Is the Level Editor in the demo or only the full game?
The editor is available in the free Steam demo. The publisher specifically presents it as a way to turn music into playable levels directly inside that demo, so you do not need to buy the full release to try the creation workflow.
The publisher also says the editor will be included in all versions of the full game. The Steam product description lists 40-plus handcrafted levels for the full game and seven handcrafted levels for the demo; those are the developer’s product descriptors for built-in content, not a limit on the number of community levels you can create.
Availability can still depend on the edition and platform you are using. The documented editor path and sharing instructions are for the Steam release and its demo. The available information does not establish whether every future platform build will expose identical import, export, or community-sharing menus.

How do you open the editor?
- Launch MR. RECORDS.
- On the main menu, look beside the main story option for Level Editor.
- Select Level Editor to open the creation area.
- Choose whether to start a new level or import a level file supplied by another player.
The editor’s placement next to the story option is significant: it is a built-in front-door feature, not a hidden developer tool. If the menu item is missing, first verify that you are running the Steam demo or a full-game version that includes the editor, then restart the game and check the main menu again. The published instructions do not specify a separate download, launch parameter, or account requirement for opening it.
How do you add your own song?
Custom audio is added from inside a level project. The official FAQ describes the following sequence:
- Open the Level Editor and create a new level, or open an imported level.
- Choose Import Music.
- Select the audio file you want to use.
- Set the song’s tempo.
- Set the first beat offset, which aligns the chart’s starting beat with the beginning of the audio.
- Adjust scroll speed to control how quickly the gameplay presentation moves.
- Adjust music volume to set the song’s level in the experience.
- Continue authoring the gameplay and obstacles for the imported track.
These timing controls matter because a song file alone does not define a playable chart. Tempo establishes the beat rate, while the first-beat offset tells the editor where the first charted beat falls in the recording. Scroll speed changes how quickly the pattern is presented to the player without changing the underlying audio. Volume is a separate mix control.
The editor also offers Use Game Music. That option lets you build with the game’s own music instead of importing an external audio file. It is useful when you want to focus on charting and obstacle placement while staying within the included soundtrack.

The published FAQ does not list supported audio extensions, maximum file sizes, sample-rate requirements, copyright checks, or automatic beat detection. Do not assume that an audio file will be accepted merely because it plays on your computer; use the editor’s import command and follow any validation message it displays.
How are gameplay and obstacles created?
MR. RECORDS describes the editor as supporting gameplay generation and obstacle placement. In practical terms, the song supplies the timing context, while you shape the playable sequence around it. A custom level can therefore be an original chart, a remix of an existing idea, or a level assembled from an imported project.
Starting from an empty level
Choose the option to create a new level from scratch. Add music, establish the tempo and first-beat offset, then author the gameplay and obstacle arrangement for that track. This route gives you control over the complete design instead of inheriting another creator’s structure.

If you import a level file, you can use that project as the starting point for a remix. The FAQ confirms that level files can be imported from another player; it does not state that imported projects are locked or read-only. Any edits you make should be treated as a new version when you export it, especially if the original creator expects attribution in the community post.

Keeping timing coherent
When notes or obstacles feel early or late, revisit the tempo and first-beat offset before moving every object individually. A wrong offset shifts the relationship between the music and the whole chart; a wrong tempo causes the drift to increase as the song continues. Scroll speed affects presentation, so change it only when the chart timing is correct but the visual pacing is uncomfortable.
Can you import another player’s level?
Yes. The official FAQ offers two starting paths: Create a new level from scratch or Import from a file. The file-based option is intended for projects shared by other players, allowing you to open a community creation, study its arrangement, and make your own remix.
The documented material does not specify whether imported files contain the audio itself, a reference to an audio file, or both. If a shared project uses music that is not bundled with the level, the recipient may need access to that audio separately; the official instructions do not promise automatic redistribution of every song.

- Finish the music, timing, gameplay, and obstacle arrangement in the Level Editor.
- Open the editor’s Share control.
- Export the level as a ZIP file.
- Post or exchange that ZIP through the official MR. RECORDS Discord community.
- A recipient can use the editor’s Import from a file option to load the shared project.
The ZIP export is a file exchange mechanism, not an in-game matchmaking or browser-based workshop service. The official FAQ and publisher announcement direct players to the MR. RECORDS Discord to find and share creations. They do not describe a built-in public browser, automatic subscriptions, ratings, moderation tools, or one-click downloads from inside the game.

When sharing, include the song title, creator name, tempo, first-beat offset, and any audio-file requirement in your Discord post. Those details are not required by the documented export command, but they help another player understand what the ZIP contains and reproduce the intended setup when the project depends on imported music.

Troubleshooting a custom level
The Level Editor option is missing
- Confirm that you launched the Steam demo or a full-game build that includes the editor.
- Return to the main menu and look beside the story option; that is where the editor is documented.
- Restart the game after an update. The available instructions do not identify a separate editor installation.
The song does not line up with the chart
- Check the tempo first. A wrong tempo produces increasing drift through the song.
- Adjust the first-beat offset to move the chart’s starting alignment.
- Only after timing is aligned, change scroll speed if the visual pace is too fast or slow.
A shared ZIP will not open
- Verify that you are using the editor’s Import from a file route rather than trying to open the ZIP outside the game.
- Ask the creator whether the project requires a separately imported audio file; the published documentation does not confirm that every ZIP embeds custom music.
- Check that the file was exported from the editor’s Share command and was not renamed or partially downloaded.
Another player cannot reproduce the level
Send the ZIP together with the exact song information and timing values. A project that relies on an external audio file may not be self-contained, and the FAQ does not promise automatic transfer of music rights or audio assets through Discord.
