who leaves crossplay disabled will not be placed into that cross-platform pool.
“PlayStation and Xbox players will also be able to play together through opt-in crossplay on Official Console servers,” Offworld Industries says in its console FAQ dated October 15, 2026. That wording matters because it identifies both the supported console pairing and the server category required for it.

- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
PC access is limited to console-ruleset community servers
PC friends can play with console users, but not by entering ordinary PC servers. A console player with crossplay enabled may join an eligible community-hosted server configured with the console-specific ruleset. PC players must look for those servers in a separate section of the server browser. In practice, the PC friend needs to find the same eligible server rather than inviting the PS5 player into a standard PC match.
This restriction protects the console ruleset from being mixed indiscriminately with the wider PC server pool. It also means that a server visible to a PC player is not automatically available to a PS5 player. If the server is not identified as an eligible console-ruleset community server, it should not be treated as a PS5/PC crossplay option.
What “opt-in” means for a PS5 player
Crossplay must be enabled on the console account or in the game’s console settings before the player can use the cross-platform server categories. The FAQ confirms the requirement but does not publish a permanent menu path, and labels can change during an alpha preview. Use the crossplay control exposed by the current PS5 build, then return to the server browser and choose the appropriate Official Console or eligible community listing.

- Start the PS5 Alpha Preview and open the game’s settings or online-play options.
- Turn on the available crossplay option. If it is off, console crossplay servers will not be available to that player.
- For an Xbox friend, select an Official Console crossplay server.
- For a PC friend, select an eligible community server that uses the console ruleset; ask the PC player to find that same server in the separate console-server section.
- If the server does not appear, verify its ruleset and eligibility before assuming the feature is broken.
Can you use a keyboard and mouse on Squad PS5?
No. Offworld Industries answers the console FAQ question “Will console support mouse and keyboard?” with “No.” The PS5 version therefore uses a controller-based input scheme rather than offering the mouse aiming and keyboard bindings available on PC.

What that means in a tactical shooter
You will need to manage movement, aiming, communication and equipment through the DualSense controller. A controller is not an optional fallback for a mouse-and-keyboard mode; it is the supported input method for the console edition. Players moving from PC should expect to rebuild their muscle memory around analogue aiming, trigger control and the controller layout supplied by the console build.
The US PlayStation Store listing for the Alpha Preview specifically notes DualSense wireless-controller vibration support. That feature is part of the PS5 presentation, but it does not imply compatibility with USB keyboards, USB mice or adapters that translate those devices into controller signals.
Should you buy an adapter?
No official support is documented for keyboard-and-mouse adapters, and the developer’s answer rules out mouse and keyboard support on the console version. An adapter could also create input-detection, fairness or account-support problems, so it is not a dependable workaround. If you want the console version, plan around a standard DualSense controller. If physical mouse-and-keyboard input is essential, the PC edition remains the platform designed for that control method.

The UK PlayStation Store listing states, “PS Plus required for online play.” Because Squad is an online multiplayer game, a PS5 player should have an active PlayStation Plus subscription before attempting to join a match through the Alpha Preview.

- Ultra Customizable Controls
- Mappable Back Buttons
- DualSense Wireless Controller Features Built In
- Replaceable Stick Modules and Caps
Offworld Industries phrases the general policy this way: “Squad is an online multiplayer game, so the standard online multiplayer requirements of each console platform will apply.” The UK store entry is the explicit PS5-region confirmation. Store requirements can vary by country, account type or later product status, so check the PlayStation Store page for your own region if the subscription prompt differs from the UK wording.
What PS Plus does and does not provide
PS Plus satisfies the platform-level requirement to access online multiplayer; it is not a separate Squad subscription. The available information does not describe an offline campaign that bypasses the platform requirement. Fireteam is described as a five-player PvE mode, which is still multiplayer and therefore falls under the console’s online-access rules when played online.
What is available on PS5 right now?
The PS5 product currently listed is an Alpha Preview, not the final console release. The US PlayStation Store records an October 16, 2026 release date for that preview and lists support for up to 99 online players, along with DualSense vibration. Offworld Industries has not announced the full launch date for the finished PS5 and Xbox Series X|S edition.
Why the alpha label matters
An alpha preview can change before launch. Server labels, settings placement, balancing, performance and the presentation of player limits may be revised. Treat the compatibility rules above as the developer’s announced direction, while recognizing that an alpha build is not a promise that every menu or matchmaking detail will remain identical.

Digital-only distribution
Offworld Industries says, “Squad on console will be a digital-only product.” No physical PS5 edition has been announced. That means the legitimate console purchase path is a digital storefront listing; a disc release should not be expected unless the developer later changes its distribution plan.
Player counts and game modes
| Mode or listing | Published figure | What the figure represents |
|---|---|---|
| Console PvP | Up to 100 players | Offworld Industries’ console FAQ description of supported PvP matches. |
| Fireteam PvE | Five players | The FAQ’s stated Fireteam team size. |
| PS5 Alpha Preview store listing | Up to 99 online players | The number displayed on the US PlayStation Store page for the preview. |
The 100-player FAQ figure and the store listing’s 99-player figure should not be treated as a confirmed contradiction. They may describe the same match using different counting conventions, such as whether the displayed number counts every participant or only other online players. The official sources do not explain the difference, so use the store page’s 99-player label when checking the current Alpha Preview listing and the FAQ’s 100-player figure when discussing the announced console PvP capacity.

Troubleshooting common crossplay problems
“My Xbox friend cannot see my server”
Check that crossplay is enabled for the PS5 player and that both players are browsing Official Console crossplay servers. A server intended only for one console platform, or a listing outside the Official Console category, will not provide the advertised PS5-to-Xbox route.
“My PC friend cannot join our PS5 match”
Move out of the ordinary PC server list and choose an eligible community-hosted server with the console ruleset. The PC player must search the separate section for those servers, while the PS5 player must have crossplay enabled. A normal PC server is not automatically compatible with the console edition.

“The crossplay option or server category is missing”
Remember that the product is an Alpha Preview. Confirm that the game is updated, restart the title after changing the setting, and check the server’s ruleset label. If the current build uses different wording, follow the in-game label that identifies console crossplay or console-ruleset servers; the FAQ does not guarantee a fixed location for the control.
“I can launch the game but cannot join a match”
Verify the online subscription requirement for your account region. In the UK, the PlayStation Store explicitly requires PS Plus for online play. Also check PlayStation Network service status and the preview’s server availability before treating the problem as a crossplay fault.
Bottom line for PS5 buyers
Squad on PS5 is designed for controller play and selective cross-platform matchmaking. Choose it if your group is comfortable using DualSense and can meet on the correct Official Console or console-ruleset community server. Do not buy it expecting unrestricted access to PC servers or a supported keyboard-and-mouse setup. For the current product, budget for the applicable online subscription, remember that the store listing is an Alpha Preview rather than a final-release date, and plan on a digital purchase because no physical console edition has been announced.
