Yes. Modern Warfare 4 is announced with cross-progression across Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Your multiplayer and other supported game progress should follow you when those platforms are connected to the same Activision/Call of Duty account. Nintendo confirmed cross-play and cross-progression on May 28, 2026, and Activision’s account documentation explains that Call of Duty progress is stored on the Activision account rather than on an individual platform account.
The important exception is Call of Duty Points: points remain usable only on the platform where they were purchased, although items bought with those points are shared across linked platforms. Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled to launch on October 23, 2026, and is not announced for PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.
Which platforms are included?
Modern Warfare 4’s announced launch ecosystem contains four platform families: Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PC. Activision lists three PC storefront options: Battle.net, Steam, and Xbox PC. The cross-progression announcement applies to the platforms in that launch ecosystem, provided you use one linked Activision/Call of Duty account.

There is no announced Modern Warfare 4 version for PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. A last-generation console account therefore cannot be treated as an additional supported destination for this release.

What cross-progression means in practice
Cross-progression is different from simply owning the game on more than one device. It means the game can retrieve eligible progress from your Activision/Call of Duty account after you move to another linked platform. Activision describes the account as the location for Modern Warfare progress, while the platform account supplies the console or store identity used to launch the game.
For example, if you begin multiplayer on Switch 2 and later sign in on PlayStation 5 with the same linked Activision account, the supported progression associated with that account is available there. The same principle applies when moving between Xbox Series X|S and PC, or between a console and a PC storefront. The platform change does not create a separate progression profile as long as the account relationship is correct.
Nintendo’s May 28, 2026 announcement specifically says Modern Warfare 4 multiplayer will feature both cross-play and cross-progression. Cross-play concerns playing with people on other platforms; cross-progression concerns the persistence of your own account progress. They are related features, but one does not replace the other.

What should carry over?
Activision’s documented Call of Duty account model identifies several progression categories that carry across linked platforms. These are account progress earned through play, not every transaction made through a console or PC store.

It is not a promise that every individual entitlement, bundle, license, or store transaction behaves identically. Modern Warfare 4-specific documentation may define additional exceptions or details after launch.

Why Call of Duty Points are different
Call of Duty Points are the clearest documented exception to ordinary progression sharing. Points can be spent only on the platform where they were purchased. Buying points on Xbox does not create a spendable balance on PlayStation 5 or Switch 2, even when all of those platforms use the same Activision account.
Items purchased with Call of Duty Points are shared across the linked platforms under Activision’s documented model. In other words, the currency has a platform restriction, while the eligible purchase made with that currency can be available account-wide. Check the platform shown at checkout before buying points, especially if you regularly alternate between a console and PC.

Activision has confirmed the feature but has not yet published a Modern Warfare 4-specific, screen-by-screen account-linking tutorial. The safest preparation is to establish one account identity before you start building progress.
- Identify your Activision/Call of Duty account. Use the account that you intend to keep for the life of the game. Do not create a second account merely because you are installing on another platform.
- Link each platform identity to that account. Your Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, Battle.net, Steam, or Xbox PC sign-in should be connected to the same Activision/Call of Duty account. The exact labels may vary by platform and by the account-management interface available at launch.
- Install the correct edition on the destination platform. Cross-progression does not replace the need to own or access the game on that platform. A progression profile can be valid while the destination platform still requires its own license or installation.
- Sign in before playing. When Modern Warfare 4 starts on the new device, verify that the displayed Activision identity is the one used on your original platform. Stop if the game presents a new or unexpected account.
- Allow synchronization to finish. Complete any first-run connection, update, or profile synchronization process before changing settings, opening rewards, or spending currency.
- Confirm a small piece of progress. Check your player level, weapon progress, Battle Pass state, or completed challenge on the destination platform. This is a practical way to detect an account mismatch before making purchases.
Because an item-by-item Modern Warfare 4 transfer matrix has not been published, retain purchase receipts and note which platform was used for any Call of Duty Points transaction. That information helps distinguish a missing account link from a currency restriction.
Common platform-switch scenarios
Switch 2 to PlayStation 5
This is the move most directly covered by the announced platform set. Start Modern Warfare 4 on Switch 2 with your established Activision account, then use that same account when launching the PlayStation 5 version. Multiplayer level, weapon XP, eligible items, Battle Pass progress, campaign progress, and completed Missions and Challenges are the documented categories to look for after synchronization.

Your Switch 2 purchase does not automatically grant a PlayStation 5 license. Ownership and progression are separate questions: the account can retain progress while the destination console still requires its own edition.

Xbox Series X|S to PC
Xbox players can move to PC through the listed PC options, including Xbox PC, Battle.net, or Steam, but the account used for Call of Duty must remain the same. Xbox Play Anywhere applies to Xbox console and Xbox PC purchases, which can affect how the game license is accessed between those two Xbox environments. It does not turn every purchase on every PC storefront into one universal license.
PC storefront to console
Moving from Battle.net or Steam to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, or Switch 2 requires two checks: the destination version must be owned or otherwise available to you, and the destination sign-in must resolve to the same Activision account. A different PC storefront identity by itself should not be used as a reason to create a second Call of Duty profile.
PlayStation 5 to Switch 2
The reverse direction follows the same account rule. Nintendo has confirmed the Switch 2 release and cross-progression feature, while Activision’s account documentation supplies the cross-platform progression model. If progress appears absent after moving, verify the account link before assuming that Switch 2 has a separate progression system.
Storefront, edition, and physical-copy considerations
Activision confirms physical editions containing the full base game for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S through select retailers. Those editions answer the ownership question for the respective consoles, but they do not change how account progress is stored.

For PC, Activision lists Battle.net, Steam, and Xbox PC. Xbox Play Anywhere covers Xbox console and Xbox PC purchases, so an Xbox buyer should check the purchase channel and entitlement terms before assuming that a Battle.net or Steam copy is included. The cross-progression feature concerns the account’s game progress; storefront entitlements remain governed by the store and edition that you bought.
Nintendo confirms Modern Warfare 4 for Switch 2 and confirms cross-progression, but a specific physical listing or regional retail availability for Switch 2 has not been established here. Availability can therefore vary by country and retailer, and should be checked at the time of purchase.
What is not yet confirmed
- A complete Modern Warfare 4 item matrix: Official material identifies broad progression categories but does not enumerate every weapon blueprint, bundle, operator item, entitlement, or platform promotion.
- Identical treatment for every purchase: Call of Duty Points already have a platform-spending restriction, and other store-bound entitlements may have their own terms.
- A final account-linking walkthrough: Activision has not yet published a Modern Warfare 4-specific tutorial showing every launch-screen and account-management label.
- Last-generation support: PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are not announced platforms for this game.
- Regional physical availability: Confirmed PS5 and Xbox physical editions are described as available through select retailers, not as a universal worldwide stock guarantee.
These limits do not cancel the cross-progression announcement. They define the boundary between the confirmed account-level behavior and details that require the game’s final launch documentation.

1. The new platform shows a fresh profile
Exit without completing additional matches, then inspect which Activision/Call of Duty account is displayed. A newly created or incorrectly linked account is the most likely explanation when level and unlocks are absent. Reconnect the platform identity to the established account using the account controls available at launch.
2. Only Call of Duty Points appear to be missing
Check where the points were purchased. The documented rule allows points to be spent only on their purchase platform, so a missing cross-platform balance can be expected. Look instead for the item bought with those points, which is the part identified as shareable across linked platforms.

3. The game is not recognized on the destination platform
Confirm that you own or have access to the destination edition. Account progression does not substitute for a console or PC store license. On PC, verify whether you are launching through Battle.net, Steam, or Xbox PC and whether your purchase belongs to that storefront.
4. Progress is delayed after the first launch
Finish sign-in and synchronization, install any required update, and restart the game once. Avoid unlinking accounts repeatedly while diagnosing the issue; an unnecessary unlink can make it harder to identify which account contains the original progress.
5. A platform is not supported
Check the announced hardware list. Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled for Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with no announced PS4 or Xbox One release. A last-generation console cannot be used as a confirmed destination under the current platform announcement.
Bottom line for each buying decision
If your priority is keeping multiplayer and campaign progress while changing devices, choose any announced platform that you can access and keep every platform identity linked to the same Activision/Call of Duty account. Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and the listed PC storefronts are part of the announced launch ecosystem. Treat ownership as a separate storefront question, and treat Call of Duty Points as platform-bound spending currency even though eligible items purchased with them can be shared.
With those distinctions in mind, moving from Switch 2 to PS5, Xbox to PC, or PC to a console should not require starting Modern Warfare 4 over, provided the account link is correct and the destination edition is available.
