No, not every SimpliSafe alarm automatically results in a police dispatch. A siren sounding and emergency responders being requested are separate events. With professional monitoring, the monitoring center’s response depends on the alarm type, whether someone disarms or cancels it, the plan and verification available, and local rules. Even when SimpliSafe requests dispatch, that does not guarantee police will be sent or arrive.

What happens when a monitored burglary alarm goes off?

For an alarm that is not quickly disarmed, SimpliSafe’s support guidance says primary contacts may receive an Alarm Text, and the first primary contact may receive a call from the monitoring center. The exact steps depend on the monitoring plan and alarm type. That call is to a customer contact; it is not the same as a call to police. Contacts may be able to cancel the alarm or request help through supported text or app workflows. If a contact cancels by text before the center calls, SimpliSafe says the center does not need to call.

Monitoring personnel may take verification steps, such as trying to contact an account holder or reviewing available alarm-related video or audio. SimpliSafe’s terms give monitoring personnel discretion over whether to report an alarm to authorities or another responder. So, not answering a call does not by itself establish that police will be dispatched.

SimpliSafe’s alarm-response guidance and its Terms of Service describe a conditional process, not a guarantee that every siren leads to police being called.

Does SimpliSafe call police if you do not answer?

Not necessarily. For a burglary alarm, the monitoring center may try to contact account contacts and use available verification, but the terms say personnel may decide whether or not to report an alarm. Local requirements can also affect whether police dispatch is requested. Do not treat a missed call as proof that police are on their way.

For supported Alarm Text workflows, replying to request emergency services sends that request to monitoring agents, who begin working on dispatch. That is a request process, not confirmation of responder attendance. See SimpliSafe’s Alarm Text instructions for the applicable workflow.

How alarm type changes the response

Burglary or intrusion alarm

A monitored intrusion alarm can prompt contact attempts and verification before the center decides whether to request dispatch. Quick disarming can stop that path. Local rules may require visual verification before police are requested.

Smoke alarm

SimpliSafe says that if a smoke alarm is not answered or canceled at the keypad in a timely manner, monitoring will automatically request dispatch from the local fire department to the system address on file. This specific rule is about smoke alarms; it should not be assumed to apply identically to every carbon-monoxide event. Life-safety texts and app push notifications provide alerts, but SimpliSafe says they are not a way to cancel or request dispatch.

Duress PIN

On a plan that includes 24/7 emergency dispatch, entering a Duress PIN causes monitoring to request dispatch immediately. The system does not sound a siren or send the usual primary-contact alarm notification; secondary contacts are notified after the dispatch request. Details are in SimpliSafe’s Duress Alarm guidance.

Can you stop a false alarm from sending police?

If you triggered the alarm accidentally, disarm the system promptly using your keypad or app. SimpliSafe says that when the system is disarmed within moments of the initial alarm signal, the monitoring center treats it as a false alarm and does not request emergency services. If you receive an Alarm Text, use its supported cancellation workflow; SimpliSafe says a contact who cancels by text before the center calls can prevent that call.

Why location and verification requirements matter

Some cities or counties require visual verification before police are requested for a burglary alarm. SimpliSafe says camera video verification can satisfy the requirement in some locations; where an eyewitness is required, a guard service may be available in select markets. Availability and local rules vary, so check the requirements where the system is installed.

SimpliSafe describes Video Verification as optional, off by default, and dependent on a SimpliSafe camera, system, and eligible monitoring plan. Its Video Verification explanation covers its operation; the company’s guard-service information describes select-market availability.

What to check before relying on dispatch

  • Confirm whether your account has professional monitoring that includes the relevant emergency-dispatch service; a siren or hardware purchase alone does not establish that a monitoring center will request dispatch.
  • Review your primary and secondary contact details and learn how your account’s Alarm Text and app cancellation flows work.
  • Check whether the panic button is configured for audible, fire, or medical behavior, and learn the difference between an ordinary alarm and a Duress PIN.
  • Ask your local authority or review local requirements to find out whether burglary alarms need visual verification.
  • Read the current monitoring terms and support instructions for your plan, since workflows and eligibility can change.
