Bitcoin Cities lists Moonflower Coffee in Denver as accepting Bitcoin and Lightning, but the cafe’s own website does not currently confirm that payment policy. The directory’s Colorado snapshot, checked October 13, 2026, lists 293 businesses across 82 cities, including 279 marked as accepting Lightning. That is a dated, community-maintained directory count—not proof that every listing still takes Bitcoin. Confirm payment availability with Moonflower or any merchant before making a trip.
What is known about Moonflower Coffee
Moonflower Coffee is a specialty coffee shop in Denver’s West Colfax neighborhood at 4200 West Colfax Avenue. Its official Visit and Contact pages identify that address. The Visit page highlights matcha drinks, including an award-winning Ube Latte, and says dogs are welcome on the patio.
The cafe’s About page says, “We’re Sam and Jason – the owners, operators, and baristas behind Moonflower Coffee.” It describes a business that began as a coffee cart in 2023. Moonflower says it serves coffee made with beans from Denver’s Servant Coffee, ceremonial-grade matcha from Spirit Tea, pastries from Black Box Bakery in Edgewater, burritos from Onefold, and housemade syrups.
None of those official pages, as reviewed for this article, states that Bitcoin is accepted. The Bitcoin payment claim comes from the Bitcoin Cities directory rather than a direct announcement from Moonflower.
#1 Best Overall
- BITCOIN EXCLUSIVE, PHONE VERIFICATION: Bitkey is designed from the ground up exclusively for bitcoin — a dedicated hardware wallet for secure bitcoin storage. Approve transactions with a tap using your phone and NFC. No device screen is required.
- SELF-CUSTODY, NO EXCHANGE OR CUSTODIAN REQUIRED: You hold two of the three keys in the Bitkey system – one on your phone and one on your Bitkey device. The third is stored on Bitkey’s server and cannot move your bitcoin on its own.
- NO SEED PHRASE: Set up and use Bitkey without creating or storing a seed phrase.
- 2-of-3 MULTISIG: Three keys are stored separately across your phone, Bitkey device, and Bitkey’s server. Any two keys are required to move your bitcoin.
- BUILT-IN RECOVERY: Encrypted backup and recovery tools can help you regain access if you lose your phone or Bitkey device. You can also designate a Recovery Contact.
What the Bitcoin listing actually says
Bitcoin Cities labels Moonflower with both LN and BTC payment indicators. LN refers to the Bitcoin Lightning Network, while BTC is the directory’s Bitcoin payment label. The listing also shows a Lightning payment check-in marked “Verified via OSM.” That is evidence recorded by the directory; it is not the same as a current confirmation from the cafe’s owners or staff.
Bitcoin Cities says its merchant data comes from OpenStreetMap and warns that listing information may be inaccurate. Businesses can be added through OpenStreetMap using the payment:bitcoin=yes tag, so listings depend on community-maintained map data and the directory’s processing. A tag or check-in can remain visible after a business changes its policy, payment device, staff, or operating status.

How to check before you visit
- Contact Moonflower directly. Use the email or text contact method shown on the cafe’s official Contact page and ask whether Bitcoin is accepted today.
- Ask which rail is supported. Confirm whether the cafe accepts Lightning, an on-chain Bitcoin transaction, or both. These methods have different payment times, fees, and wallet requirements.
- Confirm the practical details. Ask whether payment is available for all purchases, whether a minimum applies, and whether staff need the customer to request Bitcoin at the register.
- Check hours separately. Opening times can change and should be confirmed through the official Visit or Contact information before setting out.
- Bring a backup payment method. A directory listing is useful for discovery but is not a guarantee that a terminal, QR code, internet connection, or trained staff member will be available when you arrive.
How many Colorado businesses take Bitcoin?
Bitcoin Cities’ Colorado directory listed 293 businesses across 82 cities on October 13, 2026. Of those, 279 were marked as accepting Lightning. These figures describe what the directory displayed on that date; they are not an audited statewide census and should not be treated as a permanent inventory.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →The headline figure of “300+ Colorado Bitcoin merchants” cannot be independently verified from the current Bitcoin Cities snapshot. The reviewed pages do not identify a source or date that supports a count above 300. It may refer to a different directory, an earlier or later capture, or another counting method, but it should not be presented as a current verified total without that evidence.

Why the Denver number needs caution
The Bitcoin Cities Denver page contains conflicting figures in different parts of the same page, including 33, 24, and 55 businesses. It also warns that its data may be inaccurate. Because those values are not reconciled, there is no clean Denver total to quote from that page. Do not add city figures together or infer that every Denver listing has been checked by the merchant.
For a Colorado-wide search, use the directory as a starting list and evaluate each result by city, business type, stated payment method, date of any verification, and whether a recent payment check-in exists. Even a recent check-in cannot guarantee that acceptance remains active.

What to expect when paying with Bitcoin
Lightning payments
Lightning is designed for quick, low-value Bitcoin payments. You generally scan a Lightning invoice QR code with a compatible wallet, review the amount, and authorize the payment. The invoice normally expires after a period set by the merchant’s payment system. You need wallet funds on the Lightning network, not merely a wallet balance held on-chain.
On-chain Bitcoin payments
An on-chain transaction is sent to a Bitcoin address or QR code and may require confirmation before the merchant treats it as final. Fees and waiting times can vary with network conditions. If Moonflower supports only Lightning, an ordinary on-chain transfer may not be accepted at the counter; ask before paying.

Receipts, refunds, and price changes
Ask how the cafe handles refunds, overpayments, and a failed or expired invoice. Bitcoin’s exchange value can move while an order is being prepared, so the checkout system may generate a time-limited invoice for the dollar price of the purchase. The merchant’s own policy controls whether a refund is made in Bitcoin, dollars, or another form.
Bottom line for Denver visitors
Moonflower Coffee is listed by Bitcoin Cities as a Denver cafe accepting Bitcoin and Lightning at 4200 West Colfax Avenue, with a Lightning check-in marked “Verified via OSM.” Because the cafe’s official pages do not confirm Bitcoin acceptance and the directory cautions that its data may be inaccurate, contact Moonflower before relying on the listing. For Colorado more broadly, the defensible figure is the directory’s dated snapshot of 293 businesses in 82 cities, not an independently verified “300+” total.
