No. An iPod is Apple’s product name, not a generic term for any small music player. Samsung has made its own standalone players—especially the YEPP line and later media players—but Samsung’s currently documented everyday option is playing locally stored music with Samsung Music on a compatible Galaxy device. The available evidence does not establish whether a dedicated Samsung player is still sold in every market.
What “iPod” means in this question
“iPod” refers specifically to Apple’s portable-media product family. Calling a Samsung device an iPod is therefore a brand error, even if both devices can store songs and play them through headphones. Samsung products used names such as YEPP, P3, Q1, Q2 and Galaxy rather than iPod.
Apple announced the end of the iPod touch in 2022, the last remaining iPod model. That decision is one reason people now use “iPod” loosely to mean any pocket music player, but it did not turn the name into a generic category. A Samsung music player is a Samsung device, not an iPod.
Samsung really did make standalone music players
The YEPP line began in the late 1990s
Samsung’s own historical account traces its portable-audio business from the mymy cassette player to YEPP digital audio players. Samsung says YEPP launched in 1998. Its early player measured 58 × 85 × 17 millimetres and held 40 MB—enough, by Samsung’s calculation, for ten songs of four minutes each. Those specifications describe that historical model, not a current product.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The capacity sounds tiny beside modern phones, but it illustrates the design goal of an early flash player: carry a small, selected library without bringing a cassette case or portable CD player. Songs had to be transferred to the device, and storage limits made file selection part of everyday use.
A broader dedicated-player range appeared in the 2000s
Samsung’s 2008 annual report described a full MP3-player lineup. It listed the P3 touchscreen media player, Q1 and Q2 players using Samsung’s DNSe 3.0 sound engine, and the VP1 voice recorder. This is evidence of Samsung’s 2008 range only; it does not establish current inventory, software updates, battery support or repair availability for those models.
The products also show that Samsung’s portable-audio strategy was broader than a simple “iPod equivalent.” Some devices focused on music, while others added video, touch controls or recording. Features, connectors and storage varied by model, so a second-hand listing needs to be checked model by model rather than treated as representative of every YEPP or Samsung player.
Why Samsung’s dedicated players became less visible
Samsung’s retrospective links the decline of standalone MP3 players to smartphones gaining built-in music functions. A phone already carried a screen, storage, processor, wireless connection and a battery; adding a music app was easier for many owners than maintaining a separate player.

Samsung later described a “partner model” for integrating music services into Galaxy devices in its official statement about Milk Music. That statement is historical context, not evidence that Milk Music remains available. It does show the strategic shift: Samsung increasingly treated the phone as the hardware platform and music software or services as the listening experience.
This history explains why a search for a new Samsung-branded iPod substitute may produce old YEPP listings, collector discussions or Galaxy-phone instructions rather than a current worldwide catalog of dedicated players.
Samsung’s current documented way to play stored music
Samsung UK’s support guidance, updated August 14, 2026, documents Samsung Music on Galaxy devices. The app can be downloaded from the Play Store or Galaxy Store, finds music saved on the phone, and provides tools to store and organize that library. Samsung lists MP3, WMA, AAC and FLAC among the supported formats.
That makes a compatible Galaxy phone a practical modern substitute for the basic job many people associate with an iPod: keep audio files on a portable device and play them without carrying a separate music player. It is still a multipurpose phone, not a dedicated iPod-style device. Model, software version, regional settings and file characteristics can affect the experience, so Samsung’s instructions for the exact phone should take priority.

The support page establishes local-file playback. It does not, by itself, promise that every Galaxy model handles every codec identically, that every file will appear automatically, or that any particular subscription service permits offline listening. Treat streaming-service downloads and locally owned files as separate questions.
How to use a Galaxy phone as a portable music player
1. Confirm the device and app
- Check that the phone is a Galaxy device compatible with Samsung Music in your region.
- Open the Play Store or Galaxy Store and search for Samsung Music.
- Install or update the app, then open it and allow the requested access to audio files if Android presents a permission prompt.
2. Put music files on the phone
- Copy legally obtained audio files to the phone’s internal storage or an installed memory card, if that model supports one. A computer-to-phone USB transfer is the most direct method; the exact folder name is less important than placing files in accessible device storage.
- Keep the original file extension and avoid renaming a file in a way that changes its format. Samsung Music’s documented formats include MP3, WMA, AAC and FLAC.
- If a newly copied album does not appear, close and reopen Samsung Music or allow time for Android’s media scan. Check the file in a standard file manager and verify that it is not inside a folder excluded from media scanning.
3. Organize and play the library
- Open Samsung Music and use its library views to browse songs, albums or artists.
- Start playback, then use the queue and repeat or shuffle controls as needed.
- For a phone intended mainly for music, remove unused downloads and background apps, keep sufficient free storage, and enable a screen lock. These are general phone-management measures, not requirements for a particular Samsung player model.
A Galaxy phone can therefore cover the everyday “carry my own music” use case. It also brings phone notifications, calls, cameras and other software, which may be an advantage or a distraction depending on why you wanted a dedicated player.
Dedicated player or Galaxy phone?
The choice depends on the job you want the device to perform. The table separates what is established about Samsung’s historical players from what Samsung currently documents for Galaxy devices.

| Consideration | Historical Samsung YEPP/P-series player | Compatible Galaxy phone with Samsung Music |
|---|---|---|
| Device type | Purpose-built portable audio or media player | Multipurpose smartphone that can play music |
| Music source | Primarily files transferred to the player; model-specific features varied | Music saved on the phone; other sources depend on the app or service used |
| Documented formats | Varied by model; no single format list applies to the entire historical range | Samsung Music lists MP3, WMA, AAC and FLAC |
| Current availability | Current stock, condition and official support were not established | Samsung documents Samsung Music downloads through the Play Store and Galaxy Store |
| Extra functions | Some models added video playback, touch controls or voice recording | Calls, cameras, apps, wireless features and normal smartphone functions |
| Buying risk | Battery wear, missing cables, storage limits and obsolete software can matter | Support and behavior depend on the exact Galaxy model, software and region |
There is no evidence here for declaring one option universally better. A collector may value a YEPP or P3’s dedicated controls and period design, while someone who wants a supported device for local FLAC files may prefer a current Galaxy phone. The right comparison is between a specific used model in a specific condition and a specific Galaxy model, not between the words “iPod” and “Samsung.”

What to check before buying an old Samsung player
Historical devices can be interesting, but availability and reliability are separate from the fact that Samsung once made them. Before paying for a used YEPP, P3, Q1, Q2 or similar player, check:
- Exact model number: Names such as Q1 or YEPP cover multiple variants with different storage, screens and connectors.
- Battery condition: A player that has been unused for years may have sharply reduced battery life or a battery that no longer charges.
- Included accessories: Proprietary USB cables, chargers, docks and earphones may be difficult to replace.
- Storage and transfer method: Confirm whether the player uses built-in memory, a card slot or a particular desktop transfer process.
- File compatibility: Do not assume that a device from one Samsung series supports every format accepted by Samsung Music on a modern phone.
- Firmware and computer support: Older synchronization software may not work with a current operating system, and official updates may no longer be available.
- Return policy and testing: Verify that the screen, buttons, headphone output, charging port and playback controls work before treating the device as dependable.
Current listings, working condition, replacement parts and official support for legacy YEPP and Galaxy Player products were not confirmed. A listing is therefore evidence that one used unit is being offered, not proof of a current Samsung product line.

The available official material establishes Samsung’s historical standalone players and its present support for Samsung Music on Galaxy devices. It does not provide a definitive worldwide statement that no dedicated Samsung player is sold in any market, nor does it identify a currently supported global successor to YEPP. Availability can differ by country, retailer and remaining stock.

The simplest answer for different needs
You want an Apple iPod
Samsung cannot provide one: iPod is Apple’s brand, and Apple ended the iPod touch in 2022.
You want a small device for your own music files
A compatible Galaxy phone running Samsung Music can play music saved on the device. Samsung documents MP3, WMA, AAC and FLAC support, subject to the exact phone and file.
You want a vintage Samsung player
Look for a specific YEPP, P3, Q1, Q2 or related model, then check battery, accessories, transfer requirements and return protection. Historical existence does not guarantee modern availability or support.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →You want a current dedicated Samsung product
Do not assume one exists worldwide. Confirm a current local listing and its support terms; the official material summarized here does not resolve that question globally.
Bottom line
Samsung does not make an iPod, because iPod is Apple’s product name. Samsung did make genuine standalone portable music players, beginning with YEPP in 1998 and expanding to products such as the P3, Q1, Q2 and VP1 in the 2000s. For present-day Samsung users, the clearly documented option is Samsung Music on a compatible Galaxy device for locally stored MP3, WMA, AAC or FLAC files. Whether a dedicated Samsung player remains available in a particular market requires checking that market’s current listings rather than assuming either a worldwide continuation or a worldwide discontinuation.
