There is no official confirmation that progress from the Gendo the Gatherer demo will carry into the full game. As of October 18, 2026, the official Steam listing describes a free PC demo from UnintentionalLogic, released August 21, 2026, while also stating that the full game is not yet available on Steam. Because the commercial release and its save-import system have not been published, a transfer cannot be verified.
The demo does list Steam Cloud support, but that only synchronizes the demo’s files between compatible Steam installations. It does not, by itself, establish that a future full-game build will recognize, convert, or import those saves.
What the official listing confirms
The available information is limited to the demo. Steam identifies Gendo the Gatherer Demo as a free Windows PC demo by UnintentionalLogic, with an August 21, 2026 release date. Its description presents a cozy life-simulation loop built around foraging, cooking, serving townsfolk, customizing a home, and completing quests.

The listing does not say whether a demo save will be accepted by the finished game, whether the process will be automatic, or whether players will have to select a file manually. It also does not identify which items could carry over, whether there is a one-time conversion, or whether the full release will deliberately start everyone from the beginning.

That absence is meaningful rather than a hidden “yes.” Until UnintentionalLogic publishes a full-game page, FAQ, launch announcement, or patch note that describes importing demo progress, the only reliable answer is that carry-over is unknown.
Why Steam Cloud does not prove a transfer
Steam Cloud and cross-version save migration solve different problems.
What Steam Cloud normally does
When a game supports Steam Cloud, Steam can upload files selected by that game’s configuration and download them on another compatible installation using the same Steam account. This is useful for moving a demo save from one computer to another, restoring files after a reinstall, or keeping multiple PCs synchronized.

What a full-game import requires
A finished game must be programmed to find the demo’s data, understand its format, and decide how to translate it into the full game’s systems. The developer may use the same save format, a dedicated conversion routine, a one-time import prompt, or no import mechanism at all. Steam does not automatically create that compatibility layer.
The demo and full game could also have different application identifiers, file locations, progression rules, or release branches. Steam Cloud may keep both products’ files online without merging them. For that reason, the Cloud badge is evidence of synchronization support for the demo, not evidence of a future transfer promise.
What you should do with your demo progress now
You can protect the work you have done without assuming that it will be accepted by the full release.

Exit the demo normally and wait for Steam to show that synchronization has completed before shutting down or switching computers. Interrupting a sync can leave different local and cloud copies.
- Use the same Steam account on every PC. Cloud files are associated with the account that owns the demo. A different account will not be expected to see that data.
- Keep the demo installed if you still need its save. Do not uninstall it merely because the full game has been announced. Removing local files before confirming a cloud copy can make recovery harder.
- Make an independent backup. In Steam, open Library, select the demo, open its Properties, and use the installed-files option to browse local files when available. Save files are not always stored beside the executable; many games use a user profile or saved-games folder. Copy any clearly identified save folder to another drive, but do not alter the originals.
- Record your current state. Note your character or household name, completed quests, inventory, upgrades, home changes, and other milestones. A screenshot or written list will help you determine whether an import worked and gives you a reference if a conversion behaves unexpectedly.
- Avoid deleting or overwriting old saves. If the full game presents a migration prompt, keep the original demo backup until you have confirmed that the resulting full-game save is correct.
These steps preserve options; they do not turn a demo save into a guaranteed full-game save. The game’s developer controls whether the data can be interpreted after launch.

How to check for an import when the full game releases
No launch procedure has been published yet, so the safest approach is to test methodically rather than overwrite your only copy.
- Install the full game through the same Steam account. If the publisher limits migration to Steam, account continuity will matter. A purchase or installation on another platform may use a different save system.
- Finish all pending demo synchronization first. Close the demo and wait for Steam Cloud to report completion. Do not start both products while a conflict dialog is unresolved.
- Launch the full game once and read every prompt. Look for wording such as “Import demo save,” “Continue from demo,” “Transfer progress,” or a file-selection screen. Do not choose a reset or overwrite option until you understand which file it will replace.
- Check the save or profile menu. If there is no startup prompt, inspect the game’s load, profile, or settings screens for an import command. A developer could place migration there instead of in the first-run flow.
- Compare the result with your notes. Verify several independent elements, such as a quest state, inventory item, home customization, and currency. Seeing a familiar character name alone does not prove that every system transferred.
- Keep the backup until testing is complete. Preserve the demo files and your pre-import backup until you have opened the converted save, played far enough to confirm stability, and checked that a new full-game save synchronizes normally.
If the developer publishes a specific procedure, follow that procedure instead of guessing at file copies. Manual replacement can damage a save or cause Steam Cloud to propagate the wrong version.
Transfer policies the developer could choose
The following are possible designs, not announced features. They show why a Steam Cloud listing cannot answer the carry-over question by itself.

Until an official announcement selects one of these approaches, claims that a particular quest, item, upgrade, or house layout will survive are speculation.

Questions a future transfer announcement should answer
A useful policy statement should cover more than a simple “yes” or “no.” Look for answers to each of these points:
- Platform and account: Is migration limited to Steam PC, and must the demo and full game use the same Steam account?
- Timing: Does the import happen on first launch, from a menu, or during a limited launch period?
- Scope: Do inventory, recipes, upgrades, quests, relationships, home customization, cosmetics, and currency all transfer, or only selected categories?
- Progression caps: Does the demo stop at a particular quest, level, day, area, or resource limit, and how is that limit handled in the full game?
- Existing saves: Can an import be added to an existing full-game profile, or only to a new profile?
- Repeatability: Is transfer one-time, can multiple demo saves be imported, and can an import be undone?
- Version requirements: Must the demo be updated to a particular build before its save is eligible?
- Cloud behavior: Should Steam Cloud remain enabled, be temporarily disabled during a manual import, or be allowed to resolve a conflict automatically?
- Failure recovery: What backup or support procedure applies if the conversion produces a missing or corrupted save?
These details determine whether “progress carries over” means a complete continuation or only a small bonus.

Do not immediately delete the demo or replace files. First, make a fresh backup of any local save you can find. Then confirm that you are signed into the Steam account used for the demo, that the demo has completed its last Cloud synchronization, and that the full game is fully updated.

If Steam displays a cloud conflict, preserve both versions if the dialog allows it and choose only after checking their timestamps and contents. Selecting the wrong copy can overwrite the version you intended to keep.

If the official instructions say the save should work and it still does not, document the demo and full-game versions, your Steam account continuity, the exact prompt or error, and whether the demo save still opens in the demo. Those details are more useful to the developer than repeatedly reinstalling both products.
Where to look for a definitive answer
The authoritative answer should come from UnintentionalLogic or an official Steam announcement for the full game. Check the full game’s Steam description, announcements, patch notes, FAQ, and launch-day notices. The wording should identify the transfer method and its limits, not merely repeat that the demo supports Steam Cloud.
Until such documentation appears, treat the demo as a separate playable product whose local and cloud saves are worth preserving but not promised as a starting point for the full game. The full game is not yet available on Steam, so there is currently no release build against which an import can be tested.
